Using the XML Author portion of Framemaker 12 (code view) and validating to a Navy IETM DTD. Occassionally when I open the xml file in Framemaker and add another element such as a para, when I type the closing > of the para opening tag Framemaker does not automatically insert the ending tag (</para>) and states "the element 'para' has invalid child element 'para'. If I manually add it, it removes the ending tag from the next para element below it and messes up the xml file. I have to undo or close without saving. Does anyone know why this would happen. The DTD has relative reference to a parent directory on win7 laptop. Sometimes it works fine and other times it does this quirky thing. Thanks.
I've tried to set up new paragraph styles using the Paragraph Designer. I input all of my parameters and click APPLY. When the dialog box appears, I tell it to add the new style to the catalog and apply it to the document. All's well with t he world. However, when I click on the new paragraph name in the Paragraph Catalog, the paragraph reverts to some default setting. Now I'm hating life. Anyone else had this problem? Know of a fix?
Hi,I’m looking at Thai in FrameMaker 2015 and while there are no issues with the text displaying correctly, I’m having trouble with the formatting. The text is not wrapping at the end of the line. Where there is a space indicating the end of a sentence, if the next sentence is too long to fit on the line, it gets knocked down to the next line rather than breaking somewhere in the middle, which is leaving large gaps in the paragraph. Any suggestions as to how to stop this from happening so that the text wraps normally or is this not possible? I know that the line endings may not be grammatically correct if the text wraps but we have a workaround for that part. Many thanks,Kate
In a doc I inherited, they have a small graphic/icon in the upper right or left of the page, as part of the header. The running header is fine sometimes, but other times it overlaps with the icon.I'd like to narrow the running header so it does not overlap with the grahic icon, but I have had trouble figuring out how to do that.
Opening a long-ago document from a former colleague, I find a few minor inconsistencies; specifically, a couple of styles with the wrong language setting. Before rolling up my sleeves and correcting them via mif, I thought I'd experiment with Search options:Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to locate any of the content with language set to US English. Am I hoping for too much, or have I missed something in setting up the search properties?
Hello Everyone,The Leading Dots appear for "Heading1TOC" but not for "Heading1BreakTOC" when the table of contents is generated. The same is happening with "Heading2TOC" having leading dots and "Heading2+TOC" not having leading dots. Does anyone know why? All the Tab Stops settings are exactly the same for both. This repeats through the entire Contents in every chapter. Usually impatient, I just manually insert a "Tab" to generate the dots but it would be nice if I could expand my horizons and understand why.
How can I change a FrameMaker V12 or V11 document back to V10?
I need to hide a column as a test; it's possible we'll display the column in a later version of the document. FM won't let me conditionalize it. Maybe one of the wizards here knows a way . . .
I have a large document with lots of images that was created with FM 5.5 and I need to update it to a Version of FM that will run on Win 8.1 & Win 10?I have access to XP , so if unable to jump directly to a current verion maybe an intermin version that runs on XP and then to current version?Any suggestions? Thanks
How can I disable using JavaScripts in PDFs saved with "save as" option? PDFs printed out via postscript and distiller are without JavaScripts. The PDFs that contain JavaScripts fail the pre-flight print process so we need to find out how to disable all JavaScripts in PDFs even if Save as function is used for generating PDFs.Thanks,Peter
It mostly happens when we apply masterpages to the whole book.It doesn't happen always and I can't reproduce it in a consistent manner. It's costing us precious time and money...I'd love for some help with this.
Hello fellows,I am writing an extendscript that is supposed to loop through all pgfs and find all characters/strings with a certain condition applied (let's say, Comment). The problem is that in the scripting guide, I could not find a function that retrieves the condition property of a character. I tried using the JS "charAt(i)" function, but it does not seem to work in ES. Any idea how to implement such a function?Below is the 1st draft of the script.var doc = app.ActiveDoc;if doc.ObjectValid() { checkCondFMt(doc);}else{ Alert("No section open");}function checkCondFMt(doc) { var pgf = doc.MainFlowInDoc.FirstTextFrameInFlow.FirstPgf; var CondObj=doc.GetNamedObject("Comment"); while (pgf.ObjectValid()){ &
Good morning everybody,I have a licensed copy of FM12 structured installed on pc; now that pc crashed and I need to re-install FM12 on other new pc:My question is from where can I donwload FM12, as in Adobe web site only new release FrameMaker 2015 seems available ?thanksAntonio
Copied a graphic from Corel Designer X6 and pasted into FrameMaker 9 doc. All instances of character combinations "fi" and "fl" get converted to "?" (all without quotes). Tried changing font from the default Helvetica to several others including Tahoma and Arial, with same results. Pasting graphic into Word does not suffer same problem. What is wrong with FrameMaker???
In the webhelp generated FM9 and webworks, the search term added in the search tab does not show the result. It appears only after the GO button is clicked 3 times. I want the search result to appear after the first click.
