FrameMaker

Hi there,I am trying to convert unstructured to stuctured documents using the conversion table.  I'm building the prototype table and EDD that my department will use, and working in FM 10. Ideally, I'd like to get it to the point where all anyone else has to do is apply the table, but I'm having some issues.Even though I specify that RE:RootElement should be wrapped in the element Chapter, nothing happens.  My documents come out wrapped in the no-name element, and I have to change them manually to get them to behave.  Any ideas if this is a known issue, or if there is a different way I should specify things, or something else I should write into the EDD?I followed the instructions in RJ Jacquez's video here: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/structured-authoring-xml-and-dita/migrating-to-structured-framemaker-using-conversion-tables/I've checked the Structured Applicaiton Developer's Guide for FM 9.0 (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FrameMaker/9.0/StructuredDev/Structure_Dev_Guide.p

I am looking at using the Hazard Statement elements as part of the DITA framework. I like the idea of assigning the applicable attribute type (danger, caution, warning) and having the banner change automatically. For example, when you chose type: danger, it pulls up a red banner with a warning symbol.Here is my question, where and how to I change how this banner looks? I like the idea of having the banner populate by simply assigning the type attribute, but I would like to change the color, symbol and placement of text. I can't for the life of my figure out where Framemaker keeps or pulls this graphic from.I know I could use the hazardsymbol element and insert my own symbol, but this takes away from the functionality of having DITA "lock down" which symbol goes with which type of hazard statement. Please see attached example.

Hello, all.I am using FM 2015 in a Win 10 environment.I have created a text inset that appears multiple times in a document. Items in the text inset are indexed. In the completed index, a page number appears for every location of that text inset. A user clicking on multiple links will be frustrated to find that they are identical.Is there a way to tell FM to display only one instance of an item that has been indexed in an inset that appears in multiple locations?(Interestingly, the .chm output is smart enough to link to only one location.)Thanks.--Nancy

Hi All,I need to save a chapter as pdf. the chapter was created in FM 2007, and I have only FM 2019 available at this point. FM 2019 starts to save the file, and at the very end doesn't complete the task. The saving progress window is still showing.I tried saving the file to FM 2019 and then saving again - it didn't help much. Any ideas?Thank you,

Hello, all.I am using FM 2015 in a Windows 10 environment.In some paragraphs, we use an anchored frame in the middle of a sentence to show a small icon. The anchored frame is positioned at the insertion point. In PDF output, the icon remains in the correct location. In published .chm output, the icon appears flush right, followed by a hard return, breaking up the paragraph.The Publish Settings don't include any settings for anchored frames (that I have been able to find). Why is the location of the anchored frame changing?Thanks.

I am working on a DITA project and I'm having some trouble with table ruling styles.  I have a table format defined in my structured application template and EDD.  When I initially insert the table, it is formatted properly--in accordance with the desired table format.  Upon saving the file, closing, and then reopening, the table ruling style is changing and no longer matches the defined format.

Is it possible to write context rules in an EDD in such a way that Text Format rules are different based on the value of an element? I have an element in a list and I want to change the numbering format based on the value of a parent element. Comparable structure might be:FirstNameLastNameList     ListItem1     ListItem2I want to change the Autonumber format of ListItem1 and ListItem2 depending on whether the <TEXT> of FirstName="Sam" or FirstName="Dave"Thanks for any help,Brian

Grr. Have Technical Communication Suite 2017. Supposedly comes with Acrobat DC. Worked fine at first, but after 30 days Acrobat says I need to buy. I enter my serial number for the Technical Communication Suite, but it's rejected. What's going on? Surely Adobe Technical Communication Suite comes with a professional-grade PDF editor.

Are there situations where FM's "spread" control (in Paragraph Designer) can become inoperable, or perhaps can be counteracted by some other setting, in such a way that it will be able to change the tracking on some paragraphs, but seem to be useless on others, no matter how you set it? These are all fully justified paragraphs, with a normal default spread of negative 1. The Word Spacing is also set to the same percentages on all paragraphs.I've been trying to bump down to the next line an en dash that needs to be directly followed by a "46," followed by a nonbreaking space, a degree sign, and finally a capital "C" for "Celsius"), but currently, that en dash stubbornly wants to sit by itself at the very end of the line, with the "46" sitting at the beginning of the next line....which is no good! I figured the easiest way to keep this temperature together is to nudge the en dash to the line below, joining the rest of the temperature range....but there is no value, negative or positive,

Hello,I have a client looking for a professional to layout a 900-page catalog using FrameMaker.  I have never heard of such a thing.  I know one would use InDesign but FrameMaker?  To give some background, the client's sister company is in Europe and they are sending, to the states, their 900 page catalog that needs to be edited for USA use:  some products are not available in the state, converting metrics, and converting European English to American English.  So, again, I'm wondering if there was a miscommunication.    Can anyone offer insight?Thank you!Shannon

Is there a way to put auto-numbering in a marker?  I normally cross-reference to a paragraph format that has auto-numbering, but in this case I'd rather reference a marker instead of a paragraph format.  But I need the auto-numbering too, so the number will be display in the XRef link.When a user clicks an XRef link, the destination displays at the top of the screen.  However, in my situation there are times when some of the relevant content is above that destination.  This means the user has to scroll up to see all of the content.I'm not allowed to move the destination to the top of the relevant content, which is a problem I'm having to work through.Thanks!Doug

