FrameMaker

Time for my daily FrameMaker DITA question. Does the INI file still control the depth of the TOC? I have an INI file calling for three levels in the TOC:Template=TOCTpl.fmElementTags=ParaTags=title.0|title.1|title.2When I build my PDF file I get all headings plus Figure numbers and Tasks (step 1)The reason I ask is that more of the PDF output is controlled via the Publish > PDF > Settings File.I am still not clear what is controlled by the INI file and what is controlled by the Settings file.

I am not sure if this is the place to put in for a new feature request, but a catalog of named destinations within a .book file would be amazing. So, for instance, when I am inserting a "jump to named destination" hypertext marker, it would be great if I could have a pre-populated list of specified named destinations (that I have created throughout the book) to choose from.

Does anyone have a regular expression for how to add a comma to a column(s) of numbers in FrameMaker? The columns are 4, 5, and 6 digits mixed.

I would think that conditional text or inserts are stored where we can find/read/edit them. I haven't used FrameMaker in years and haven't been in a position where I used conditional text, inserts, or variables. Is there a folder where I can find the content. Previous writers on this project have used their own naming conventions and did not work to style defined by the team. 7 writers geographically disbursed, all of which are gone now.Thank You

Framemaker 2019 freezeWe have a user, who upgraded to Framemaker 2019 on a new laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad T570, i7, 16GB Ram and Windows 10).Her problem is that Framemaker keeps freezing. Fx opening a document and when she clicks on the second line (2321_relaX-XL...), Framemaker freezes totally.No reaction on the screen and in the view, the characters are not complete - blurry.Only way is to Kill the program.Happens more times. Checked for updates, on the newest version.

Framemaker 2019 64 bit with update 1 installed still crashing when I try to import any graphic.  Same FM also crashes if I try to pdf any document.  I have run through all the traps that I am aware of.  Changing the 15 file to 15_old and launching.  Yes, FM was installed using Admin rights.  I am dead in the water on two separate machines.  I have another user who does not have update 1 installed and he can pdf documents but he also has the crashing issue when trying to import documents.  This has been a persistent issue since the original install 4 months ago.  I've been in touch with Adobe but I have no resolution.  Just wondering if anyone else is having similar issues with 2019 update 1.

When creating external URL links, only the marker shows as active, not the entire selected text.For example, if I write "For more information see, the Adobe Web site"Despite the fact that I selected "Adobe Web site," applied the hyperlink character format, and then select Insert>Hypertext and copy the URL after the "message URL" text in the Hypertext box, when I run the PDF, the entire Adobe Web site text isn't clickable. Only what's really the marker that's inserted in front of the A in Adobe is. How can I ensure the entire text of that link is clickable for end users?Thanks!

We are looking into going with a 3rd-party CMS, like Subversion, and wondered if anyone has ever run into any snafu's using that or some other similar CMS with FrameMaker? We looked into the currently-supported CMS's with Adobe, GIT and SharePoint, and neither are good for our team, which is why we've researched other options. I was just looking for some input if there were things to keep in mind. Thanks!

We are trying to Update Style for all cross-references, including those next to a bullet.At first the hyperlink shows up as our default text:We want to change the font to be blue and underlined each time we create a cross-reference, without changing the default text or bullet:

HiI was originally working on a VDI with Framemaker 12 and Webworks 2017.1Life was good.Recently, I moved to VMWare fusion with Frameaker 15 and Webworks 2018.2 and I am unable to generate online help, as webworks seems to stop halfway. I tried to increase the memory on VMWare, but no use so far.. Did anyone have similar problem and can you advise me on how to fix this?Thanks a bunch for any help.I did ask Webworks.. and waiting for their response.They gave me a patch to install and that didnt work. I tried to downgrade to 2017.1 and I still get the same problem.ThanksMeera

I have a chapter where I used Keep with Next on the Pagination tab to keep some information together, which moved it onto the next page in FrameMaker. Everytime I create a PDF of the document, though, that information is being moved BACK to the previous page and I wind up with a blank page at the end of the chapter. In frustration, I finally put FrameMaker into two page mode and PDF'd only that file, and watched in disbelief as the PDF process, right in front of my eyes, moved that information I'd wanted on the next page onto the previous page in FrameMaker before completing the PDF, then put it back on the next page!I'm going to use Insert Page Break as a work around, but I'd like to know what is going on here.Pertinents:Windows 7, fully patchedFrameMaker 2019, fully patched (as far as I know)

I set up the number for the chapter so it shows the letter A:However, the TOC is still referencing it as a chapter. How do I get it to say Appendix A in the TOC?

