FrameMaker

We are looking into going with a 3rd-party CMS, like Subversion, and wondered if anyone has ever run into any snafu's using that or something similar with FrameMaker (or RH)?

I have the following situation: I've been publishing books in Responsive HTML5 for some time. It was working perfectly well. Now, the process hangs up in the post-processing stage. I have no idea what could have gone wrong. The only thing I have been changing is the .h file.Please help! I will be thankful for any piece of advice.

I think Adobe FrameMaker is the closest thing to Corel Ventura Publisher 10, which I have been using since version 1.1 (Digital Research GEM/DOS). It starts with a blank page, and I just start typing - or importing a file.  When the text gets long, it just automatically adds page 2, and so on. I can't get use to the way InDesign works. Having to draw frame for the text reminds me too much of PageMaker (which I never used.) One thing I wish FM could do is hanging punctuation.  Will it ever be considered?

Just downloaded the update and tried to output a document to PDF format. If the FM file is located in the root directory (not under any "folder"), PDF output fails. The version 15 just created a folder (directory) with the same name of the document, and save a PDF file there. I have Adobe Acrobat Professional and it outputs to a PDF file with no problem if I "print" (to Adobe Acrobat). The work around is to save the FM file under a folder, and output a PDF file from there.

After what seems like a successful install of Framemaker 2019, when I try to launch the program only the splash screen appears. It gets as far as FMPopUpMenus then the splash screen disappears without opening the application. I Installed the 64-bit program on a Windows 10 64-bit laptop. Here are the specifics about my system:Processor: AMD A8-4500MRAM: 8GBSystem type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processorWindows 10 HomeVersion 1803Build 17134.286Any ideas on what to try to get FM 2019 to launch?

I need to create links from Visio graphics to tables, figures, and titles within my mil-std doc.Before I dive into the weeds, has anyone successfully accomplished this, and exported to SGML?I'm considering two approaches:Determine a URL based upon the ID of the reference, and insert into Visio file (I'm concerned that this will be too fragile)Create hotspot with link to hypertext marker in anchored frame (not sure this will survive export to SGML)Visio files are currently saved as WMF, but also wondering if SVG would be a better choice for export. Using Fm 2015.Can anyone share a success story?-Matt

I am not a fan of how FrameMaker formats the Glossary by default. It first lists the glossterm on one line, then the glossdef on the second line, slightly indented.I would like the term and definition to sit on the same line, but my attempts to format this have been unsuccessful.I thought of creating an invisible table and putting glossterm in the left column, and glossdef in the right column. Am I barking up the right tree? Please tell me there is a way to do this. Thanks!

I have a ditamap that contains some topicrefs and some dita files. When I use 'Save DITAMAP as...' Book 2017 with fm components, the book does not publish as I would expect. I have no idea what may have prompted this behavior, which is why I'm here. Today, for some reason, I can not select text in a FrameMaker document — one in which I have worked before with the usual ability. I can't click and drag the mouse to select text, nor can I put down a cursor and use the Shift key together with an arrow key to select text. Considering that I do a lot of cutting and pasting back and forth, along with changing fonts, styles, and weights, this limitation is exceedingly frustrating. Any ideas where FrameMaker lost its ability to select text?Using FM 2017 in Windows 10.Thank you.

We just noticed a major issue in the 'save as rtf' from FrameMaker 12.The first printscreen is the FrameMaker-file where everything is looking fine.When you see to the second printscreen (Word) you will notice that footnote number 8 from FrameMaker is located in the text and not as footnote.Also the first paragraph after the footnote in Word is deleted (Art. 11...).It's the second book we see this issue. Has anyone an explanation for this behavior?PS. When we copy paste into another document and export the issue is gone, but we make thousands of books so it's unhandy to perform this copy paste action. Also it's creating other problems...

Hi -I have a book file with 3 chapters set up:front matter i-ivChapter 1Chapter 2Chapter 3Looking to get numbering set up so the Chs 1-3 continue from the previous chapter, with Chapter 1 starting with 1. They start with independent numbering: 1-32, 33-99,100-200.This is my approach:1 Select chapters 1-3 and set Continue numbering with Numeric (14). This sets pages up correctly with numbering sequencing to the end of the book.2 Define numbering for Chapter 1 to start at 1 for Chapter 1 (Numeric - 14) - As soon as I do this step, all the book chapters return to 1-32, 33-99,100 -200.Anyone know what I'm missing? I've tried this several times.Thx.

