FrameMaker

Ok Hi at first.I made myself a script that copies a selected document in a book to the save of the book and replaces the old one in the book with the copy. So i don´t change the Standard.Most of my dokuments have a lot of text insets in it.And here is the problem. Unfortunatly when the document gets copied it changes the text insets sources to a different location near the new save.Is there any way to tell the inset that the source is fix and not depending on the save location of the dokument?Thanks for your help.PS maybe i could change the script so that it doesnt copy the file but opens and saves it in the new location. Maybe this works.

Hello all,Scenario:Existing manual that needs many changes.Source provided will be copied from a Word document into existing FM files.The word document has paragraphs that are in Times New Roman.  The FM files are in Arial.What I've been doing up to this point, is copying a paragraph at a time from the Word document into the FM file, then changing the font for the paragraph.Question - is there a more efficient way?Many thanks in advance.Ben

Hello,I am facing a strange issue while converting Ditamap file to Book file.I have created a Ditamap file as shown in the following screen:One particular XML file (highlighted XML file in the screenshot)which is used as chapter's main page, when converted to Book, is not getting converted to a folder. Except for this file, all other XML files are fine as shown in the following screen. All the other XML files which are used as main chapter pages are getting converted to folders. Because of this group formation (Group 1 in the above screenshot), the whole hierarchy and the chapter and topic numberings are getting affected. I am using the option Save Ditamap as Book 2017 with components while converting Ditamap to book. Right now, I am using a workaround where I am deleting this group, inserting a new folder, linking the appropriate FM file to the folder to get the hierarchy right. Yes, this is a cumbersome and annoying process as I have to follow this cycle in each product release.I don

I have four books (Volumes 1-4) which contain cross-references (e.g. Volume 1 contains cross-references to Volume 2 Section 11). I am testing a master book containing the four book and seeing if the cross-references will remained hyperlinked but I won't know the result until tomorrow morning (each volume is almost 1000 pages containing hundreds of graphics) but I suspect the hyperlinks will remain intact. What is desired is that each Volume is a stand-alone file contained in the same folder. Is there a way to either generate a single PDF file of each volume when structured into a book? I did try the generate as individual files check box and what that did was generate each file inside each book as a stand-alone PDF which is not desired and did not complete the process. The other thought is maybe I shouldn't be using cross-references. I can control: folder name the PDFs are located in and file names. Is there a way maybe I can "name" a spot in the text and then generate a URL? That migh

I work in a technical publication department as a system admin.  A case has come up where a customer is going to take over the authoring of their own manuals.  Giving the current authoring systems incompatibility (Legacy XPP) with the destination authoring system (Customer uses FrameMaker) I need to ask the subject question.  I don't know anything about FrameMaker.  However, we regularly generate PDFs and make extensive use of Acrobat Pro.  I'm looking for a transition path and I'm thinking that since PDF is a creation of Adobe, I'm wondering if FrameMaker can import and edit PDF files.  As I said, I know nothing about FrameMaker so I may be WAY off.  I've done a bit of searching in this forum and perused the programs features but I only found information for creating PDFs.Thanks in advance,Stan

Guten Tag,habe meine FM 2015 auf Windows 10 installiert.Nach dem ersten Start habe ich in den Voreinstellungen meine Auswahl getroffen (Mit / ohne Backup, Strukturiert etc.).Hat aber nix genutzt, bei jedem Anstarten verhält sich FM wie beim ersten Anstarten.Wie kann der Fehler beseitigt werden?Schon jetzt besten Dank an alle für Eure Hilfestellung.

Is there any way to update xref's in a ditamap without opening individual dita files?

