I just took training in Adobe FrameMaker 12 and now I'm on my own machine and the interface is slightly different. For the most part this isn't a huge deal, but there's one simple feature that the classroom version had that I can't seem to enable on my desktop. In the classroom version, whenever I'd click on text, it would bold the active Paragraph Tag in the Paragraph Catalog. For instance, if I clicked on text tagged Body, the word Body would be bold in the Paragraph Catalog. If I have the Paragraph Designer up, I can see the tag changing over there, but not in the Catalog. Is there a setting somewhere for this to happen? I've looked through a bunch of options and view menus, but I'm not seeing anything that looks like the right setting. Thanks.
I am having an issue getting FrameMaker installed and working. When I install it, it says it failed to install, but the application is still on my computer. When I try to open it, it crashes as soon as the text FMPopUpMenu is on the launcher. Are there any logs to look at that will indicate what's going wrong here? This is a work computer and our IT guys have been baffled so far. I have a feeling that it's a permissions issue, but even if I launch the program as an administrator, it doesn't work.
Hi,I am using FM 10 in windows OS.For heading 1 in my document contains superscript and TOC also generated properly, but in the PDF cross-reference is not working.I inserted superscript element in the heading 1, apart from this I also tried to insert the superscript from the catalog still i am facing some problem with superscript and subscript in TOC.There are some posts related to the same problem but I could not find exact solution for the problem.Few of them provided solution w.r.t Unix system. If any one can provide me solution for the same it will be great! Thanks in advance Regards,Kishore
I am making a template and have a small issue I can't find the answer for.I have made a Paragraph tag called "Figure". It will start at 1 and go on as needed. However there are instances where we do a Figure 1 (Sheet 1 of 3), Figure 1 (Sheet 2), Figure 1 (Sheet 3). What building blocks do I use to automatically add the "Sheet number" and total number of sheets in the first occurrence Figure 1 (Sheet 1 of 3) then just Sheet X in the following figure sheets Figure 1 (Sheet 2), Figure 1 (Sheet 3).
I am trying to make a cross-reference that takes into account multiple levels of a step and includes those levels in the reference. In the example below I want to add a cross reference to 2. (b). to cross-reference step 1. (a). (3). But I want the reference to include all of the levels in the reference. So it would say See Step 1. (a). (3). (right now I am only getting the (3). to show up in the line.1. Blah (a). Blah Blah (1). Blah Blah (2). Blah Blah (3). Blah Blah (b). Blah Blah2. Blah Blah (a). Blah Blah (b). Blah Blah BTW this board has been awesome in its responses and help.
Hi, I hope you can help me, because I've run out of ideas... Trying to install the FM12 package. I have Office 365 and I know only the 2003 and 2010 are supported, but I don't need the plugin, I'd only use it for creating FM11-compatible .fm and .xml outputs. So, I open the downloaded file, the installer extracts and starts then it says that a dll is missing, and gives advices on how to proceed: restart, close all start-up programs and every other programs, then start the installer again. Done it, twice already...does not work, and on both occasions I encountered the same error. All ideas are welcome...!
FM-12.0.4.445 Online Help is sowmewhat screwed up:The top of the text overlaps with the heading stuff. If you close the left TOC pane with the left pointing triangle in the middle of the hight, ther is no means to get the TOC pane back:I need to close the help application. At the next start (and suficient width) the left TOC pane is available again.
Can anyone give me an example of how Span Pages should be set up on a master page? Do you type in the page numbers you want the master page to span? Does the master get applied to all pages that contain the paragraph tag specified, even if the pages are not contiguous?
I set up a master page table. One of the master page names is 'Comments' and a character tag also uses the word 'Comments'. I couldn't get FrameMaker to reapply the master pages until I changed the names and got rid of the term Comments. Then the master page table worked just fine.Is 'Comment' or 'Comments' someone a special word that FrameMaker won't accept?
Inserting new paragraph by placing the cursor at the beginning of a paragraph is reading the Next Pgf Tag setting and changing the existing paragraph's style. For example, consider that you have a Heading 1 and want to insert another Heading 1 above it. You used to be able to simply place the cursor at the beginning of the existing H1 and press Enter. Voila - two H1 paragraphs. Now when you do this, the existing H1 becomes Body style, because Body is the Next Pgf Style setting for H1. The same is true for any paragraph tag with a different Next Pgf setting. This is a change since FM8 (we just upgraded to FM12 last year), and I suppose Adobe thinks they made the setting smarter, but we find this behavior not at all useful. If there is a workaround to this (other than the obvious), we'd sure like to hear it. It's a small thing, but irritating. (And if no solutions, yes we will report this in the Bugs/Features area.)Thanks!
(FM12 to Documentum)The 2009 file set for emc-dfs-sdk-6.5 is working for me to connect to Documentum, check in files, check out files, etc. When I substitute the 2011 version of emc-dfs-sdk-6.5, I get the message "Failed to retrieve UCF id" upon attempting to check out the same file from Documentum.(Wait: EMC released different versions of the file set with the same version number? Uh, yes. So how do I know which version is which? I look in \bin\dotnet at DfsProxyGen.exe.I reboot the PC between changes of the file sets. Why does my FM12 client work with the 2009 version but not the 2011 version?Does the server need to change?Best,
FM12 never remembers where I put Pods, and I cannot find a solution in the Help.Is there a way to get FM12 to remember that I don't want pods nested, for example, or to not launch inside of the FM application window?
