FrameMaker

I am a user of FrameMaker for decades and now the 2019 version. Here are elements that are missing from FrameMaker 2019 and do exist in MS word:Bibliography- How can one write a book without a Bibliography option? This is no less that a disgrace for marketing and engineering that requires manual generation of a proper Bibliography. Before Adobe gloats on speed lets have the basics! It does exist in the inferior word!!The Equation and MathMl editors are not readable on a 4K screen. Too small frame and not scalable. On the MS word the WIRIS equation editor is scalable (looks like Adobe knows  more about vector graphics than MS) and looks great on a 4K screen at any scale. The integration with framemaker is a disgrace for a company like Adobe where technical writing is missing now Bibliography and Math tools.I am expecting an answer on your immediate plans to address this issues that affect Adobe business.

I'm sure this is probably answered here somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it.  How is the compatiblity between FM 11 and FM 2019?  Any issues to be aware of?   We are looking at upgrading soon, so any help you can provide is appreciated.

Hi allWe have an issue with File Info... fields in FrameMaker 11 being automatically filled with unwanted text, even after we have deleted it.The Subject and Keywords fields contain text that we want to remove from all the files in a book.  We open each file and remove the text, save the files, and close the book.  When we reopen the book, all the files have the unwanted text back again in the Subject and Keywords fields.Ideally, we would like to remove the unwanted text completely from the files (a reference to part number of a piece of equipment).  However, we cannot find where the text is stored.  It does not appear in the Variables list, but must have been manually added by a previous writer because it's a specific company part number.Does anyone know where the text is stored?  How to remove the text from the File Info fields without it returning?Thanks for the help!Emma

Is there a way to change the title block to the name of the document vs. showing "Responsive HTML5" as the title?  

Hello, either I am not getting the FrameMaker to work or it fails miserably once it comes to hierarchical authoring. I hope it's my mistake though.I have created a warehouse topic (wt.xml), using a DITA topic file. Inside the warehouse topic, I have created multiple topics, of course the topics are nested, I have also created audiences for each topic: some are chap1 and some are marked chap2. Next, I have created two simple ditamaps. In both ditamaps, I insert a topicref to the warehouse topic. Consequently, they look identical so far. Last,  I have created two ditaval files: chapter1.ditaval and chapter2.ditaval. In the former, I include audiences with value chap1 and in the latter audiences with value chap2. Then, "as instructed by FrameMaker", I save Ditamap as Composite Document and activate Prompt For DitaVal File. It prompts for the ditaval file, I click coose. Now, I expect that in ditamap1, I see the topics, I have marked with chap1 and for ditamap2 the ones I ha

Is there a way to get a list of the current structured application names currently in memory with ExtendScript? I didn't find a similar property in the FDK docs and wonder if this list is exposed to ExtendScript. Thanks.

I've never embedded videos in my pdfs before, but would like to do so.But... I'm at a loss.I used File > Import > File, and selected an mp4 (the SpaceTravel.mp4 included with Framemaker).It appears like this:The examples on-line all show that the image frame should have the filmstrip graphic, but it doesn't.If I doubleclick the object, it opens and plays.If I generate the pdf (with Preferences>Global>General set to embed Adobe Flash files, 3-D objects, and multimedia objects), the pdf shows:(the faded bar was me clicking the object on the pdf -- it's just the image of the filmstrip, nothing else)Is there something else I'm supposed to do?(And does my graphics card (ooold) have anything to do with the problem?)Thanks.(I have weekend-brain, so am sure I'm probably missing something obvious :-))

Hello anybody, I am desparate!   My FrameMaker will not open and the following Error Message appears:   "This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.     I have tried everything and this is till popping up. Does anybody know what this means and how to fix it?   Thank you!   David  

Which files do I use to change frame="all" to frame="none" for the fig element?  And where are the files located? I'm using FrameMaker 12 (Technical Communication Suite 5) with product interface setting FrameMaker XML Author and DITA Version DITAv1.2 to create Topic, Concept, Task, and Reference files.     There are 54 "rules.txt" files in the FM program folder - which one(s) do I need to change? I found a similar 2008 question/answer but it addressed Structured FM8.   Thank you very much!

