FrameMaker

Just transitioned from Framemaker 2015 to Framemaker 2019. For the last 13 years we've used the third-party Freewheel app with Framemaker to fast-scroll x number of lines on a page using the mouse wheel. This has worked using multiple different brands of mouse across every version of Framemaker since 2007. But it longer seems to work in Framemaker 2019, which makes me wonder why Adobe doesn't provide built-in support for this feature. Does anyone know if there's a way to restore the  functionality I describe, either inately or via some kind of adjunct script/application? Thanks!JMW

When I output a FrameMaker book to PDF, links from the generated Table of Contents to pages in the manual are inconsistent. On some TOC items, the entire line (paragraph number, paragraph title, and page number) is a 'clickable' link, but on some random lines -- such as paragraph 4.40 in the example screen capture below -- only the paragraph number is a clickable link. Paragraph 4.40 is formated no differently than 4.39, 4.41, 4.42, etc.; so I can't see any reason why the rest of the line isn't part of the link. Is this a FrameMaker bug, an Acrobat bug, or is there some way to fix this other than manually extending the link across the entire line each time in Acrobat? I'm using unstructured FrameMaker 2019 and Acrobat Distiller DC. 

I would like to use generic expressions in href file paths. For example in the following example: <mapref href="source_files_english.ditamap"/>, instead of "english", I would like to have something like <mapref href="source_files_"language".ditamap"/>. Then, i would like to define the word language as a key. So basically, what I have in mind is to use something like a keyref inside the href filepath. I tried: <mapref href="source_files_<keyword keyref="language"/>.ditamap"/>. Of course it did not work. Is there a way to achieve this in dita/xml?

Hi, I am facing a challenge to change the font properties within DITA. I know that it cannot be done directly in dita topic xml files. So, I decided to add some entities to paragraph (p) in ..\xml\DITA_1.3\app\technicalContent\edd\topic.edd.fm. I noticed this maybe done via ..\xml\DITA_1.3\app\base\edd\commonElements.eddmod.fm and ..\xml\DITA_1.3\app\base\edd\highlightDomain.eddmod.fm. After adding one entitity in the latter files, I attemted to update the former, i.e. topic.edd.fm in order to import the changes. However, those text insets under paragraph element were not updated and so my new entity was not imported. Am I missing sth here? Hadi

In the structapps.fm file, there is a $STRUCTDIR variable that maps the Structure folder. Is there a variable that will map to the user's folder? Thank you.

I just created a post with titel "Strange behaviour of ESTK in Windows 10 - and forgot to tag it with Scripting.Hence i opene it again for editing and added that tag by slecting Scripting and re-posted.This thingy does not appear in the forum. Kruzitürken!

In FM 11 shift + enter at each line generated pretty codeblock in my html web page. Using HTML5 via FrameMaker 2017 (structured) > Publish +1k Topics > HTML 5 -  the pretty print on my codeblock element breaks, shows as one continuous line (image a). When I compile only one topic, the same topic, or a handful of topics (6 topics) that contain the codeblock element in a separate ditamap, the codeblock is well formed (image e). FrameMaker topics and user guide retains and shows the codeblock in pretty print (image f). I have one topic that contains several distinct chunks of code, oddly, one of the chunks is well formed (image c) but the other two break in the same topic. To quick fix the scrolling I added whitespace to the css (image d).   I checked the r/w rules per another post which is fine, checked document... removed quotes and extra spaces at the dita template level; added shift+enter again just for grins. I switched browsers... revised .css  and none of these

Hello,   It's really sad this is such a simple thing, yet FM is being difficult with this. I have a DITA based map file that links to multiple XMLs and sub-XMLs linked in a hierarchical way. Then a pdf is published, it *always* page breaks (i.e. start on new page) for every single file. I want all to be continuous. I have files with just a few lines, that it looks really bad to page break and next subsection starts on a new page... Really? There is NO way to make the PDF publish continually? I do not want to keep a "merged" file as suggested in another post. The congregated xml will be way too big. Please help

For some reason, my output won't generate now. Get an error for which a Google search yields no result. Any ideas? I didn't change anything in the settings file. I opened it and re-did a save and close. No help. I'm trying to open an xml file in which I define a docbook namespace but FrameMaker considers the xmlns token as an attribute. I'm using FrameMaker 2017. I'm working on a document that requires uppercase alpha numbering for subheads (not our typical standard, but a customer requirement for this specific project). As it happens, there are more than 26 headings at this level, which gets me to double-letter "numbers." I have learned (because this is the first time it's come up in my 25 years of FrameMaker use!) that FM's default scheme is AA, AB, AC, etc., but my customer requires AA, BB, CC.... Is there a setting somewhere that I can toggle to get what I need, or will I have to resort to a Brute Force and Ignorance™ method involving separate counters and forced values?   Help me Obi Wan Community: You're my only hope!   PS: Yes, I know this is an ugly and unwieldy way to number headings, but it's a hard customer requirement; "Don't do that!" isn't an option.

Hello fellows, Is it possible to programmatically change the path of an Excel sheet linked into a Framemaker file? AFAIK, the path of text insets can be modified using ES, but I couldn't find info on how to do that on OLE objects like Excel. How Adobe could omit this capability? My Excel files sit on a network drive. The problem is that while the path was accessible on Win7 using a WINS query, on Win10 the path cannot be accessed as the OS uses DNS and not WINS. So I need to change the path of dozens of Excel files to allow opening of FM files.  TIA,Roman

I want to create a paragraph tag with a colored background. Black background  - white text. There is a font option allowing me to set a colored  background, and I can set a stroke above and below the text. But it seems I cannot totally avoid having a single, thin white line below the text. Working in FM 2019. Is it really not possible to have colored background and extend the background color above and below the text?

I am actually looking to modify a set of open FM files,. However, my script works fine only for the active document. I am unable to apply my script to other open documents. So, how to activate a document in extendscript? Please help me. 

I'm trying to set up a TOC with working links. I've created the TOC from scratch several times and the links work. But when I update the book, all the links stop working. I'm using unstructured Frame 11 and have several chapters with text insets. I've tried this with 3 different books. Everything is working correctly until I update the book. When I first create the TOC, the formatting is all messed up, so I apply the correct formatting and there are several blank pages. I update the book to fix the page numbering and blanks, and then none of the links work.

I've downloaded and installed the FrameMaker 2019 package intended for a German operating system.Although most of the menus in FrameMaker are disaplyed in German (as they should), there are some that are displayed in English.For example:- Dropdown menu "XML/Structured"- PODs overview menu     Where is the menu language read from?Why are some menus displayed in English?Is there a setting that can be configured to get all menus in FrameMaker reliably in German?   I'm using Windows 10 Pro with regional settings German (Germany).A co-worker observed a similar problem with his FrameMaker installation: The PODs menu changed the language from German to English after having installed a FrameMaker add-on, although the add-on didn't bring any POD menu and didn't explicitly change any language settings in FrameMaker (it actually also used German in all menus). So, it looks like something is messing with the menu language settings in FrameMaker.

Hello I have a requirement to convert a word document with several hundreds of tables to Framemaker. Q1 - Which is the easiest way to do it? I have imported the word document and manually doing the formatting. I have defined some styles that I am able to use. But its still a manual process.. Also I realise that while I am able to save the font and margin information of a table in the style, I am unable to save the column width. So, even after assigning the style, I have to manually adjust the column length.   I see that there is a possibility of writing a script. Q2 - Is this achievable in a script?   Q3 - Is there an upper limit on the number of pages in a pdf file or the size? Some pdfs might even be 4000+ pages.. with a size of 30MB or even more..   Thanks Meera
