FrameMaker

Just started using Framemaker again for a new contract and client has Framemaker 2012. Is version 2015 backwards compatible to this version?

I have several tables (1 column and 1 row) with the "Title" value "Below table" in the table designer. I import images to these tables (import file > import by reference) and resize them using anchored frames. When I publish files as responsive HTML5, the space between the image in the table and the table title is different every time. 5 tables, 5 different spaces. If the title is "above the table", everything is OK. I think this is an FM bug. Has anyone have such an issue?

I have a customer who need to clean up a big bunch of old documents. The trouble is, they have been made with heaps of conditional text and a stylesheet which has gone haywire.What is the best procedure to clean out all conditional text? I have tried doing a search and replace, where I searched for condtional text and replaced it with text, but that deleted big chunks of the document. Is it possible to somehow remove on text condtions and "flatten" the document?Best regardsBjørn

I have a table with two columns.In column 2 I have a bulleted list.At the end of a bullet in the list I place an anchored frame that is positioned 'Below Current Line'.I want the anchored frame to extend to the left so that it lays 'over' columns 1 and 2 (I will have a text frame within the anchored frame, and a table inside that text frame, but to simplify this question, the contents of the anchored frame are irrelevant).If I align Left, the anchored frame 'snaps' to the separator between columns 1 and 2, which is no good because I need to extend over into column 1. (Note: the separator is visible.)If I align Right, the frame 'snaps' to the right edge of column 2, and the edge no longer appears (hidden by the frame). I can't figure out any way to make it not obscured (have played with all the anchored frame/object settings, but can't find a solution.)Now.... if I align Center, the anchored frame is centered in column 2. We have updated our FM11 templates to include a new font. Is there a way to import the new font from the template to an existing doc to change the paragraph tags to the new font? Using Import > Formats > Paragraph Formats from the template to a chapter file in the existing doc does not seem to work.

Hi Everyone,Every time I try to open a 1.2 General Task dita topic, it asks me to select the structure, between 1.2 and 1.3, yet if I were to use and reopen a 1.3 General Task, it doesnt do this.This makes it impossible to convert Ditamaps into books because Framek doesn't know how to open the 1.2 general task topics. Anyone run into this?Thank you!

Hello,I am working a document comprised of many page-width charts separated only by 2-3 empty lines.While adjusting spacing on the page, at times I remove too many empty lines between charts, to where there remains only a single empty line between them.The makes the page look very neat but sadly removes any insertion point from within that single empty line, thereby barring me from re-entering another empty space or two between the charts if I desire.I have tried insertion point placement shortcuts to no avail.To illustrate, when the cursor is located above the whole mess, then "Beginning of the next paragraph" shortcut is employed, the cursor jumps past both 'joined' charts. From that point on, the cursor only hops to before the first chart or after the second chart, and I no longer have control of the spacing between the two charts.Any suggestions?  Thank you for your time.

I've currently got TCS4 on Win 7 and am being upgraded to a yet unknown Windows platform on another laptop. I'm wondering if it's a simple task to transfer all of my RoboHelp  projects from one pc to another without having to re-enter or re-set up things like customized skins, colors, buttons, variables, etc.After re-installing TCS on the new pc, can I just copy/paste all files from one pc to another and pick up where I left off?(If so, would the necessary files to transfer be contained in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 10\RoboHTML?)dan

I accidentally made a book file view only. I followed the instructions in the Help, but they don't work. I selected the file in the book view. Then, pressed Esc Shift f l k but nothing happens. The instructions say I should see a menu, but I don't. After pressing the key combination, the book file remains view only.

Hi all,I am in a bit of soup actually. I, in a fit of carelessness, overwrote an FM file and saved it. It cannot be undone now.Sometime before this event, I had created a .ps file to distill it to a PDF; so now I have only a PDF file and a .ps fileQuestion:Is it possible to salvage anything from the .ps file? if so, how?

