Hi -I'm importing Word 2016 files into Frame 2019 using Copy Into Document. After mapping the Word doc styles to my Frame doc formats in the Word Import dialog, I created a Preset File to save my map choices. The process works fine for the initial import after creating the STS file, but when when trying to repeat the Word file import process for another Frame file, Frame consistently crashes when I try to select my saved STS file in Word Import dialog. I've tried saving the STS to another location, but Frame still crashes. I don't see this issue on the Forum, so wondering if I'm doing something wrong. -Jeff
I'm trying to create an interactive document PDF in FrameMaker and am getting stuck trying to make hyperlinks that opens an external html page with information as well as a thumbnail which opens up an image in a new window. I see information regarding opening up other FM files as well as URLs (using HTTP:// web addresses), but nothing regarding a local HTML page (ToolsTableXXX.html or .pdf). This is all really new to me because most of my work has been primarily revolving around printed publications, but... anyone?
My small workgroup recently upgraded from FM10 to FM2019, and while I'm mostly loving it, the new (to us, anyway) Align pod doesn't quite match our working style: It sometimes happen that we need to align tens or hundreds of pages of imported images (PDF outputs from another group that get imported into frames in our documents) to the top center of the frame. With the old Align dialog, the vertical and horizontal alignment choices were radio buttons that held their settings, and all we had to do for each page was to select the imported image and click Apply. With the new scheme, we have to click two buttons for each page before clicking Apply. In the grand scheme of things, of course, two extra mouse clicks doesn't seem like much... but the way we use this, it tends to add up.So... is it possible that the old dialog-format tool is still there, hidden in the bowels of the latest version? Or is there perhaps some other workaround that we haven't thought of? Thanks in advance for any help
Hi, I'm new here. We have a major issue in Framemaker 2019 (updated - and Windows 10 (hungarian, also updated) ) .The first part of this issue is simple. If I want to open a old document, all my menus becomes grayed out. I can't choose "save", "save as" or "print" until then I wont open a brand new, empty page. After this, my menus are appears, but if I want to select "save to pdf" under my old document, and my software start to produce my PDF file, something is happening, and Framemaker is suddnely crashed, and quits. Unfortunately, there is no error message or error code.I try to reinstall and reset my preferences (and workspace), and I already updated everything, but i did not succeed. Please suggest me any solution about my issue.
I was conditionalizing every second line of an example, line by line. Someone said "why don't you use the upper shift key or the Ctrl key to select all the lines that you want". To be honest, I don't know what went wrong, but the result is that I have half a page that looks like this:There was no Undo, and Ctrz-Z didn't work. The backup file is like this too.I can see a double dotted line round what I think is the page frame, so it looks like frames have been duplicated and then moved on top of one another. I can't find a way to sort this out, can anyone help, please? Thank you very much.
Do the following:In a new FM document, put a few sentences at the top of the page.Add a table below those sentences.Create a second table below the first.Click Insert > Marker and insert a marker in one of the cells in each table. Give the markers unique contents.Place the cursor in the first table and then open the Table Designer. On the Basic tab of the Table Designer, Set the Start value to TOP OF PAGE and click Apply. Both tables should jump to the following page, with the first table remaining above the second table, as it should.Save the FM document.Add the FM document to a Book file.In the Book file, create a List of Markers, setting it to use the marker type you used in Step 4 above.Update the book.Open the LoM document and check the order of the two table markers. The second table marker should be listed above the first table marker, even though the second follows the first in the body document. Why should the TOP OF PAGE quality rearrange the order of markers in the LoM?
Trying to find information about running 64-bit FM2019 on a thin-client system. Will this require a site license? Can individual users implement third-party add-ons (scripts or plug-ins) with a single-user license? Is there publicly available case history experience for such a configuration?Thank you very much!

Dear A llI have to re-edit old articles I wrote in the 90s and I have some drawings (5 to be precise) still published with FrameMaker. Unfortunately I do not work with framemaker anymore. Does anyone know if there is a simple solution I can use to edit these files and export them in .eps or .pdf (I searched but looks like that Adobe is not proposing a free monthly trial anymore)? Thank you very much for your adviceFabrice
Hi All,I need to make a table that has 2, 3, or 4 columns - in the same table. The workflow that I currently follow:Create a table with 4 columns. When required, straddle the columns to reduce the numbers of columns to 2 or 3. The problem is with unequal column spacing when odd number of columns is required. Is there another way to create tables in Framemaker with greater flexibility? For example., please find below a table in MS Word that has equal widths for 2, 3, or 4 columns and a similar table in Framemaker that has unequal width for 3 columns, as the only option I have is to straddle the widths. Is there a way to insert an odd numbers of columns in a table with even numbers or vice versa? Thanks in advance, Regards Apurva
Hi All,We are proposing to write a technical document in Hindi using Framemaker. The customer insists that all text, including the numbers, should be in Devanagari, which is the font set used for Hindi and several other Indian languages. The Hindi numbers are similar to the English numbers (0,1,2,3 etc.) except that they use the Devanagari script: Devanagari numeral - Wiktionary For the regular paragraphs, we are able to copy/paste Hindi text from Notepad or Word into Framemaker and apply a paragraph style. The sample document has a chapter number of 1 (Format > Document > Numbering > Chapter > Chapter #).Aim: To implement Hindi numbers in Headings1, Heading 2 , Heading 3 etc. paragraph styles: (expected results in English: 1., 1.1., 1.1.1, etc.)Go to Font tab in the Paragraph Designer. Change the font to a Devanagari font such as Adobe Devanagari, Mangal, or Noto Sans Devanagari. Select the Autonumber Paragraphs checkbox in the Numbering tab of the Paragraph Designer. Add
This happened earlier today (before I loaded the latest update) and it still is happening.I have an anchored frame in which I have imported (by reference) a Visio file as an object. The image width is larger than the height. So, I normally have it (it's been there for over a year :-)) rotated 90 so that I can increase the scaling factor.Never been a problem, doc would be generated as a pdf and appear fine.Today... if I rotate the image it shows on-screen properly. If I have the scaling factor set so that the image is about 8" 'high', it appears properly in the pdf.If I increase the scaling factor so it fills most of the page (>8" high), everything in the image below the ~8" mark is cropped off. This is ... weird. Any ideas what is happening? Thanks!
