FrameMaker

Hi,I cannot get FrameMaker to use customized templates while creating fm components from a ditabookmap. For instance, the booktitle still shows the adobe logo, although I have created a customized template and have replaced the native FrameMaker template via File->Publish -> DITA template list. It simply uses the default template from FrameMaker installation path, which I would like to avoid manipulating. I use FrameMaker 2019.Thanks!Hadi

Hello, I'm trying to explore the sample files and opened the user guide sample and when opening the "general description" page 2 I get this error (screenshot attached) and then the program crashes. If I scroll down to page 2 of "general description" it also crashes, however if I skip it and type in to go directly to page 3, than it works fine but if I scroll up to page 2 it crashes again. I am very new to Framemaker so sorry if this is a dumb question. Thanks for any help!

It is my understanding that if you own a perpetual license of FrameMaker (CLP) it will no longer be supported. It will be required going forward to purchase the annual subscription based license (VIP) to have the FrameMaker support. Is this incorrect? If so, wonderful and I need to pay my annual support renewal for FrameMaker.

Hi everybody, this is my first posting.I have switched from FM11 to FM2019 hoping that my DITA files would open more quickly. Alas, for files with key or conkey references, the opposite is true. It takes 3 to 4 times longer to open such files with FM2019. Is anybody else having this issue?My environment:Esprimo P400Intel Core i5-2310 CPU2.90 GHz16 GB RAMSSD hard disk (all DITA files are on that disk, nothing is on network drives)Windows 10 (64 Bit)FrameMaker V15.0.4.751 (64 bit)DITA-FMx plug-in (the file opening times are the same with the built-in DITA 1.2 structapps, but the plug-in enables key references to key definitions with text strings, such as keywords, to be resolved -- among other things).

Hi! I am trying to publish ditamap as html file, however, it always fails. The publishing log says at the bottom that "Unable to publish. Validate xml source files and retry." How do I do that? I am new to this and I know my predecessor used Framemaker 2015 to work with the same files. Does that create a problem? I have gone through the whole ditamap and saved all the files with Framemaker 2019, but that didn't help. I have applied "Structure > Validate > Entire document > Start validating" for each file. Didn't help. Or then I'm doing something wrong with these procedures.   What should I do/try next?   Thank you for any help or tips!

Hello. We have strange problem when importing PDF to structured FM files. This applies to FM2019. In FM12 it works normally.Attached is gen0-2_2019.fm file (I cannot attach it here. it says vnd.framemaker extension doesn't match or whatever...). Link is here: GEN 0.2 FM documentWhen we import PDF after table it will not show imported PDF. See this: When I insert Chart element (which is pgf container). The imported PDF looks normally. See this:For some documents even creating Chart element doesn't help and PDF is displayed like this small square. If I delete the table in gen0-2 document I can insert PDF without Chart element. It is not important what PDF contains. It happens with every PDF.What is funny that when I save FM document with PDF to MIF the link is there looking PDF was succesfully imported. What can this be for a problem?Thanks. 

While generating pdf, FM shuts down without giving any error. Can you please help here?

Hi, I'm using this thread since I've similar problem to solve. I'm new to DITA and piloting some documents in FrameMaker 2019, trying to get the output that I need. I have created a ditamap with a structure as follows: Ditamap title (BOOKTITLE MAINBOOKTITLE) Chapter 1 (topicref) Chapter 2 (topicref) Chapter 3(topicref) Chapter 4(topicref) Chapter 5(topicref) Each of the above chapters (topics) has few more topics embedded which I use for sub-sections of the main chapter for example: In the dita xml structure I have to have a lot of tables, diagrams and many other sub-titles with their contents. After generating an output PDF book I need to move some title in the next page or next column, depends on the situation. I’m trying to implement a „pagebreak” function in my topic.template and edited the topic.eddmod.fm file to include text format rules just like it’s suggested in few comments above from Michael_Müller-Hillebrand. Hi everyone,   This is a question with its own answer. 🙂  If you are producing large PDF documents and you mark revised content with change bars, the following utility can make it easier to review the changes:   https://github.com/chrispy-snps/pdf-annotate-change-bars   The PDF can be created by any tool, not just FrameMaker. The requirements are that the background color around the change bars be a solid color, and that no other obstructions (headers/footers) intersect where a change bar could be.     Hopefully someone finds this useful!   - Chris

Hi there   I have TCS 2019 installed and working flawlessly generating pdf output from FM. Now my goal is to generate both pdf and html outputs from a book written in FM, but I 'm unable to find any specific resources on the Internet that explains in detail the process of linking the source of FM to a Robohelp project, and the basic transformations to fit the content written in FM to this new kind of output.   Could you recommend me any book, web, blog or something that explains it step by step?   Best regards

I am a brand new Adobe FM user and I'm using the 2019 version. I know there is a way to preview all pages of a document so that I can adjust page breaks to remove white space as needed. How do I accomplish this in Adobe FM 2019? Thanks in advance,Crystalynn

Hello,When I publish a book using FrameMaker 2019 Publish PDF, my font in FrameMaker (Open Sans SemiBold) appears as Open Sans Light in the PDF and I am getting some unwanted accents on the characters in the PDF. When I switch the font back to Open Sans SemiBold in the PDF, it appears correctly. I have gone to the PDF printer on my laptop and set it to embed this font but it doesn't seem to make a difference, and I am not sure if that would have any impact on the publish engine. This seems to happen whether I Publish to PDF or Save as PDF.Thanks!Christy.