Hi everyone,so I have this situation: I have 6 lines of text which I want to hide from my document. Those are headlines, and I must have them, so they appear as a header on each page. I have defined variables (<$paratext[paratag]>) Running H/F3, Running H/F4, etc. Because I don't want those 6 lines to be visible in body text but only in header, I have created & applied condition and hide it. The problem is that FrameMaker takes that condition into count even on variables, and it hides all occurrences - in body text and in headers! My question is: how can I hide headlines from body text, and keep variables visible at the same time?Solution that I don't use conditions at all and, and that, for example, I use white color for headlines, is not an option, because headlines are taking to much space on page (even if I set font size to 2pt). Any idea how to resolve this? I am working with Structured FM (which I am new to), so maybe there is some solution other then conditional text..

We were having crash issues with 2019, mostly around importing files but pdf generation was working.  Now, after Release 1 just selecting the "save as pdf" option, FM immediately crashes with no notification.Also, any attempt to import a graphic, using the icon, using the "file import" option or dragging and dropping causes FM to crash as well.  No notification, it just closes.

I imported a PDF file into a FrameMaker document. When I now try to save the document as a PDF or print it as PDF, FrameMaker starts to load and continues to load without anything happening. Adobe Distiller does not open. The same problem occurs when importing similair PDF files.When my colleagues save as PDF the same FrameMaker document on their computer, it works fine.When I save as PDF a FrameMaker document without an imported PDF file, it works fine.When I save as PDF a FrameMaker document with an imported PDF file that I created myself in Word, it works fine.I tried different PDF settings, Adobe PDF as default printer, deselecting "Generate Acrobat Data", I tried both "Save as PDF" and the Adobe printer, I tried moving the documents to local hard drives and I tried optimizing the PDF file. Nothing made a difference.We have FrameMaker 2015 and Windows 10.Would be great if anyone could offer advice.

Framemaker 2017 - i figured out that FM have some problems with RAM of 4GB. In a document of 10 pages, plentyof  images ai kind, i can not copy and paste text from a page to another, appearing the message "go to next page" in place of the text wanted. How can i resolve this?

Today FM 12.0.4.445 started to import b/w cmyk-graphics (Photoshop TS5) as bluish/w. Where is the problem?

I have create 8 books, now I want to put them all into one book. Each book has it's own TOC that I want to keep, but I want to make one master. Where can I find this information?

HiI get this error when I update my book which was saved as "book 2019 with fm components" from a ditamap. I have topics and tasks in my map. If I use only topics or only tasks, I don't get the error.I opened the Conditional tags -Pod and I see that for tasks domain-ui-d is red. For some reason if I create a task and I don't add any content, I just save it, close and open it, it turns red.Because I don't get an error if I use only tasks I guess that the problem is that this same conditional tag is red for task and black for topic.My question is, why those have different colors and how that could be changed?

I have TCS 2017 installed and downloaded and installed the TCS 2019 trial early last week. Today I discovered that Adobe Acrobat 2017 Pro limits its trial period to seven (7) days when it's installed as part of the Technical Communications Suite 2019 30-day trial. I had been focused on testing RoboHelp for the past week and when I went to launch Acrobat today it showed I am at 0 days remaining and need to buy a license to continue.Does anyone know what impact hitting 0 days will have on Acrobat: Will this only limit me to the features of the previous version of Acrobat 2017 that I had with TCS 2017, or will it render Acrobat completely unusable? Will I have to uninstall all of TCS 2019 to revert to my TCS 2017 version of Acrobat?Thanks in advance,Alan

Hi,we need to deploy numerous installations of Framemaker 2017 (32bit) on Windows 10 64bit systems. However, the 32bit package created by the Cloud Packager won't successfully install on 64bit systems, as it seems: In all installation tasks FM is missing in the final installation, only the Cloud Software gets installed. This problem does not exist when we install the 64bit version of Framemaker 2017. However, this is currently not an option due to workflow constraints with another software product we use.The question to get around this bug is: Which reg-Keys must be set to make the installation being "registered" and avoid that the user is presented the EULA form at the first launch? I don't mind that the Software talks "home" since we DO have have the licenses. 🙂best regardsOlaf

Any hints on how to stop FrameMaker 17 from constantly crashing?I have used many prior versions of FrameMaker and have never experienced this. This version seems to be poor at best.

Our books use some custom TrueType fonts. I have installed them (and deleted them, and reinstalled them, and rebooted, repeatedly) but Frame says it can't find them. More specifically, it can find the base font (MetricNEW) but none of the flavors (bold, italic, light, semibold, et al.). Word is able to bold/italicize them, though it also only shows the base name. Not sure whether that's normal for Word or not.When I open one of the chapters, I get the warning about unavailable fonts and substitution with Times New Roman. If I then go into the Paragraph Designer, the list of fonts shows the base font and a couple of the flavors, with the flavors greyed out. The base DOES work. I'm guessing that it's only showing the two flavors because they're the only ones called out by the book.One of my colleagues can open the books fine; he also hasAny guesses as to what's going on?