I have some technical documents that I created in FrameMaker 5.5 back in the late 1990's. My question is: if I download the newest version of FrameMaker (2015) will I be able to open these old .fm files and save them as .fim files?  When I called Adobe phone support I was told that you can't open FrameMaker 5.5 files with the current version of FrameMaker.  Can someone confirm whether this is true? I also noticed that you can download trial versions of older versions of FM, such as 11, 10, 9, 8, or 7.2.  If I downloaded one of these older versions of FM would I be able to open my FM 5.5 files?As I side note, I am running Windows 7 64-bit operating system.  I have the original FM 5.5 application disk, but can't install it on my machine...probably because FM 5.5 was designed for 16-bit operating systems (?).Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me retrieve my FM 5.5 files.MM

The bottom portion of the window, where the buttons reside, is not viewable. How can I change this?

I've inherited a document with a ton of long tables, and I need to apply Keep With Next Row frequently. Is there a way to keep the Row Format dialog box open so that I don't have to go to the Table menu every time? Thanks for any help!

(FM12 on Win7)I see surplus end-of-flow indicators, on otherwise blank pages, appear in the middle of .fm files.Format > Page Layout > Pagination > Before Saving and Printing is set to Make Page Count Even. This is a requirement for publishing.But I expect extra pages at the end of the file, not the middle.The files use many insets and some conditional text. At one point, they had nested insets, but not now.Scratching my head about this one. Best regards,

I'm utilizing Heading Paragraph Tags but I don't know when to use "HeadingRunIn".It's only mentioned in an existing thread involving XML and I'm using non-XML Structured.Could someone provide a quick response?

We are using FrameMaker 12 on a Windows 7 64 bit system.Say someone created a paragraph style and misspelled its name.For example: Boddy Text instead of Body Text.What's the best way to fix it in the template, and then apply the change to dozens of chapters that use it?Way 1: Open each chapter and correct the misspelled paragraph style manually.Way 2: Fix it in the template, then use File > Import > Formats. The problem is that it adds the corrected style as a new paragraph style, and does not apply the new style to anything. So, all instances of the misspelled style would have the style with the corrected spelling applied manually.Does anyone have a third way to do it that automates the process?Thanks in advance.

I'm currently looking into styling FM 12 Responsive HTML output and perhaps there are some minor release mismatches between FM12 and RH-2015?I can import a style <name>.slz (generated in RH-2105) just fine, but there are some hickups in the generated html using FM > Publish.Like browser not loading content due to syntax errors. Oops. Q: Should I expect a screen-layout style (.slz) from RM-2015 to work when used with FM12?  I tested this with the "Azure_Blue" .slz example distributed with RH2015.I notice that the online www gallery of style examples you land on (both for FM and RH) if you click the "Check for new screen layouts" is the same for both products, i.e. -> RoboHelp screen profiles and layouts‌ - So I assume Adobe intends for them to be inter-changeable?Looking at the FM publish settings-file (.sts) it seems this file is a ZIP and inside this archive there's your .slz file which also is a ZIP containingthe css layouts etc, but it's not really documented as far

Can Framemaker be set to display font size in millimeters or inches?  We are trying to update a document to meet UL Certification and they have text heights listed in millimeters.  I can find a conversion online, but if it could be done in Framemaker that would be a lot easier.

Just opening the publish pod via File -> publish destroys the database connections that I have established in my FDK framemaker clients. Has anyone experienced anything similar?Does the Framemaker 12 publish functionality have any documentation or configuration?I can't see how just opening the pod without actually performing any publish operation could have such unfortunate consequences.

Does anyone have experience with publishing online help systems to a salesforce community (force.com site)? Our support site is hosted within a salesforce knowledge community. I'm coming up empty handed when searching for an app that allows me to embed my online help within my community portal. I have cross references to "numbered" paragraph tags.  In the document, the lines with numbered tags have a right parentheses marker after the number.  When I make a cross reference to these items, the parenthese is included.  Is there a way to exclude the prarentheses in the cross referenced item?Thank you in advance,Bill

aaaaaaaargh …… Just received a document with a number of diagrams that need updating: imagine my distress at discovering they are OLE links to Visio files … I do have Visio, but absolutely no idea of how to open the diagram that I see in my FM10 document in Visio. Is this remotely possible, am I better off saving the document as .pdf and trying to rescue the graphics with Illustrator, or is there some better approach I haven't thought of?Thanks in advance!
