Hi Arnis,I had read your previous threads on crashing when printing and also consistently crash/freeze upon generating a PDF in FrameMaker 12. It happened in FM 10, which is why we upgraded to FM12 thinking that would help. I had Patch 12.0.2 installed but it did not help and my book is only a few MB. One of my books was converted to PDF on another system but it took 30 minutes--not a reasonable response. I have tried printing locally instead of on the server, tried creating a Postscript file, saving as a book to a PDF format, and printing to a PDF printer. I have Adobe Pro version 11 installed.  Please help!

We have an instance using MIL-STD-40051 where we need to have a special page which contains X's around the border for an emergency WP, how difficult would it be to create such a page and if so can someone provide good instructions on how to do this? Attached is a sample of what we need to do.

I reached out about an issue with launching framemaker before with one of the support reps and tried the fixes given to me but those still did not resolve the issue. It was suggested to reset user files and have the program run at admin level as well but those fixes did not resolve the issue for the user running it. The user also wants to now use it in unstructured mode as well. Hey gang,Yes, I'm back with another question.  How do you show the current page number and next page number on the same master page?  Our style guide requires that blank page numbers be noted on the previous page, e.g., "2-1/(2-2 blank)".  Showing the current page is easy: <$chapnum>-<$curpagenum>.  How do I show the second page number?  I'm assuming it's some variation on <$chapnum>-<$variable>.  Thoughts?-terry-

I have created a User Guide using Framemaker.   The user guide is converted through Distiller to a pdf w/ bookmarks and Destinations. We have an Application Context properties file.   All of our users are able to go into our web application,  go to the desired, tab or site and click Help on Page, and  the user guide opens to the desired page.  It works for every user except one.  The user selects Help on Page and the user guide opens on the cover page.  I know that it has to be something related to the user's particular profile, it is probably related to Internet Explorer, but all of the settings seem to be the same.  I can't figure out why the Destinations are not working on her machine.  I have been trying to do research.  So far, nothing.  Please help. 

I am attempting to set the PDFDocInfo at the book and doc level.I can get the active book, get its props, and read and write to the PDFDocInfo. When I add book.SetProps( props ); to the code it crashes FrameMaker 11 or 12.I tried doing only:var book = app.ActiveBook;var props = book.GetProps ( );book.SetProps ( props );Simplest possible case, and the same with doc, it still crashes.Has anybody else seen this?Regards,Stuart

Hi,Whenever I open an existing Framemaker 12 document, it comes up as a blank page. Going into Print Preview and then back again gets the page to show, as does File - Save As.Using Windows 7 x86 Enterprise and Framemaker 12.0.2Thanks

Have installed TCS 3.5 with service pak, I believe. MS Office is now unstable. Hangs up whenever I insert a graphic, or start to insert a graphic. Are there any known conflicts with Word/Excel/Windows and Adobe TCS 3.5 products?

As a JavaScript Newbie (but not a newbie programmer!) I am finding it difficult to find out which JavaScript operators are accepted by ther ExtendScript Editor. I have the latest copy of David Flanagan's JavaScript Pocket reference (I never look in the Browser part of the reference) but frequently I find a useful command that is not accepted by the Editor. The lack of an appropriate reference is considerably slowing me up.

Hi,I encounter an issue with custom objects, I try to find Element with the function Find(). When I search Xref, row or known elements I get a valid Object. If a search for a custom element like here "RuleTemplate" I get an InvalidObject. We are using structured FrameMaker11 to generate tagged information in accordance with S1000D build rules, and after we created all our (newlink) targets, and then built the corresponding (gotolink) pointers in our table of contents, list of figures, and list of tables, etc., we tested each one in FrameMaker11 and they all seemed to work. However. When we made a print to PDF (with links) some of the links did not work in the rendered PDF. We could not see what we were doing wrong.One of our team used "CutePDF Writer" and all the links in the rendered PDF worked perfectly.What's going on, and how can we use our FrameMaker product to produce reliable PDF links? I'm using Frame 11 to format book chapters. Headings use an autonumber format to indicate successive sections throughout the chapter (i.e., 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, etc.). So headings have section numbers, but there may be multiple paragraphs beneath a heading that are not numbered (e.g., section 5.1 might have 3 paragraphs of text beneath it). I'm using markers to highlight citations within the text paragraphs in order to generate an alphabetical list of citations. But I want the citations in the list to reference section numbers instead of page numbers. Is this possible if every paragraph does not have a corresponding section number? In other words, will a citation in the second paragraph of section 5.1 show § 5.1 (i.e., defaulting to the most recent prior section number if the paragraph in which the citation appears does not have its own section number)? If this is possible, can someone tell me how to set that up? Thanks so much.