I have been using FrameMaker 7.1 for roughly ten years on Windows XP and 2000 platforms. I have just moved FrameMaker to Windows 7, and when I try to access my documents, I get dialogues indicating that my original fonts can't be found and that the documents have unresolved cross-references. I suspect a compatibility issue. Do I need to upgrade to another version of FrameMaker? Or is the another workaround?
We have a large collection of PDF files served from the web. We rely on a lot of links from one PDF to another. Unhappy clients began calling us to report broken links after the May 12 security updates to Reader 10, 11, DC.This is what happens:Open PDF#1, our menu that has a bookmark to open each of our manuals.Click a bookmark to open PDF#2.PDF#2 opens. Any links or bookmarks in PDF#2 that should open PDF#3 (or any other PDF file) are broken. This is not dependent on browser or browser version. We can recommend that our clients return to pre-May 12 versions of Reader but that is only a stopgap measure, not a real solution. (Reader 9 still works beautifully but security concerns will keep people from going there). I am concentrating on a fix in Reader DC that will let our clients use our PDF files the way they were meant to be used.Adobe's multi-pronged support approach (forums, forums, forums) keeps me from contacting anyone at Adobe in person. I submitted a bug report, I posted in the

I am creating a guide for a product. I want to add some JavaScript code snippets in my documentation. Is there a way to auto format the code and properly indent it in frame-maker 11.
Hello,I am importing tables into a document on open. I have multiple tables, and each time the document is opened the tables are reimported from directory. The problem is that the page breaks, which sit between the paragraphs containing the tables are also being removed and I need them to stay.I have tried the following in the import params> i=GetPropIndex(importParams,Constants.FS_FormatImportedText); importParams.propVal.ival=1; i=GetPropIndex(importParams,Constants.FS_RemoveManualPageBreaks); importParams.propVal.ival=0;but this doesn't seem to be working.Any help appreciated. Thanks!Tracey
Hi there,I have received a FM 10 document from a translating agency. They claim it is the only file they received from their client. Here are few things I am fighting to solve:A. The document is supposed to have running headers. They are defined as Variables (<$elemtextonly[Heading(GraphicsPage),Heading(Intro),Heading(Chapter),Heading(Index),Heading(Appendix),Heading(Notes),Heading(Glossary)]>)The only problem is that when I look at the paragraph designer or catalog there are no styles such as Heading(Intro), heading(Chapter) etc. etc. etc.Despite the fact that I've created those styles the running headers do not update. Any idea? In fact, entire document is set to use a single paragraph style: Body. In different font sizes and Cases, but all document it is set to use Body, except for TOC.This fact brings me to my second question. Is there a way to Find/Replace a variable (an autonumbering variable) all over the document so I do not have to do it manually? That's why. Since all te
The FM12 licence we ordered last July has not yet been installed – don't ask; please don't ask: it's embarrassing and annoying and no wise my fault – and, consequently, I still haven't been able to book my training. So, I now find myself with a stack of compliant DITA files where I've really enjoyed developing structured content, and a requirement to publish them "looking like the existing documentation". One possible route seems to beopen .dita files in FM (structured interface, of course)discard structuremassage stylesscrew on happy professional smile and hand over results as familiarly handsome .pdfGiven this uninspiring scenario, what's the quickest way to discard the structure: all I remember from earlier experiments is that opening a structured file with the non-structured interface will do the trick, but I was wondering whether there might be any less cumbersome way.
We're not yet firmly entrenched in Robohelp 11, so I decided to go ahead and jump into TCS 2015. Unfortunately, only add-ons installed. The download appears to include two files: a single content 7z file and its corresponding executable (no applications). In the past, the download has contained a content 7z and an application 7z along with their corresponding executables. The content file always contained add-ons, so I'm not convinced the problem is mine or the installer. I think the package is shy two files, but.......I spent some time in a screen share with Adobe Support, and he eventually went away indicating that he needed to examine the executable. He seemed convinced that the files were correct and couldn't figure out why it wasn't installing the applications on my machine. I have yet to hear anything (this was early yesterday afternoon so we're closing in on 24 hours), and I've checked the download page to see if they've corrected this. No change. I would have expected a more im
FrameMaker 12 v 12.0.4, saving book as PDF "Adobe frameMaker 12 has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." The book updates just fine but stops as above when trying to save as a PDF. (Of course leaving all files locked) Any suggestions?
Has anyone else found this behaviour in Frame 12?My colleague printed a book using the File>Print method (NOT the File>Print to PDF menu option) and noticed that some of the chapters were missing - although they did appear in the TOC. He looked again at the Frame book and found that several of the folders within the Frame book file had been collapsed. It was the content of these which did not appear. Obviously the workaround is to ensure that all folders are expanded before printing, but we wondered if anyone else had seen this?
