FrameMaker

Hi All,I have a client with a series of DITA concepts that are really chapters containing a bunch of nested concepts. For example, one file is a concept with 70 nested concepts. They want to split each chapter into topics and create ditamaps and maintain all cross-references, etc. It is not really a project that I want to tackle right now. It seems that an XSLT solution would be the best. If anyone has a good algorithm for this or would be interested in taking on this project, please let me know. Thank you very much.Rick

Hi,I am using FrameMaker 2017 with FDK 2017. I was wondering about the following compatibility questions: Can I use Visual Studio 2013 Express for the development? It seems Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) are required for some elements. Since MFC is only part of the non-express version, no development seems possible. Any advice on that?Can I use newer Visual Studio versions than 2013 with the required platform toolset (v120)? How about the MFC in such a case?For future versions of FrameMaker, which might not use the v120 anymore, the purchasing of a new Visual Studio will be required to maintain the plugins. FrameMaker 2019 15.0.5. I am trying to create a PDF using ExtendScript. Here is my code. I am not getting a PDF and FrameMaker beeps at me when I click in the book window like a dialog box is open somewhere. I am not sure if this is right, but I want to avoid using Publish if I can. I am outputting Framemaker files to PDF and need 508 Compliance.  How do you specify in FM 2019 that an image is decorative / an artifact and does not need alternative text?

I am working in Structured FrameMaker 11, version 11.0/0/380 in a Windows 10 environment.I’m encountering a font issue involving the following Avenir fonts:AvenirLTStd Medium.otf (Avenir LT Sid 65 Medium)AvenirLTStd MediumOblique.otf (Avenir LT Sid 65 Medium+Italic)In the FrameMaker paragraph designer, when I select the Avenir 65 Medium font, the only available choice that I had under 'Weight' was 'Bold'. The choice of ‘SemiBold’ was not available. I was not able to apply the ‘Bold’ and ‘Bold Oblique’ versions of the Avenir 65 Medium font.I downloaded a free version of the following fonts and installed them:AvenirLTStd Medium.otfAvenirLTStd MediumOblique.otfThis resolved the font issue. I see that there's a new update for Frame, but I can't seem to find what the "most current" version number is. Yes, I can click Help>Updates to see if I'm current. However, I have a machine that's been offline/not connected to the internet for a month or two and when I checked it just now, it reports that it's updated, even though there was a release in the meantime. Are version numbers posted somewhere? Has my Google-Fu failed me?

Dear all,Yes, this is a special footnote, as it contains an anchored from "at insertion point" which exends beyond the top of the line:To the left you see the English document, to the right a German one. I have checked for 'same setting' for ¶ format, flow format, etc. Only the language setting is different. I do not see what can cause this overflow indication. BTW it does not disappear with MIF washing.It also does not depend on what follows nex in the flow (heading, body etc.).Any ideas?I can live with this, as in pdf it does not appear - and nothing actually is missing on the page. I'm just curious what is going on here.This is in FM 15.0.5.838

I am printing a book to PDF, and I keep seeing extra pages.I have changed the pagination setting for Before Saving & Printing to "Delete Empty Pages", but when I click Update Book, FrameMaker changes the pagination for two chapters (of 11) back to "Make Page Count Even".Does anyone know why it is doing that? And how I can stop it?

Hi, I can't get crop marks in my PDF from FrameMaker 2019 all patched up (Windows 10). I believe I have tried 99.99% of all permutations of the settings in the Marks and Bleeds tab of the Publish Pod. My document is 5.5 x 8.5 inches. I can get FrameMaker to leave room for crop marks, but can't get the marks themselves. The online help is bloody useless (Adobe, call me). Anyway, can anybody give me steps that would at least let me see crop marks in my PDF, including settings for the Marks and Bleeds tab?  Cheers, Sean

