It's taken a long time, both to acquire and then to install, but we've got there: I now have FM 2019 to discover, while cautiously keeping FM 2012 there to finish current projects. I've also been happily discovering DITA, without using FrameMaker, so I've acquired some new ideas.Simple question: do unstructured FM 2019 .book files support some sort of hierarchy (like a .ditamap) or are they still simply "this book contains these .fm chapters"? Now to carry on learning about FM 2019 – I have the feeling it's going to be quite a jump …
Hi, I am facing the following error while launching Framemaker 2015. Could anyone assist?
FrameMaker 2019 We have our help files translated to several languages. Upon return from the translator, we've noticed that when a search is performed, the output displays the English file name and relative path (which we don't want because it appears in English). We expected the results to display in the language to which it was translated. Is there a setting I need to select in the Publish pod?
Hi. I've set up a runningnhead using the variable Running H/F 2. The heading1 content that appears in the body of the page contains the chapter number and some text. I would like the running head to just include the text of the chapter title and exclude the chapter number. Is there a way I can exclude part of the Heading1 content from the running head? Example:Day 1 - OxfordshireDay 2 - Oxfordshire to BuckinghjamshireI would like to have the running head include just the county names and exclude the 'Day X -' FYI I've been away from unstructured Frame for many years and I'm having to relearn so I'm trying to keep it simple. I haven't used the chapter numbering option as I want to keep the whole of the book in a single file to avoid having to copy formats each time I make a change. I would like to avoid setting up lots of variables. This is using FrameMaker 10.
Hi, all! I've run into a problem I can't seem to solve. It seems to happen when I've inserted a table. Essentially, the paragraph mark closest to the table seems to have its own paragraph style so that, if I click delete or backspace (where the paragraph mark is at the end of the previous paragraph), it changes the entire paragraph to the new style. If I try to change the paragraph back to "Body," nothing happens. This has turned into a problem because I occasionally find that I have a space between a paragraph and a table marker (usually when I'm working with conditional text), and it seems impossible to simply backspace/delete to get rid of that space. It's a littler hard to explain so I've made this video. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a microphone at the moment, so I've tried typing each step within the video. I hope it makes sense. If you need more information from me about the problem, please let me know. Thanks.
Hi,I need to convert FM 7.1 version files to FM 2019 version files.1) I want to know is there any batch process option is available????2) When converting to 2019 version i am getting some error mainly graphic image see the below image for your reference. If any body knows the solution, reply to this message.thanks in advance.
I have a Running H/F 1, 2 and 3 on 3 separate lines in the Page Header. The Running H/F 2 is optional and appears on the second line between 1 and 3. Can I include a Line Return in the Running H/F 2 variable, because if the Running H/F 2 variable is set to OFF in the Page Header then I do not want a line space between Running H/F 1 and 3. I have tried <$attribute[export:doc]> /r, but this didn't work. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks,Tracey
I would expect the MiniTOC links to be active in my PDF, as with the TOC and just about all other placed links. Is anyone else able to produce working MiniTOC hyperlinks in PDF?
So here's a fun one. I was compiling my book and noticed that all my chapter numbers were set to 1. No problem, right? Just reset the numbering for chapter to "continue numbering from previous chapter in book." Well... no so much. I can't update my chapter numbering. It's all grayed out. Volume, page are accessible, but chapter is not.I've verified that I am actually using the <$chapnum> variable (I even re-entered it to be safe). It's on a master page, but that's never been an issue before. My co-writer is working on a different book, and his chapter numbering properties are accessible. I'm not finding an answer in the forums or anywhere else online. Any ideas on how to fix this? Running FrameMaker 2019 - unstructured.
Framemaker 2019 crashes when a document contains TIF images with http references to the Cumulus image database (internal error 150554). It happens during the "Pages are converted" step. The Framemaker displays the images normally. If you use the Distiller, the PDF files are created. But then the transparency is missing in the images. If the images are embedded locally, PDF writing works. All other file formats (PNG, PSD, EPS) also work. Does anyone have an idea?
Publishing a book to Responsive HTML5 is suddenly appending a number string to the end of an image's name for multiple images. For example:An image is placed in a FrameMaker (.fm) document as CreateCustom_03.png.After publication with the Responsive HTML5 option, that same image is now CreateCustom_0300024.png and the link information in its HTML document has been modified accordingly. This presents significant challenges as InstallShield (the program we use to generate a setup file for new versions of our software) doesn't recognize the filename change that has occurred since the last delivery (setup). This happens with multiple images. I get that a single "assets" folder serves as the repository for all images, but duplication is not an issue for an image file whose name is used only once throughout a book.Any advice on this is appreciated.Thanks.
Has anyone ever experienced this? I am using FM2019 (and also FM2017 - the problem is with both) on a Win10 64-bit computer. Yesterday everything was working fine. Today FM simply will not launch. I have no idea what is going on. Either from the desktop shortcut or the start bar - nothing. Any ideas are most appreciated!
Hi, Let me first say how much I welcome the possibility of going away from Word, which has been a nightmare in many occasions. That being said, I wish there was a better way to tell me how to quickly get back to speed in adapting to the new configuration. For instance: How to create a TOC How to duplicate (or close enough) the navigation pane of Word, (Display of headers, or pages) How to transfer the bookmarks (or create new ones if that is needed in Framework) How to update the headers and footers (or create new ones) etc Can someone point me to relevant tutorials? Thanks Serge
With a low knowledge to FrameMaker Dita tables, I have problems saving tables in the format and size I create them. Creating a table - saving and re-open the doc - the table is back to default. How do I save a table?
