FrameMaker

I just installed Framemaker 2015 Trial, after a bios upgrade that rendered Framemaker 2012 unusable (it won't start and wouldn't after I tried several times to reinstall it) on my new Dell laptop. After failing several times, I uninstalled every Adobe product on the computer except Flash and Air and rebooted (also several times), and tried again - still won't start, for both fm 12 and 2015. Is there an installation procedure beyond just running Setup that I need to know about? If so, where can I get it? I'm a 15+ year user of Framemaker (7 or 8 versions, bought and paid for) and do nearly all my work on it, but this is getting very frustrating.David Stevens

I'm a long time Framemaker user (v 12). As of 3 pm Friday 8/5, FM won't start under windows 10. It shows up in the task manager but not on screen and it can't be used. This came after a simple reboot of the computer, that I do every day. I used it all day up until 3 pm with no problems. What could be wrong?

Hello,I am trying to setup a template where the first page is in a 2 column format but the columns are a different width (Left -> 18 pica / Right -> 16 Pica). When I try to do this in Format -> Page Layout -> Column Layout it moves the left margin in instead of changing the left columns width. Does anyone know how I can achieve the layout I need?Thank you for your help!Framemaker 13.0.1

The search didn't return anything, but I feel I'm repeating a question I've seen before … I can tweak the predefined system variable Modification Date Long to end up with a variable that shows {monthname year} in body text, but I can hardly approve of myself for doing so! is there no way to create a user variable that can use the date and time building blocks? I'm still on FM2012, and not likely to be upgrading for a while.

I just installed FM 2015 which says it has a 30 day trial for MathFlow, but clicking Special > MathML Equation... does nothing.  Do I need to get a trial license from Design Science?

Using FM2015 Publish to HTML5 Responsive. I'm writing documentation for programmers, which includes sections of source code. What is the best way to format in my FM doc so that it is published to HTML using the PRE tag (i.e. use the original textual indentation and formatting). Can I map a paragraph format in FM to output (publish) using the PRE tag in HTML?Thanks,-Ray

First, here is a picture to illustrate what I am trying to do:Given an ElementRange, I am trying to find the upper and lower boundaries of that range, as in the FP_LocY values (show visually in yellow). The upper value is easy, because I can get the top element in the ElementRange. But I am not sure the best approach for getting the lower value. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.-Rick

Hi everyone,I am working on a complex script to search and replace certain terms. In essence, it searches for the offensive term, shows it on the screen in the file and gives you a dialog box with a suggested edit. Everything works great, but when I'm processing a book, it doesn't pull up the found text range and display it on screen. If you run the script on just a single file, it works great and you can see the offensive term in context. But if you run it on the book and progress your way through the chapters, the file displayed on screen never changes. I know it's running because the display line at the bottom of the book window lists the file it's checking. It just would be nice for users to see the context of the offensive term.I've tried calling ScrollToText and Redisplay just after finding the term and neither have any effect. I'm guessing that the focus is on the book and that prohibits the focus to switch to the file?Any ideas or suggestions of things to try would be very much

We have problems with Fonts which are not available in FrameMaker although we have installed them in Windows Font Folder.

The question has been asked before (in 2013!), but is still marked unanswered. So, once again:I have a FM book, let's call it "Basics", which should include a lot of references to a PDF doc (which is NOT FM-based), let's call it "Supplement.pdf". When I print "Basics.book" to "Basics.pdf", I can add so-called deep links from "Basics.pdf" to "Supplement.pdf" using Acrobat DC. No Problem with that, but when I update "Basics.book" and have to produce "Basics.pdf" once again, all the linking gets lost, of course.So, all I want to do is place these links in the FM documents included in "Basics.book" and propagate them to "Basics.pdf". According to a sample table entry on the Adobe FM web help, the gotolink syntax of FM should support named targets. Is there a way to make text wrap or insert a carriage return in a side-head? I have a paragraph format with an autonumber format that is two words, 15 characters total, and a side-head alignment. The text does not wrap, it just overlaps. I'm sure there's a way to make it wrap, but I have not been able to figure it out or to find anything by internet search. Has someone run into this before who can help me fix it?

I can insert the cross-reference using Special - Cross-Reference and "Source Type: Paragraph" but then when I click on "insert," the Source Type changes to "Cross-Reference Markers"  which I don't want to use.  Why is it changing?  This happens randomly, and I haven't figured out any way to use only Paragraphs as the source type for cross-references.

I am using the framemaker2015. when I open the book.file, it shows the structure like that: NoName, containg several Book- Components, corresponding to several sections of the book. Meanwhile, the red line occurs in the structure. But when I only open the fm.file of the book, it does not show any sturcuture. Can you help me to solve this problem?

For example @figid is for <figure>.If this is a read/write rules issue, I can't figure out what it is. I think the search for this forum must be broken. Surely there have been questions over the years that use the term "override."Anyway, every time I switch from a certain master page to the body, I get the message asking if I want to maintain the override. I have looked and looked and cannot figure out what on the body page is overriding the master page. How can I find out what Framemaker is choking on? I'm using FM 12 in Windows 7.Thanks!

Framemaker 12:- I have set up an EDD with Context paragraph formatting. When importing into my document, the Log file displays two messages:-Referenced font weight (12pt) does not exist. Property was not imported.Referenced font weight (14pt) does not exist. Property was not imported.I have looked in my font directories and the font families are there (I tried Arial and Calibri). In the Framemaker size drop-down, 12pt and 14pt are displayed. In another context rule, 18pt Calibri was specified and that worked OK.Can anyone advise me how to resolve this?Cheers,Graham

FrameMaker 2015: I am unable to generate anything from the "DITA > Generate DITA-OT output" menu command.First problem was that trying any of the three output options in the Generate DITA-Output menu produced a command window with this error:Unable to locate tools.jar. Expected to find it in c:\ProgramData\Adobe\CS5\lib\tools.jar.Buildfile: c:\Program Files (x85)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker2015\fminit\ditafm\DITA-OT\build.xmlI had no c:\ProgramData\Adobe\CS5\lib folder, but found a "\lib\tools.jar" file in my Java directory, and copied the "lib" folder to the location that FM was looking for.That at least made that error message go away, but produced a log file with this error:BUILD FAILEDC:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker2015\fminit\ditafm\DITA-OT\build.xml:113: The following error occurred while executing this line:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker2015\fminit\ditafm\DITA-OT\plugins\org.dita.base\build_init.xml:99: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: org/dita/dos