There is a way to automatically alternate the shading body rows in a FrameMaker table, but I have not been able to recall or recreate it. With all body rows selected, I have set the following for Body: First: 1, Dk Grey, Fill: 10% Next: 1, White, Fill: None When I click Apply, all rows remain unshaded. What am I forgetting? (Version 2019 / 15.0.3.603)

Hey gang,I've got a multi-file book in FM 11 that requires that page, paragraph, figure and table numbers be sequential (3.1-1, 3.1-2, etc.) across files.  The page and paragraph number issues were fairly simple: Format > Document > Numbering, continue numbering from previous chapter, update the book and Bob's your uncle.  Now, the relevant paragraph numbering is as follows:H:<$chapnum>.<n+>.< =0>< =0>\tThe figure and table numbers are tougher; using the following formatH:Table (or Figure) <$chapnum>.<n>< >< >-<n+>\tI can get the paragraph numbers to work out, but the individual figure/table numbers restart at 1 in each file.  The issue is that there's nothing telling FM to continue numbering the tables or figures from the previous file in the book, but I can't figure out how to do it.  Any ideas?Regards,-terry-

Does embedding video in pdf work in FrameMaker 2019 Rel. 15.0.4.751?I have been trying with numerous different mp4 files, and I can make the pdf show a videoicon, and have it activate "finger above icon", but I can not make it play videos from the pdf. I can see that there has been another unresolved question on this forum before, but that was a former version of FrameMaker.Would anybody have tried making it work in this version (15.0.4.751)? Best regardsBjørn

I am a user of FrameMaker for decades and now the 2019 version. Here are elements that are missing from FrameMaker 2019 and do exist in MS word:Bibliography- How can one write a book without a Bibliography option? This is no less that a disgrace for marketing and engineering that requires manual generation of a proper Bibliography. Before Adobe gloats on speed lets have the basics! It does exist in the inferior word!!The Equation and MathMl editors are not readable on a 4K screen. Too small frame and not scalable. On the MS word the WIRIS equation editor is scalable (looks like Adobe knows  more about vector graphics than MS) and looks great on a 4K screen at any scale. The integration with framemaker is a disgrace for a company like Adobe where technical writing is missing now Bibliography and Math tools.I am expecting an answer on your immediate plans to address this issues that affect Adobe business.

I'm sure this is probably answered here somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it.  How is the compatiblity between FM 11 and FM 2019?  Any issues to be aware of?   We are looking at upgrading soon, so any help you can provide is appreciated.

Hi allWe have an issue with File Info... fields in FrameMaker 11 being automatically filled with unwanted text, even after we have deleted it.The Subject and Keywords fields contain text that we want to remove from all the files in a book.  We open each file and remove the text, save the files, and close the book.  When we reopen the book, all the files have the unwanted text back again in the Subject and Keywords fields.Ideally, we would like to remove the unwanted text completely from the files (a reference to part number of a piece of equipment).  However, we cannot find where the text is stored.  It does not appear in the Variables list, but must have been manually added by a previous writer because it's a specific company part number.Does anyone know where the text is stored?  How to remove the text from the File Info fields without it returning?Thanks for the help!Emma

Hello, either I am not getting the FrameMaker to work or it fails miserably once it comes to hierarchical authoring. I hope it's my mistake though.I have created a warehouse topic (wt.xml), using a DITA topic file. Inside the warehouse topic, I have created multiple topics, of course the topics are nested, I have also created audiences for each topic: some are chap1 and some are marked chap2. Next, I have created two simple ditamaps. In both ditamaps, I insert a topicref to the warehouse topic. Consequently, they look identical so far. Last,  I have created two ditaval files: chapter1.ditaval and chapter2.ditaval. In the former, I include audiences with value chap1 and in the latter audiences with value chap2. Then, "as instructed by FrameMaker", I save Ditamap as Composite Document and activate Prompt For DitaVal File. It prompts for the ditaval file, I click coose. Now, I expect that in ditamap1, I see the topics, I have marked with chap1 and for ditamap2 the ones I ha

Is there a way to get a list of the current structured application names currently in memory with ExtendScript? I didn't find a similar property in the FDK docs and wonder if this list is exposed to ExtendScript. Thanks.

I've never embedded videos in my pdfs before, but would like to do so.But... I'm at a loss.I used File > Import > File, and selected an mp4 (the SpaceTravel.mp4 included with Framemaker).It appears like this:The examples on-line all show that the image frame should have the filmstrip graphic, but it doesn't.If I doubleclick the object, it opens and plays.If I generate the pdf (with Preferences>Global>General set to embed Adobe Flash files, 3-D objects, and multimedia objects), the pdf shows:(the faded bar was me clicking the object on the pdf -- it's just the image of the filmstrip, nothing else)Is there something else I'm supposed to do?(And does my graphics card (ooold) have anything to do with the problem?)Thanks.(I have weekend-brain, so am sure I'm probably missing something obvious :-))

Hello anybody, I am desparate!   My FrameMaker will not open and the following Error Message appears:   "This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.     I have tried everything and this is till popping up. Does anybody know what this means and how to fix it?   Thank you!   David