Starting out with a very clean, crisp 45" wide graphic saved from a PDF file, I copied the image into Photoshop CC 2014, re-sized it to approx 5.5" and saved it as a Maximum Quality:12 JPG. The reduced file looks great in my other applications too. I then imported it into FrameMaker 12. The image displays in Frame extremely blurry and also prints from Frame blurry too.  (Note that it doesn't seem to matter if I select "By Reference" or "Copy into Document" as I get the same blurred mess.) While I can view a clean and very crisp image in Photoshop, or Acrobat 11, or any other software for that matter, the image is looking terrible in Frame. What am I missing here?Thanks for your help!

Hi,I'm trying to auto number some of my headings. Ideally, I would like Heading 1 to have no auto numbering, Heading 2 to go by 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc, and Heading 3 to go by 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, etc.Is there any way to achieve this without having to auto number Heading 1?Thanks.

We are splitting one large mif with x-refs (so all point to Current) into sections of a document (copy part of mif into a file that is part of the book) and the references are lost. Is there a way to keep the references? I assume it meanspointing to a filename in the mif, which is good and bad, since the filename could change. Or can something be done in Extendscript?

Hi,They just installed Frame 12 on my Windows 7 laptop. When I first opened Frame, the graphics toolbar opened vertically. As I was moving it around, it accidentally jumped into the toolbar area at the top of the window and turn horizontal. After dragging it back into the empty part of the window, it stayed horizontal. I can't find any feature on the graphics tool bar to change it back to a vertical layout.How do I fix this?Yours,Michael F=======

With my ESTK script, users select model numbers from a list and then the script inserts an element with a model number entered into an attribute, one element for each model selected.When adding a large number of elements, each additional sibling element takes a little longer to add then the previous element. Adding 250 elements can take upwards of 3-1/2 minutes or more. While adding 20, 50, or 75 elements happens quickly, without any noticeable duration. It’s somewhere above 110 is where it starts to be noticeable.I even used $.hiresTimer and wrote the value to the console for each time a model was added. Since the timer is reset back to zero (0) each time it's called, it was easier to notice that the amount it incremented from one element to the next got progressively larger.Any thoughts as to why it’s taking so long or thoughts on what I could do to speed it up?The structure looks like this:<PartModels>      <NoteText>Text</NoteText> &n

I am running FrameMaker 12 in Unstructured mode. When I try to print a book (Unstructured) to a Postscript file, FrameMaker 12 crashes.I can print a individual FrameMaker document (Unstructured) with no problems.This behaves like the same FrameMaker 11 (Unstructured mode) printing problem that was fixed by patch 11.0.1.Any ideas?Will there be a patch to fix this problem in FrameMaker 12?

When converting a structured FM 11 file to RTF, FM freezes for a while, and when it's working again, the output is either a corrupted .rtf file, or FM crashes. The file we are trying to convert is over 200 pages long and has several images linked.Is there a way to convert the FM file to RTF and maintain some formatting? We have tried saving the file by extracting it from the PDF, but the output does not have any formatting to it.

Hello,I am beginner with FM. I am working on an existing catalogue. I cannot delete or select any of these 4 labels you can see on the page (google drive link) and I need to replace them by the french version. There are not in an anchored frame or on a master page. There was a "point pages" feature in FrameMaker that freezes the number of pages, and when revisions cause new pages to be added the new pages are numbered 1.a, 1.b and so forth. In other words, the original page numbers are not changed, and any new pages are numbered with the same number as the previous page plus a dot a, b, c.I tried "point pages" in FrameMaker 12, but it didn't work correctly and there is no documentation that I can find.Does FrameMaker 12 have such a feature? Is there a workaround?