I am trying to create a template for a Table of Contents, List of Figures, and List of Tables. I am able to generate the layout that I want for all of these however, I am not able to figure out how to save it so that there is a title at the top of the first page (not in the header) that corresponds with each section. Table of ContentsList of FiguresList of TablesI have been adding these in after the TOC, LOF, and LOT are created but if I update them these titles are removed. In the FM font menu, the Avenir fonts list like this:Avenir LT Std 35 LightAvenir LT Std 45 BookAvenir LT Std 55 RomanAvenir LT Std 65 MediumAs I understand it, the Avenir 95 Black font is the equivalent of the Avenir Medium when bolded. The Avenir 95 Black Italics is the equivalent of Avenir Medium when bolded and italicized.In the paragraph designer, when I select the Avenir 65 Medium font, the only available choice that I have under 'Weight' is 'Bold'. When I select 'Bold' and click the Apply button, the bold weight (Avenir 95 Black font) is not being applied. I can't apply the bold-italicized version either (Avenir 95 Black Italics).It was suggested that I check the Weightings list in the maker.ini file

I output HTML 5 of a product guide in 16 languages. I use a separate .book file and .sts file for each language. Each book file has a dozen .fm files; each .fm file is a chapter in the guide. I recently updated to FM 2019 (update 4) and the following issues occurred: FM seems to '"remember" some content from the previous book I output and includes it in the book I'm currently outputting. For example, I open the German book, output the HTML 5, and close the book. Next,  I open the Spanish book and output the HTML 5. A chapter in the Spanish HTML 5 output is in German. The errant content is the entire content of one FM file.  One .png file is converted to a black box. The rest of the .png files are fine. I closed and re-opened FM and at first it seemed to fix the former problem, so I just closed and re-opened FM between languages. But now when I try to generate HTML 5 output, FM consistently crashes, so now I can't generate it at all. I've also tried rebooti

FrameMaker 2015 cannot find the Acrobat printer.Every time that I try to save an FM document as a pdf, I get the error message in the heading above.I have Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, version 2018.011.20038. (Installed 2/25/18.)And for FM, I have version 13.0.2.433. (Installed 10/5/2017.)This was working in January. I don't know why after a couple months of not using FM, this would happen.I know that in some instances the order of installation matters.

Scenario: about 80% of the occurrences of a variable need to be updated, though I haven't yet decided whether text or a second variable is the more appropriate. Challenge: finding occurrences!I've checked my trusty FM 7.0 User Guide, which says under About searching "You can search for any of the following items: […] Variables – that's it. I've also tried a web search, which included forum postings. I think I may end up taking my own advice and apply a colour to the variable in question so I can search by eye: but it would be interesting to hear of a more efficient way of running this sort of search.

I'm attempting to apply custom styles to DITA structured content. The product help leads me to the Customize DITA Plugin: https://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/dita/index.html#t=book%2FCustomiseDita.html When I follow steps 1 and 2 above, I do see the plugin tool, but the look is completely different, see image below. What am I missing here?

We have a requirement where we need to convert fm files to pdf programatically. We have explored options of DZbatcher and others but wanted to know if there is any possibility to achieve that without any third party tools. Can we make a exe utilizing FDK or something similar. If yes, would like to know options on how to start with. Also, is it enough to have a single user license for the framemaker to achieve this. In our requirements, user would request for PDF using another system and so it will be always a single system who uses framemaker.

Does anybody know when is FrameMaker S1000D package getting updated to Version 4.1?

Hi All, We are working with an FM2019 document (~346 pages) that has a TOC and an index. We want to generate PDF and HTML5 outputs for this document. In the PDF output, the index is complete and lists around 200 entries, ending with the letter 'W.'  However, while creating an HTML5 output with Azure Blue theme, we get only around 70 index entries, ending only with the letter 'E.' Any idea, why the index is limited for HTML5?  Thanks in advance for your help.Regards,Apurva

In my xml file with dita topic, I have defined the width of my tables as a set of colwidth arguments, such as colwidth="30*", colwidth="15*", colwidth="55*". Each corresponds to one column where the sum is 100*. The problem is that the table expands always to the full width of the text frame, violating the border line, I have defined in the chapter output template. See the attached image where the left side of the table must start at the same column as the line above i.e. Following warning ....

I'm using Frame 2015, FYI. I have set up my file to have page number headers that alternate left and right at the top of the page, with the first page in the section having a page number centered and in the footer.When I print my file to PDF, several of the page number styles change, to where a normal page (not first page in section) has the number in the footer, and the first page has the number in the header. So basically, for some reason the PDF is outputting the wrong styles. Also, after I print to PDF, the actual Framemaker file contains the wrong page number styles, as well.I totally realize this may be a tough-to-follow post, but any clarity on this and hopefully a fix is appreciated!-Andy
