InCopy

We are training for designers in a publisher, and am encountering a persistent error: we package the file to incopy (icap), edit the file in inCopy and return it to inDesign (idap). Each one on your computer, in this exact order. When returning in inDesign and clicking on "open package" the error "The story" appears xxxx.icml "in the package is no longer part of the assignment." The history was not updated. How do I want to continue? After this error it is necessary to overwrite each of the icmls files one by one (inconvenient).The problem does not happen on my computer: but it happens on some users computers (students of my incompany training). What could be happening? Why only happens on some computers?@AnneMarie Concepcion help me!!!!

How do I copy tracked changes from one InCopy document to another?

Hi,The magazine for which I am art director (and designer and production... all of the creative) decided we need to use InCopy. We're rounding out our second issue using it, and InCopy is a mess (much due to my errors, I assume). What training did designers use to master InCopy? Our team watched an out-of-date LinkedIn video tutorial. All of the examples shown were incredibly simple—nothing like a page with multiple captions, pull quotes, graphs, body copy. Nothing that might have a caption added after an Assignment was created. Nothing that felt like real-world art direction. Somehow, I'm holding the bag and I am frustrated (understatement). Adobe provides little to no support. I've also heard that InCopy has the lowest customer satisfaction rating of any of their products (a staggeringly low number).1) Did anyone find a tutorial that felt cohesive and answered most questions?2) Is InCopy viable? Thanks for any advice! 

HiIs there a way to open an Incopy Assignment file (icma) and export/save concent as for all the icml files in the icma file to one Rich Text Format (rft) file?Hoping someone can answer my question.

I want to cancel InCopy but have been told I must pay a fee for cancelling before the end of my subscription period - but I can't find anywhere that tells me when this period will end! Does anyone know

Hi! I'm so bewildered and cannot figure out what to try next. I'm working off a shared Dropbox server, and when I go to open an icma file, none of the text is showing up. Each assignment has a yellow triangle with the exclamation point, and when I hover over it, it says "Text content is out of date." If I try to update the text, this message pops up: "This is not a valid InDesign interface document" I've updated Incopy, restarted my computer, tried turning off synching (and turning it back on) and making the file available offline. I'm on a mac as are my coworkers, who are able to access the assignments just fine. The lovely ppl at the design firm we work with have tried reassigning the files, but it hasn't helped. No one has the file checked out or anything. I'm able to see the rest of the file — images — in the layout view. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!I'm really not sure what else to do! 

Hi, I'm new to inCopy and can't seem to find a solution for this: The situation: I need to modify a project's text in inCopy files (.indd) while offline, during a very long flight.Context: The docs are all stored in DropBox.The ask: How do I check the document out, take my laptop offline, work on the document, and check it back in when I land?The worry: If I must download the files locally before working on them and a teammate checks the docs out while I'm offline, is there a way to avoid the risk of uploading conflicting documents from two team members?  Thanks! 

Hello! I'm new to InCopy, so this may be a simple and common problem some face. After placing some Word documents into InCopy, I'm getting this strange box with an x in it at the beginning of each line in the galley and story views. I've tried changing the font of those views, checking to see that I've stripped any remaining styles from Word, and formatting the Layout view with styles to rule out any overrides, but that strange box remains. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

I'm setting the page size in document setup in InCopy to the size i need the author to see, it looks fine so i save and close then the next time i open it the size has changed back to the original A4 size, how can i stop this happening do you know?

The option "Send Package for" ... is not available. Neither for InDesign nor InCopy. Neither via email or ... Can you please help?

We are a team of 1 designer and several editors and are begining to use InCopy to improve workflow and efficiency. We want to make sure we have a sound workflow process. Previously, we woud save different versions of the INDD file, just in case there was a corrupt file, or if we needed to go back to a previous version of the file (the old school of thought: Save often and save multiple versions). I can still do that with the INDD file, but do you also do that with the folder of icml files in case our editors want to go back to a previous version?

Hello, I have a Macintosh user who is not able to check-in assignments within any file. They open the .icma file (or .INDD file) and are able to 'check out' a section of text, which creates an associated lock file in the local server share where the inDesign/InCopy files are stored. When the user makes a change and attempts to check them in nothing happens when 'check in files' is chosen. No error, no freezing, no indication that anything changed. If you close the program or otherwise check the file it doesn't have any of the changes made by the user. The only thing that 'works' is to cancel check-outs and this changes all the icons back the the 'globe' and removes the edit pencil icon. The inCopy is running version 17.3 which matches other software used in the environment and was reinstalled as part of this to no effect. Rolling-back to a previous version did not make a difference in function either. The data is locally stored on a NAS and this user has historically not had

Hi there, I am new to InCopy and I'm working on developing an InCopy/Indesign worflow structure for multi chapter book publications. Here is the problem I am running into. I have my folders structures built out to my liking, but when I open the InCopy editing file, it creates a new folder inside the main hub folder. I will share a video that shows exactly what is happening. Any idea what is going on? I can not move forward until I figure out this organization issue. Thanks!

