How can we add image caption in a Frame Maker document, as in a word document?I have created a style called Image caption, where the font is bold. But there is no image number. Manually, I have added numbers. But the drawback is that if I insert another image in between the existing paragraphs, then I have to update the image numbers manually. Please let me know, if there is a way to create a Paragraph style, so that Image numbers are also updated automatically.

Hello, I've installed FrameMaker 12 on a Surface Pro (Windows 8, tablet-sized monitor). When the preferences are set to FrameMaker 12 basic, the interface is displayed as it should, using the complete screen. But if I switch to a different flavor: FrameMaker 12 XML authoring, or FrameMaker 12  Structured, the interface shrinks to about half the screen making it utterly unusable as I can't see anything. I've set the monitor to default. This "shrinking" also occurs when I'm in the basic FrameMaker 12 mode and press the shortcut of F9 to get the list of paragraph styles. Is there a way to control this undesired behavior and have the GUI use the entire screen? Many thanks, Donna

Is there any way to import an SVG image into a FM document and use any text information in the SVG (on an extra "unlocked layer whilst all others are locked" ) interactively e.g. for referencing purposes or like a hotspot feature?

In FM 11, I need to format hundreds of figure captions in the format NN.  Figure Title; where NN is the figure number followed by a period, then two spaces or a tab followed by the figure title. When I make a figure number cross-reference the period after the Figure number should not be picked up. Does this mean I can't use the period in the building block. What is the most efficient way to format the figures. Thanks.

Hello ,I am trying to create a tab at the bottom of each page of a document which displays the first and last paragraph number on the page.My paragraph numbers are made up of the section number and a sequential number.On a previous project I have definitley created something that cross-references a final paragraph, I just can't remember how. Any ideas?

I am using Framemaker 7.1 and have created a Table of Contents for a book. When I open the PDF created for this book the links in the TOC go to the corresponding pages for the first few chapters but nothing after those works. In Framemaker when I use ALT+CTRL to try to test the link I get an error saying that it cannot find the files for the links that do not work. Does anyone know what causes this error? The files are in the folder and at the location it is looking for them. This has me stumped.

Why can't I use these features any more?I also can't use the Launch Photoshop or Launch Illustrator features. I use the Adobe Master Collection 6 for those products.Adobe Captivate is also grayed out.

After reinstalling the product it works fine for a period of time and suddenly this error appears again. what is the reason for that?I am working on Windows 7, FM 11.

I'm running FrameMaker 11 on Windows 7. I just changed the settings from unstructured to structured Frame and restarted my computer. Now FrameMaker comes up for a few seconds and goes away. Is there something I can do to get FrameMaker to launch?

In FrameMaker 10 , can you view non-printig marks?  In MS Word, you can show all paragraph marks and it will show the little dots between words, for exapmle.  Does FrameMaker have this?  (all I found was View Text Symbols, but that does not show the spacing marks).Thanks.

Hi all,We have an xDocbook structured app based on Frame 11 and Docbook 4.2.   It has been stable until the last week or so.  Here are the changes we made to the structured app recently:1. Added some functionality to the EDD including some Format Change Lists and attribute values, but nothing that seems major. The EDD validates and does not produce errors when its element definitions are imported into a document.2. Added support to the DTD for an equation element to be allowed inside a line element3. No edits to the rules. 4. In structapps.fm, we turned off "Try Alternative Extensions"5. In the template, we added or tweaked some styles.We retain our documents in XML and open them in Frame only to edit them.However, each time we open any document in Frame now, a NoName element wraps whatever the top-level valid element is, whether a <chapter> or <appendix>. I can unwrap it and the document validates using the Element | Validate feature.  I save and close

When I copy an inline element then sometimes the paragraph style is copied as well. The happens frequently when I copy a cross-reference. If the source context is a list then the target paragraph is formatted as list after I insert.This is quite awkward in a structured document in which the style should of course be ther result of the EDD, not manual formatting.Has anybody encountered this problem or do you know a solution?Robert

Hello,The first page of each chapter in a FM 11 book has a few cross-references to sections within the chapter.Each of these few cross-reference entries is preceded by a diamond-shaped bullet. They are all dark purple.I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change them to black. Our printer is charging color prices because of these purple cross-ref bullets. Hello,I've read the previous discussions regarding this issue and have not found any answers. I have FM 11 and Acrobat 10. I am not changing the source file after creating the tagged PDF but FM states that the source file has changed and insists on only placing markers randomly in the FM document instead of importing the comments. I work with multiple users and this feature would greatly help our team since converting from Word to Frame and back is nearly impossible. Please help!

(FM11 on Win7)The Compare Documents utility reports that the same file has multiple flows of the same name, and so does not compare the files. Doh!The report from the utility seems accurate.I see two end-of-flow markers in the file, one on the second page and another on the final page.The flow tag names of the text frames on the body pages are identical: BodyText.The AutoConnect box on each is selected.I still want to compare the files, so I try this:When I do View > Master Pages and then go back to View > Body Pages, FM says some body pages in the file override their master page layout.Do I want to override? I say yes.I go to the body pages. Everything looks the same.I try Compare Documents again. Same message.So how do I join those two flows, even though they apparently are already Autoconnected and have the same name?Or, as an alternative, how do gain the benefits of a Compare Documents operation in a file that contains two flows of the same name?Best regards,

Hi,I have had a few blue screens recently on my old Windows XP system with Frame 7.2 and 3 GB RAM.Now I see that my color palette is scrambled in one large manual. Only the basic colors are there and a long list of entries like RGB 017,013,010 are inthe palette. They don't do anything and I can't delete them via View > Color > Definitions.The manual is 482 pages, 52 MB, with scores of graphics and photos imported by reference.As a workaround, I copies the contents into a new file and that fixed the problem, but a few hours later, the color palette is corrupted again.Has anyone seen this before and is there a more sure workaround?Yours,Michael F

I'm currently checking if there is an easier way to automatically add <b> tags when changing font style to Bold in your xml. I'm not sure how to override the format  of a structured application automatically in FM. Do I need to create a script for this? Or is there any configuration that can be made to make this work automatically?

I need to track changes from draft to draft and would like to use different change bar colors for this purpose. Is this possible using FrameMaker? thanks in advance,

Hi all, I often work on my documents locally and then move them to the backup drive, then the other day move them to another workstation etc. Moving complete Books was never a problem.Working with FM12 I now noticed this error: When I open a document on another location than that where I created a cross-reference (to another document in the same book), then FrameMaker says it cannot find the file. In the error message, the former location is shown as absolute path. For example,when I was working on my desktop it displays the path C:\users\... etc. in the error message. However, when I open the attribure inspector the path stored in the href of the cross-ref is a perfect relative path that correctly points to the target in the same folder.Has anybody encountered this issue with FM12? How would FM even know the absolute path of a former location when only the relative path is stored in the href atribute?RobertP.S. I want to save a book to a single XML document. Is it correct that I can do this by adding an xslt to merge the standard framemaker entity type output ? Can I easily reconfigure the standard Save As XML to acheive this? or do I need to add a new menu item and call the XSLT dialogue...any advice appreciated.Thanks!

I am using FM 9p255. I am trying to put two paragraph styles in one line, one will go the the table of contents and the other will stay as body text. I saw something years ago and now I can't find it at all. Does this make sense or not?? Thanks for your help.
