FrameMaker

I've managed to install FM 2017 on Windows 10, although I did have to uninstall and delete everything Adobe from my machine to get it to work.It started well.  I opened a book file, it asked me if I wanted to convert to the new format, and I clicked OK.  Then I wanted to work through all the files to convert them all, but at the fourth file it all went wrong.  I clicked OK to convert, and FM shut down.  Now it does the same thing with every file I try to open. There's no error message.  The file opens but is blank, the little blue circle turns for a second or two, and then it all disappears.  This happens even for the smallest files (one page of text) that don't have graphics or anything complicated.If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful!Thank you

I'm trying to produce a book. I've produced several others with no problems, but one is not cooperating for the TOC, LOF, and LOT. They don't show up as the brighter orange files in the book view, and they don't generate. All items get labeled 1. Also, in the Update Book window, the Generate field is blank. The structure seems okay and the book validates.

Hello,I'm trying to create a PDF with registration marks out of FrameMaker (FM 2019). Using the publish tool, I get a PDF with registration marks on all the pages except the back cover.The back cover is no different than the other pages in my book in term of size and settings, so I don't understand what is going on.Has anyone encountered a similar issue?Also, is there another way beside 'file - publish' to add registration marks to a PDF in FM 2019? I used to be able to use the print setup/PDF setup functions (in FM2010) but it doesn't seem to work that way anymore.Thanks,

Hi,I'm working on FrameMaker8.  It was working fine on Friday.  Now it's Monday morning and I have two problems:1. In some books I can open the .book file but not any other files.  They give a serious internal error and there is no way to continue.2. In other books FM opens the files with no problem, it stays open for a couple of seconds, then the whole thing just disappears.  It's not on the task bar at the bottom of the screen, and it's not in Task Manager.  It just closes, with no message or anything.I've uninstalled FrameMaker8 and reinstalled it.  I've rebooted my machine several times, but the problem persists.  I can't work at all!If anyone has any suggestions for a solution, I would be very grateful.Thank you very much,Mairi Jane

I need to know if there's a way to get the Artboard number from an "Imported by Reference" Adobe Illustrator file?By looking at the Object Properties while the imported by Reference AI graphic is selected, I can see the file location and also the Artboard number, as shown below:When getting the file location using InsetFile, the artboard number does not show as part of the file location.Thanks.

Hi, our company is upgrading us to FrameMaker 2019 and we already have FrameMaker 2015 installed.Will we be able to run both versions simultaneously?  (We could this with FrameMaker 11 and FrameMaker 2015, so I hope that is still the case.)Thanks!

This is the fifth (and I think the last) such new discussion.Trevor, you used maker.ini to change FM's structure directory in order to avoid permission issues when changing files within $STRUCTDIR. There's nothing wrong with doing so, but there are other ways to organize your files. In particular, you can place the files needed for your own applications in any convenient directories. They don't have to be placed in new subdirectories of $STRUCTDIR. In fact, your application definition files don't even have to be named structapps.fm. Currently we are looking for a new content management tool which proves to be more structured, streamlined, bug-free and Microsoft Word-free than our current solution (AuthorIT).Our needs are quite simple:  1) We need to create and publish online (HTML) Help and PDF files regularly. When writing, we should be able to share one another's files (topics, books).  2) We need to prepare both the English and German outputs so we need a localization-friendly tool/solution. 3) We need to transfer our big legacy content (about 6000 norm pages when published into DOC or  PDF files) from our current tool into a new tool with as little effort as possible.   Is FrameMaker ticking all these check boxes? Dear all,To be 'really correct' in my Calendar axis function I want to write the month-names in the language of the anchoring paragraph (as long as it is de, en or fr).oFrame is the object (anchored frame) where I am in with my functionoFrame.FrameParent does not point to a paragraph, but to the text frame containing the anchoring paragraph.How to find out that paragraph?Do I need to run through all paragraphs of the text frame and check whether GetText provides andy anchors... and then look what is anchored (fortunaely I know the ID of my frame... ?

I think this must be really simple but I can't see the problem.I've defined a structured application with DOCTYPE, DTD, Template, read/write rules, pre- and post-processor stylesheets.I can open an existing XML document and everything works.On the Welcome screen under "Create a new document" there is a button labelled "<xml/>" with the name of my application, and lots of other buttons indicating document types in other structured applications.If I click any of the other buttons, Frame opens either an empty or trivial document, called "UntitledN.xml", and sets the structured application to that appropriate to the button I clicked.If I click the button corresponding to my application, nothing happens.I can't see any relevant difference between my application and the others - both have paths provided to template.fm documents (which exist), DTD and so on.Can anyone help me here please?Cheers,T

FrameMaker 2019. The line width palette is hard to use. A slider is not ideal for setting a line width. I like the old way (presets of .5, 1, 2, 3 pts or so) better. Any suggestions, keyboard shortcuts or instructions? I frequently change line widths while creating callouts and simple shapes in FrameMaker.

I am having issues with Japanese translated MIFs.When I open the MIFs the Japanese characters do not display correctly.I called tech support and they told me that I need to install the Japanese Language pack and change Windows OS from English to Japanese.I did but I get the same results.I had no issue when I opened the German and Spanish files.Please help with specific details on the resolution.

I'm new to FrameMaker and wanted how best to keep a graphic element in a side-head together with text in the body (eg. creating a warning graphic/note).

I am having to change the fonts in an 800 page document and there are upwards of THIRTY different fonts and even more color shade choices for the fonts.We are simplifying to Arial only and black text. So far I'm editing each page individually. I would love a .css file that I can go through quickly. Is this available?I'll keep searching the forum, but would love any help you guys can provide.Thanks!

I am running Framemaker 11.0.0.380 and Distiller 10.1.163 - and periodically I can't use SAVE AS PDF. If I reboot my system I then can. Usually I can make 1-2 PDFs and then it fails and I have to completely reboot.I have tried designating the printer as Adobe PDF and unchecking RELY ON SYSTEM FONTS ONLY ... sometimes I can make a PDF and sometimes I can't. I can sometimes designate my HP Envy printer in print setup - and I usually get 1-2 PDFs out before I have to reboot.When I look at apps (I am running Windows 10), I do see the Adobe PDF Creation Add-On X that loaded with FrameMaker.I also have Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection and Adobe Acrobat X Pro.I should say that my system with this software worked for years until I added Windows 10.Any ideas about this? I would appreciate some help - losing so much time to rebooting.Jennifer