When I try to export a PDF from InCopy, I get the attached error message.This happens with any file. I can export as text files, but when I try to export as an EPS file, I also get an error, this one saying:I've tried searching online but everything I find for this error is regarding InDesign, not InCopy. I don't know if it's related, but also lately when I open a file after restarting my computer, anything in Adobe Garamond Pro is highlighted in pink. If I go to Creative Cloud, the font is still showing as active, but it won't appear properly in InCopy files unless I deactivate the font in Creative Cloud & reactivate it.If I try to export a PDF before I fix the Garamond issue, I do not get that error. However, once I fix the Garamond issue, the PDF error happens.I usually end up having to go in a repeat cycle of deactivating, reactivating the font, opening and closing files, restarting my computer, until finally it will export a PDF without error, but it will only do it once,

Hi,When I have set Incopy to open in Layout View as default I can't use the navigation buttons in the bottom of the programme; change page, next spread, previous spread etc. The buttons are grayed out...I have to toggle between Galley View and Layout View to activate the buttons...Any ideas?

I have just embarked on using InCopy, and when I examine a file on the server for the publication I am freelance-editing for, I just see bars of color (in this case, Gold color) where the tracked changes should be. All of the notes/comments are clearly visible and readable. I am looking in Story View, and Track Changes is turned on. What could I be doing wrong? 

Hello,I am currently working with a user at our company who is attempting to set the user color from "Forest" to "Fiesta" by going to File->User... The problem is the new and old notes she has made on Incopy files we have saved to dropbox refuse to change to the Fiesta color and instead are all still Forest color for herself and anyone else who views the files.I have also checked under Edit->Preferences->Notes and the note color is set to [User Color], we also uninstalled and reinstalled the InCopy and the CC suite to see if it would help. Any help would be appreciated.  

My InCopy has updated to 2022 but when I try to open a file I am getting the message 'Error opening packaged file'. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and rebooting laptop and a new file was made but will still not open

Completely new to InCopy. Where is the documentation? I'd be happy just to find a tutorial showing the workflow basics, but I must be looking in the wrong place because I keep coming up empty.  Thanks!Bob

Il est peut-être utilisé par quelqu'un d'autre."Le menu "extraire" est grisé et je ne peux faire que consulter le document. J'ai travaillé sur ce fichier vendredi, j'ai enregistré tout le contenu, mais comme je comptais terminer aujourd'hui, je n'ai pas archivé. Les modifications que j'ai apportées vendredi ont bien été prises en compte, mais impossible de continuer à modifier.

We're a team of three editors and one designer working in InDesign/InCopy CC 2022 (all working in same versions).  I create the assignments in InDesign, then go through the correct paths, share them, and now they're randomly duplicating themselves, same prefix, added suffix. My InDesign file crashed a few times: Is this the culprit? Assignments panel asks me to Update All Assignments for no apparent reason: Is this the cuprit? Has anyone else run into this?Would appreciate any thoughts or experience with multiple iterations. 

We have collaborated perfectly with our client on a document, but suddenly have problems seeing the clients changes. We made an InDesign file with assignments in a shared folder on Creative Cloud Files. They've done changes in InCopy and I approve the changes in InDesign. At the final stretch, the client has some issues with accessing the document. I try inviting them again and after some troubleshooting they see it again. They continue with changes in InCopy, but now I don't see them on my end. They tell me the folder don't seem to be shared with me anymore. But on my end it seems to be shared with them. What has happened, and how do we get back on track? There's also appead a Story List.xml file that wasn't there before, but unsure if that is part of the issue. -Karl

Hello,My company has been using InCopy for a year now, but we are experiencing many issues that we are unable to rectify. Although the 30+ users are located in different countries we share the same server and this makes everything very slow. Affectations take a long time to extract or archive. We tried to put everything in Microsoft SharePoint but this created bugs and affectations were left open by the last user (despite the fact that this person was no longer in them and had archived them). Do you have a solution to make everything go faster? Do you offer a proper online server other than dropbox (which our IS department does not allow) that doesn't have this kind of bug? thank you

Hello,I am fairly new to Indesign. I am putting together a 96 page magazine and finding 'Pantone 492' duplicating eg Patntone 492 C 20.... I can't delete, also why is it say LAB rather than spot or cmyk?  When I click on the duplicates the breakdown of the colour is the same on them all, Will it print as that colour, you can easily change in quark, is there a way for Indesign. Desperate!!!