The Welcome screen is not adapting to a larger screen and is just missing (grayed out) at the bottom and side. I can zoom in and out like normal to view the content, but this makes no changes to the missing areas. Changing the window size also makes no difference. I think this is the same as the feed below but there is no solution.https://community.adobe.com/t5/framemaker/i-just-installed-fm-2017-and-the-lowest-3rd-of-my-welcome-screen-is-always-missing/td-p/8884248?page=1 Does one know why this is happening?
Dear all,My script for document navigation works fine as long as I do not use it via menu. Via menu the main function is not found:Error Message : KLD_E.DocNav is not a function Script, Line# : C:\Users\klaus\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\15\startup\ETBdocNav.jsx, 85I can not find, why the function is not defined. I have changed the location of it withing the script (before the menu set-up, after it) - to no positive effect.Any ideas?KLD_E.DocNavMenu = function (){ // === Create menu entry ================ var menuLocation, oCmd = {}; // ---------------- Menu and Command definition for documents ------- menuLocation = app.GetNamedMenu("ViewMenu"); oCmd.MenuDnav = menuLocation.DefineAndAddCommand (1,"ETBdocNav", localize (KLD_E.sDnav_title), "\\!qdn"); oCmd.MenuDnav.KeyboardShortcutLabel = "ESC q d n"; UpdateMenus(); } // --- end KLD_E.DocNavMenu function Command(cmd) { // ============================================== switch(cmd) { // Respo
Hi All,I have a client with a series of DITA concepts that are really chapters containing a bunch of nested concepts. For example, one file is a concept with 70 nested concepts. They want to split each chapter into topics and create ditamaps and maintain all cross-references, etc. It is not really a project that I want to tackle right now. It seems that an XSLT solution would be the best. If anyone has a good algorithm for this or would be interested in taking on this project, please let me know. Thank you very much.Rick
Hi,I am using FrameMaker 2017 with FDK 2017. I was wondering about the following compatibility questions: Can I use Visual Studio 2013 Express for the development? It seems Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) are required for some elements. Since MFC is only part of the non-express version, no development seems possible. Any advice on that? Can I use newer Visual Studio versions than 2013 with the required platform toolset (v120)? How about the MFC in such a case? For future versions of FrameMaker, which might not use the v120 anymore, the purchasing of a new Visual Studio will be required to maintain the plugins. Correct?Thank you.

FrameMaker 2019 15.0.5. I am trying to create a PDF using ExtendScript. Here is my code. I am not getting a PDF and FrameMaker beeps at me when I click in the book window like a dialog box is open somewhere. I am not sure if this is right, but I want to avoid using Publish if I can. Thanks. function saveBookAsPdf (book, name) { var params, returnParams, i; params = GetSaveDefaultParams(); returnParams = new PropVals(); i = GetPropIndex (params, Constants.FS_FileType); params[i].propVal.ival = Constants.FV_SaveFmtPdf; i = GetPropIndex (params, Constants.FS_PDFUseDistiller); params[i].propVal.ival = 0; book.Save (name, params, returnParams); }-Rick
I am outputting Framemaker files to PDF and need 508 Compliance. How do you specify in FM 2019 that an image is decorative / an artifact and does not need alternative text?
I am working in Structured FrameMaker 11, version 11.0/0/380 in a Windows 10 environment.I’m encountering a font issue involving the following Avenir fonts:AvenirLTStd Medium.otf (Avenir LT Sid 65 Medium)AvenirLTStd MediumOblique.otf (Avenir LT Sid 65 Medium+Italic)In the FrameMaker paragraph designer, when I select the Avenir 65 Medium font, the only available choice that I had under 'Weight' was 'Bold'. The choice of ‘SemiBold’ was not available. I was not able to apply the ‘Bold’ and ‘Bold Oblique’ versions of the Avenir 65 Medium font.I downloaded a free version of the following fonts and installed them:AvenirLTStd Medium.otfAvenirLTStd MediumOblique.otfThis resolved the font issue. Both the ‘SemiBold’ and the ‘Bold’ weights are displaying in the paragraph designer, and I now can apply the SemiBold and Bold version of the fonts. We did not experience any font issues with other Adobe products when we were using the original set of Avenir fonts. This font issue appears to have only oc
I see that there's a new update for Frame, but I can't seem to find what the "most current" version number is. Yes, I can click Help>Updates to see if I'm current. However, I have a machine that's been offline/not connected to the internet for a month or two and when I checked it just now, it reports that it's updated, even though there was a release in the meantime. Are version numbers posted somewhere? Has my Google-Fu failed me?
Hi All,I have a Simple Chapter with Mini Table-of-Content with Heading 2 & Heading 3. See image below:How can I format Mini TOC, so my Mini TOC would look like as follows (including Text Section, Indentation, Leader Line and Page Number), just like the real TOC:Section 3.1 XXX.....................................................Page # Section 3.1.1 AAA........................................Page # Section 3.1.2 BBB........................................Page #Section 3.2 YYY.....................................................Page # Section 3.2.1 CCC........................................Page # Section 3.2.2 DDD........................................Page #Section 3.3 ZZZ.....................................................Page # Section 3.3.1 EEE........................................Page # &
Dear all,Yes, this is a special footnote, as it contains an anchored from "at insertion point" which exends beyond the top of the line:To the left you see the English document, to the right a German one. I have checked for 'same setting' for ¶ format, flow format, etc. Only the language setting is different. I do not see what can cause this overflow indication. BTW it does not disappear with MIF washing. It also does not depend on what follows nex in the flow (heading, body etc.).Any ideas?I can live with this, as in pdf it does not appear - and nothing actually is missing on the page. I'm just curious what is going on here. This is in FM 15.0.5.838