1. I am using FM 9 and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. Operating system is Windows 10.2. Last week,  FM files would no longer convert to PDF. I did some research and it seems that the latest update to OS10 created this problem. I was given a temporary solution that worked: uncheck the Convert CMYK Colors to RGB box.  My first question is whether anyone knows if this bug is being addressed. I cannot find any indication on the Web.3. The next issue arose several days later and I'm not sure if it's related to the one above. When I try to convert book files, I get the error message: Setting file read error in PDFX4 2008 Joboptions/Check compliance out of range. (see attached screenshot). Any idea of how I can deal with this one? I tried recreating the book and I tried reloading Acrobat. Neither worked. I have not tried reloading FrameMaker. Individual files will convert but not book files.Thanks in advance.Mark

Hi,We need to add standard text (Conventions, General Navigation, T&Cs and Copyright information) to our documents. These would typically range from 1 to several pages of content. We currenly use a Master Page to add the copyright information to our documents, but would like to use master pages to also add in the other information (we will be using Conditional Text as the content included depends on the document). Is there a way to generate these using Master Pages?Thanks,Quintin

Brand-spanking new version of FrameMaker 2017 installed, and on brand-new computer.OK, technically, 13-inch 2017 core i5 MacBook Pro w/ 16GB RAM, 256GB HDD, running macOS High Sierra, Parallels, Windows 10 Pro, and demo version of FM (to test, plan to subscribe). I increased the amount of memory available to Windows in the VM from the default 2GB to 6GB.Opening a book file created by a co-worker and copied to my machine, a book with more than a dozen .FM files and a couple hundred images in a separate images folder. Only issue on opening is some font-not-available substitution messages. Tried saving to PDF by:- Save As..., then selecting PDF- Save as PDFIn both cases, not more than 5 seconds went by before FrameMaker crashed. No error message or anything, just disappeared.So, any guesses? Does FrameMaker leave any kind of stack trace anywhere when it crashes for diagnostic purposes that I can review, and if so, where?

I have a little bit of space before my caution symbol (paragraph tag) and cannot reduce the size of the font so that the space goers away.  When I change the font, the font reverts back.  How do I get rid of the space?

When publishing documents using FM 2015 (and FM 2017) to all html formats on a Windows 10 computer, distiller no longer is activated so no images are being generated in the output from the files.The generate images using distiller check box is activated in the publishing settings.I have not experienced this issue before and is new since May 7th 2018 (the last time I successfully published files with images included), so suggests a recent upgrade to something is responsible.Any suggestions as to how this can be fixed?

My trial version of Adobe FrameMaker 2017 will not print my current files (I have been printing PDFs from Adobe FrameMaker 10 using Adobe Pro X (version 10.1.16) printer. And apparently my FrameMaker 10 has been hijacked because it will no longer print files on Adobe Pro X either. Baffled. Obviously Framemaker has the "keep with next" and "keep with previous" options in the Paragraph formats as well as the ability to control the minimum number of lines from a paragraph that show at the beginning of end of a page (widow/orphan lines).What I'm looking for is the same kind of functionality, except with paragraphs instead of lines.  I'm running into a lot of situations with nested lists and tables of contents where the "sub-items" will be separated from the "top-level items" when the text flows to the next page.For example:1) Top-Level Item2) Top-Level Item3) Top-Level Item   a. Menu bar missing Format, View, Special, Graphics and Table options for one picky .fm file? The complete menu of options (File, Edit, Format, View, Special, Graphics, Table, CMS, Window and Help) DO appear when viewing most .fm files, but for some reason DO NOT appear with the picky .fm file?

Whenever they open FrameMaker, they get the following error:Cannot initialize API client c:\program files(x86)\adobe\adobe framemaker 2017\fminit\plugins\RHFrameMakerServer12.dll.Check for errors in the APIClients section of the maker.inifile in FrameMaker install location or your %appdata% folder, verify that theclient program exists, and make sure you have enough swap space to run theclient.Any ideas as to how to resolve/prevent this?I have looked in the maker.ini and the referenced dll is not referenced.Thanks

Hi,Which function of FrameMaker handels the fm-reltable (inserting additional FrameMaker elements). Actually I couldn't find something like XSLT preprocessing ..... only some r/w rules but I supose that can't be all.Thank youRegardsApollo