I'm using a trial version of FM2019. I'm importing a large MIF file into a frame document. Each time FM2019 just quits. The MIF file would generate a frame document of 2100 pages. I know this because the same MIF file imports into FM7.1 just fine.Any thoughts?
I am unable to select anything on the Help menu in FM 19. When I click on the menu, it displays, but when I try to select anything it closes. Is anyone else experiencing this difficulty?
Hi,In the data browser for FM2019 there are a number of functions in the global object prefixed with "SiD_".e.g. SiD_FindOpenDoc(), SiD_Log(), SiD_MakePod().I can't find the term "SiD_" in any documentation.Does anyone know what these are for, or what SiD stands for? Thanks
Como salvar books e documentos criados em Framemaker versão 2017 para versão 2015?
Which version control system do you use? svn or git or something else?If you are using Git: - as the idea of Git is to have multiple branches.. have you been able to do that for Framemaker files? and be able to merge later?Since Adobe Framemaker files are binary files, how do you do diffs between versions?Any feedback is much appreciated.ThanksMeera
When I went from FrameMaker 10 to FrameMaker 17, the majority of my file imports now have a thick black outline. I searched the forums and was unable to find a solution. The only thing I can do at this point is delete the files and import them again. This solution is fine however my manuals are very large so it will be very time consuming. Any suggestions? Thanks,Justine Dunn
I have struggled trying to find a way to change the default type of file FM shows when using the File > Open dialog. After switching to Structured Framemaker we now primarily work in .XML and .DITAMAP files. We have now used Framemaker 2015, 2017, and now 2019 and the behavior continues. It drives me insane that every time I use File > Open, I have to switch the file type off of Book (*.book) to All Files. Is there a setting where I can change this default? I can't find any maker.ini or preference option but am hoping someone has found a solution.
FM 2017 user hereI often need to use a menu option that doesn't have a keyboard shortcut (such as Insert > Character > Hex Input). Is there a way I can assign a keyboard shortcut to those keystrokes? Or perhaps make that into a macro? I'm tired of having to use the mouse so repetitively. Thanks!
FM 2017 here.I'm having trouble making my quotation marks straight. I click Edit > Preferences > Spelling Options and mark/unmark the Straight Quotes ("), but I get the same results regardless of whether the checkbox is marked or not.I can insert a straight quote using the \x27 code and do a Find/Replace of the existing curly quote but it replaces the curly quote with another curly quote. The only thing that works is Find/Change by pasting.
I am setting up an automatic build environment for our software products using Jenkins. One part of it is the documentation, therefore I am trying to setup framemaker tasks from an API.I am able to:- Create a task using CURL (http request passing the task configuration from an XML template)- Edit a task- Run a taskwhen the user associated with the FMPS application is logged on. For our build automation we configure the necessary tools involved to run as service, without the need to any user to be logged on. And I expected that from a web server as FMPS. I've seen it is possible to configure the Framemaker task in the Windows Task Scheduler to "Run whether user is logged on or not".However I get anyway the response:....* STATE: PERFORM => DONE handle 0x600092e20; line 1980 (connection #1)* multi_done* Connection #1 to host XYZ left intact* Expire cleared<string xmlns="h t t p: // schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/">User "User_XYZ" not logged in. Task could not be run&
… or, "Now you see it, now you don't." Pending the arrival of my nice new TCS, I thought I'd remind myself of how out-of-the-box FM12 displays DITA files. Opened a .ditamap no problem, fairly familiar-looking tree view. Explored. Found a View menu, with two options Structure view … and Document view … Clicked venturesomely on Document view, noticed that despite the ellipsis after the command name there was no farther interaction possible, observed change. Wanted to go back to Structure view: not there! The View menu has changed its position in the menu and offers different commands.I'm sure people familiar with using the structured interface will take this in their stride, but as a new and mildly curious visitor I'd welcome some advice on this single point of switching a .ditamap between structure view and document view. Thanks in advance!
This looks like something related to a useful training course I took a few years ago … didn't go any farther with what I learnt, and now I find I didn't tidy up after myself: my bad. (though I'm fairly confident I'll have backups of anything I changed)symptom: trying to open DITA files in FM12 (structured interface) tells me "Translator client (ditafmx_app) was not found. Operation could not be completed." Fair comment.question: which config file do I need to edit, and what should it say if I want to use out-of-the-box FM?Thanks in advance!
Is there a way in the Find/Change dialog to search for a character tag, capture the corresponding text and use that text in the Change field?