Hello, When I save dita topic, FM automatically inserts attribute frame="all" for all image elements. Somebody knows how to specify to FM not to do it? With kind regards, Andre

Using FrameMaker 19 and created a custom workspace that included the hypertext and cross reference dialogues. I then go to Manage Workspace after I add those two options, hit OK.  If I close FM, and apply that custom workspace, those two do not show up.

FrameMaker 2019 will no longer generate PDF versions of my books. It tells me Your Acrobat trial license has expired. Buy now to restore full access to Acrobat. Click okay to buy. When I click cancel, the message just reappears.   A version of Acrobat DC was loaded on to the system two months ago with a trial license. We found Apple's Preview a better choice for our needs so we never purchase a full Acrobat DC license. It appears if you don't purchase the Acrobat license, FrameMaker stops working. Anybody else encounter this?

We recently moved to FrameMaker 2019 from FrameMaker 2015. Our .pdf output files are now huge, compared to what they were before switching versions.For instance, using the exact same book, the output is thus:Old pdf (FM 2015, Smallest file size selected): 1889 KBNew pdf (FM 2019 with the Defaults.sts set to Smallest file size😞 43,645 KBReduced file size pdf (in Acrobat - File>Save as Other>Reduced Size PDF): 3624 KBWhat's going on? Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this? it's not an option to create the .pdf then save it as a smaller file in Acrobat, that's just way too redundant.Thanks for anything you can offer.

I generated the responsive HTML5 output from a DITA map. The output is not opening to the first file in the map, but to a file later. The first file is the introduction to the guide which I created from DITA topics and assembled into a map, as I've done many times before and never had a problem. I can't find a setting to tell it to open to a specific page. I'm using Adobe FrameMaker 2019, version 15.0.4.751.

I have a specific section of a book that needs to be paged using Roman Numeric style. I can only figure out how to do regular numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Using FM13

I am trying to create a context rule that basically says:   If you are inserting a FigureTitle into a Figure that is located in PgblkDESC (Highest-level element), and it is the first FigureTitle in that document, use paragraph format Figure0. If it’s not the first FigureTitle in that document, use paragraph format FigureTitleCont.   Attached is a clip of what I have currently that does not seem to be working. Anyone have any ideas why?  

Hi, I have a question regarding the use of conref in DITA. I have created a simple DITA concept file, see attached for a snapshot of the structure view. In this file, I have few nested concepts with clear ids. Now, I would like to refer to the individual concepts of this file using conref. What I have in mind is something like text insets. For instance, I would like to pull only the concept "europe" into a different file. Using a ditamap, I was only able to pull the whole file into the ditamap. But this is not exactly what I have in mind as I would like to avoid breaking down my files into very small pieces. Hadi

Hi, I'm new to FrameMaker and going through the 3-hour course that Adobe offers. I have been unable to open the Object  Properties dialog window however. I click on View, Toolbars, and then Object Properties, but it only gives me a tool bar, not the Object Properties box. Can anyone help?  Thanks! Dave

I have multiple graphic images that are not being displayed after I publish to Responsive HTML. Use Distiller to create images is NOT checked. When it is checked, the document does not even get published and I have to force close the program. Any ideas??   Thank you. Jason

When I edit the Settings File, to publish a Responsive HTML5 project, the Paragraph and Character Styles list are NOT reflecting the actual Paragraph and Character Styles in my project. Any ideas why?   I am trying to get the mapping and formatting to reflect the company template format. Since some styles are missing, I am unable to conform to company policy. Using FM 2017 and updated.   Thank you.

I have a conref to content that includes a xref. This looks like it works ok until I save my ditamap as a book and look at the resulting fm file. At which point the nested xref has disappeared (the fm-xref element exists but only contains WHITESPACE as the visible text, the href property is still present but the link is broken).Is there a way to make this work?Thanks!

I need to change the name of the file that is being linked to by many cross references in a book. The name of the linked file has been changed, but the contents of the file are the same. Is there a way to make global changes to the path for cross references? There are far too many links to redo them individually.