HI - I have a Running Header issue that just needs an "aha moment".Its a simple set up - I have a Running Header set up properly. That variable pulls from a very lengthy PTag, lets call it H3.It is on a right master page and flush right to the page. When I view it in my body page the P-Tag (H3) is XXX.004.00 – This is the full length of the Paragraph Tag Called Heading 3.But the running header (right flush with the page) looks like this: XXX.004.00 – This is the full length of the Paragraph Tag CalledAgain, it is right flush, and there is plenty of space on the left hand side to pull out the title and have a complete title showing. Instead, it cuts off the title.I suspect it is in the Advanced tab on Paragraph Designer for Header, but no matter what I change the numbers to on that page, I still don't get the whole title.(The same P-tag shows up as a left hand master page header on the opposite side, and there is no problem viewing the whole Heading 3.Anyone want to enlighten me? Thx!

I am working in FM15 and I work in a group of other writers that also have FM15.  My particular issue is, when I have a file open, and I select the save icon, it only saves the file, the backup file is not updated.  But, if I go into File<Save, then both files update.  My cube mate, when he has a file open, and selects the save icon, both his file and backup update.  I've gone through all the settings I am aware of and looked online for a solution but I can not find anything.I have Automatic Backup on Save selected along with Auto Save Every 2 minutes.  Any advice would be appreciated, thanksRichard

Do I really need to do the whole Transfer License dance to just move/switch my Framemaker license to someone in my Creative Cloud Team? (I'm administrator and I bought the FM license so that's why it is in my name)  I know FM is not yet included in Creative Cloud for Teams and that is mainly the reason I need to dance for Adobe. Follow-up question would therefore by; when will FM be included in Creative Cloud for Teams?

HelloI have an existing old version from my PC (FM V7), I know right , very old. No we have purchased the license for FM2019. We have been told to install the trialversion first before we can get the FM2019 (full version) with License. The issue was, we cannot install the trial version, what would be the issue? We extracted the zip file and got Set Up.exe. But only gave us blank window. What would be the issue? Can you please assist? Thank you in advance.One more thing... Why are we installing the Trial version first? Can we install the FM2019 by skipping this process?

I have enabled the Auto Save option in the General section of preferences and set it to save every 2 minutes. However, there are no auto saved files being created. In FM 2017 they would appear in the same directory as the .fm and backup files but there don't seem to be any files created in FM2019. Are they being saved somewhere else or is this function not working correctly?

In FM 2017 there was an option to choose RGB or CMYK in the PDF Settings. I can't find this setting in FM 2019 and my documents appear to be output as CMYK as the colours no longer look correct. The same file output as PDF from FM2017 with the option set to RGB looks correct in terms of the colour space.

Sorry about this question but I am a newbie to Adobe FrameMaker so, here goes -Let's say I need to create a software installation/user guide in FrameMaker. I need the output in various formats obviously - PDF, online help, and so on. Can an unstructured document created in FrameMaker be used to generate different formats or do I need to create a structured document using DITA/XML? Also, how does the formatting in structured documents work in FrameMaker? Any insights would be appreciated. I am currently getting the hang of DITA, and it sounds more practical to use it since my current and future projects call for it. 

Hello fellow FrameMaker users! We recently started using FrameMaker 2015 (32-bit) and have run into a strange issue. Our once previously conditional tagging pattern to use bold for row coloring in FrameMaker 8 is now rendered as a cross-hash pattern in FrameMaker 2015. When we try to print the book showing the conditional colors, it is immensely slow. Adobe has recognized the issue as something to do with how the hash patterns are stored for production purposes. Did anyone else encounter this issue? Did you find any workarounds to print while showing the colors? Did you have to change how your colors work for this?

I am getting a display error on the initial screen.and I am getting the 15004 error trying to enter the preferences menu.   as well as an initial error trying to either install or uninstall.

Hi All,I open 2 books and save to dita I get memory leak.Does anybody know how to remove objects of opened fm files and books.As might clean the memory ?