FM2017 / Win 7 / DITA 1.2Setting up output templates for a DITA application. Decided that I'd like to include the chapter title in my running header so that it would read "Chapter 1: Chapter Title"So in my chapter output template, I edited one of the running header variables to accommodate. I believe it was Running H/F 5, which is already <$paratext[paratag]> and I filled in my chapter title style, which is head.0.So basically, what I'm hoping to get is Chapter <$chapnum>: Running H/F 5 (<$paratext[head.0]>) (obviously, with the correct values in place of the building blocks). I test with some content, it works in the template, I remove the content and save the template. For good measure, I made sure that I also updated the variable in the other templates I use for book building (Title, TOC, Index).But now, when I output my map (book with FM components), what I get is Chapter <$chapnum>: with nothing further. Dear all,Inspecting a graphic object - e.g. a TextLine - I want to list the property values. It's easy to get a list of all the property names. But I want to get the values of these properties, for example BasePointX = 12345678;How can I do this without writing tons of lines like$.writeln ("BasePointX = " + oObject.BasePointX);In many cases objects are still UFOs for me...The reason for my qustion is this:A TextLine can have the property  oTextLine.TextLineType = Constants.FV_TEXTLINE_CENTER;But this changes the BasePointX - although the UI Object Properties dialogue does not reflect the real values!In the following picture for both TextLines Left = 3.0cm is reported. In an earlier Frame version, it was easy to copy/paste a table to an Outlook message and preserve the table format, with a simple copy/paste. This is no longer possible in Frame 19: it copies the table as plain text, it does not preserve the table or bullets, etc. I set Outlook Format Text to HTML, and still no go. I recently upgraded from Frame 15 to Frame 19.

Admit I've probably made a stupid mistake or accidentally click on a shortcut but, having editied an Unstructured Framemaker document successfully for over an hour, something changed and now, whenever I enter new text, it appears in Batang font, rather than the font used in the defined styles. This occurs regardless of the paragraph or character style selected.Any suggestions?

I have to create 500+ pdf books for some automotive documentation.. Each PDF is having little bit changes compared with other pdf. I want to keep one single framemaker to generate all pdf files. If i am creating each framemaker files for each book..in updation it make so many work loads even though the changed content is  common to all pdf's...So let me know is there any way to generate multiple pdf by single framemaker..

HiI'm working with DITA and I would like to have a list of acronyms and abbreviations added to my book (save ditamap as book with fm components). I have learned that if I use Indexterm elements I can have a pretty nice list of these in Index page. But I feel that this is not the right way to do it.I found also glossentry-file (or glossgroup for several entries) where I can have the acronyms and also the long term and with abbreviated-form element it should be possible to get automatically the acronym or the long one to the topics. But here comes the problem.I don't know how to refer to this glossgroup, when adding to ditamap and then in topics with abbreviated-form. I have searched from web but I don't understand where these href, keyref and keys values are coming from. I have ID for the glossgoup and I guess that ID should be href or kref, but what are the others?If glossgroup is used is there a possibility to get the list of used acronyms and abbreviations with the explanations added

Hello all,I've an issue where the TOC entries in a generated .pdf are being truncated.  So far, I've played around a bit with page layout and text frame size as well as tab stops but no luck.  Here is a composite showing a screenshot from FM and one from Adobe reader.  Note how the chapter/page is not showing in reader.Thanks in advance.regards,Ben

We would like to change the formatting of the Note. We are able to update and save the font for the note itself, but not the word "Note." Is this possible?

Hello,I use FrameMaker 10 with one of my clients and he wants me to use the same fonts as the original Pdf.For most of the fonts it's ok, But when I create the Pdf on my computer I have The "Helvetica-BoldOblique" (Type 1) missing.It seems to be replaced by "Helvetica, BoldItalic" (True Type).Please can you tell me how to fix this ?PS : I do have Helvetica-BoldOblique  installed.ThanksBonjour, J'utilise  FrameMaker 10 avec un de mes clients et il tient à ce que j'utilise le même Polices que sur le pdf original.La pluspart des polices sont ok. I'm trying to generate Responsive HTML5 through FM 12 (without RH). Does anyone know if there's a way to disable the glossary and index? Will I have to dig into the code, or is there a function in FM that lets you stop it from being generated?

I'm using FrameMaker 2019 and I'm encountering a strange issue. When I generate the TOC for my book, all entries in the TOC are duplicated, meaning the elements are listed properly and then they are all listed again. The first set of entries includes right tab top and leaders, then immediately following this, everything is listed again, this time without the leaders or tab stop.The only thing that I can think of that might be related is that I recently started getting unavailable font errors every time I update the book. TO remedy this, I had to replace courier with courier new in my template. I don't see how the two could be related, but its also a recent problem.I'll continue to troubleshoot it, but if anyone can think of a reason as to why this might be happening, I'd appreciate it.

Using DITA XML, I'd like to put a table within a table. Framemaker tells me, I'm not allowed to do:But the DITA Specification tells me, a table within a table is allowed:What did I miss?Or is the DITA XML Integration in FM 2019 incomplete?