Hi,I have a superscript ® in a title in a document that needs to be brought in the Table of contents. When I do generate the TOC, I cannot keep the superscript format in the TOC.I could cheat and replace it manually, but there has to be a way it stays with those properties every time I regenerate the TOC.Any idea how?Regards.
(Using the SharePoint connector) I've observed that if I check out a file and also check out its dependencies automatically, and then cancel the checkout on the original file, the dependencies are all left checked out. Their checkouts must each be cancelled manually. Since there can be dozens or even hundreds of dependencies, this makes for a lot of work. It would be better if their checkouts were cancelled automatically along with the parent checkout.
Hello,I'm having problems checking frame files back in after I've made my modifications in Frame. The Checkout works without any problems but the Checkin tab is always greyed out.I'm using Frame 11 and SharePoint on a Windows 7 PC.Does anyone know what I can do to enable the "Checkin" button? Thanks
We're using the SharePoint connector. If someone else has a file checked out, I can see this by the red dot on the icon. But I can't tell who has it checked out. Is there a way to find out from the Connector?
Just got FM12 and find that simply clicking on the Conditional Text pod will crash FM. It's not consistent, so I can't determine exactly what steps cause it to crash. Also, sometimes clicking inside of the pod will cause FM12 to crash. This was the case also in FM9, so I was hoping that it would get fixed by now. Is there a work-around for this bug or is Adobe planning to finally fix this bug?
Hi fellow Framemaker users, maybe this has already been asked in the past but I can't find any answer on the net or I just don't understand it. I'm migrating from InDesign to Framemaker and am now copying content over from a ID document to a FM book. Some product names contain characters which have to be in italic. My plan was to copy the content from ID to FM, search the whole book for strings which should be in italic and apply a character format to all found instances automatically by means of the search/replace function. I'm a returning FM user and I've used FM 6 to 8 several years ago. I seem to remember that I did something similar in the past, but I just can't remember how.Could anyone please point me in the right direction? Maybe there's a plugin involved? It don't seem to see the wood for the trees... Thanks in advanceTom
Hello FM Community,Is there a problem installing two different versions (specifically, FM10 and FM12) on the same computer? Thanks in advance,Hani
Hi all,I would like to use the exact string of an attribute value as a property value when defining a text format rule in the EDD.Is there a way to get the attribute value by using a variable?---Example:This is a <font family="Helvetica">test</font>.I have an element "font" with the attribute "family". The value of this attribute is the name of the font family that I would like to use for the text in the "font" element. So in my example "test" shall be formatted with Helvetica.Of course I could use a context rule for every font family, like this:If context is: [family="Helvetica"] Text range. Font properties Family: Helvetica If context is: [family="Arial"] Text range. Font properties Fa
Hello fellows,What's the code for current insertion point (where the cursor is currently placed?)I saw code for adding text in the beginning/end of pgf but not at the current insertion point.Thank you in advance!
I'm tiptoeing towards a solution, but stepped on a thumbtack:The following snippet creates an error in the function GetTplParamsvar template = "DDD-BibFM-tpl.fm"; // located in script-dir var outFile = "DDD-BibFM.fm"; // located in the source dir oDoc = OpenTemplate (); alert ("Is template open now?"); function OpenTemplate () { var tplDir, tplFile, openParams, openReturnParams, oFile; tplFile = "E:\\_DDDprojects\\FM+EN-escript\\escript\\DDD-BibFM-tpl.fm" // SimpleOpen does not take the tplFile, but opens the dir of the active document // oFile = SimpleOpen (tplFile, true); openParams = GetTplParams (); openReturnParams = new PropVals(); oFile = Open (tplFile, openParams, openReturnParams); return oFile; } function GetTplParams() { // =>>> "undefined is not an object" on line 22 var params, i; // Cha
I'm not sure how to specify the initial settings for a user guide document. My user guide will contain 11 chapters, and each chapter will contain two levels of sections (Section and Sub-section). I would like to have a ToC and have an index at the end. I understand how to create paragraph tags and execute specific functions. Just not sure how to set up initial bounds of a document. Thanks!
I'm using FrameMaker 12 and Acrobat Pro XI. When I do a 'Save As PDF' from a book and select the bookmarks I want, and arrange their hierarchy etc. Acrobat includes paragraphs formats that I did not select. For example, it seems to include a random selection of TOC entries, which I DID NOT select to be included. I've gone back and double-checked that all paragraphs have the correct formats, but it keeps happening. Also, once I've generated the PDF, the PDF settings I chose don't seem to save correctly. In other words, every time I do a 'Save as PDF' I have to select the paragraphs formats I want to include as bookmarks again; it seems to have saved some of them, but not all of them.Any ideas?
How are this bracket-rules (brace-rules) working? One braceleft and two braceright? Where ist a braceleft necessary?ThanksHS
