InDesign

Hi,Just today InDesign crashed every time I select a table or portion of table and then do 'Edit, Copy'.  I've tried saving as .idml, trashing preference, different tables, different indesign files.  All to no avail.Any thoughts?InDesign CC 13.1 x64 on Windows 10

Obviously, I'm doing something wrong, or missing something. Windows 11, latest CC updates, trying to merge a .csv file with 306 names and addresses into a ID indd file as a merge. It's 2 columns, 17 pages worth on 6x9 pages. Any ideas where I'm wrong? 

I have a spread with a primary text flow on each page. They are connected (which we know, because InDesign does not allow primary flows on facing pages if they aren't). I have a one-page document (which, not surprisingly, starts on the right page). If I insert a page break and keep typing; or if I type a bunch of extra lines and then go up and insert a page break; or if I just add enough lines to overlow the page... InDesign isn't adding a new page. It's allowing it to be overset. Previously (including in the file I copied to start this one), InDesign added pages. Why would this suddenly cease to happen? All files are members of the same book, by the way.

My reg-ex fu is weak today: (I don't know what flavour of Regular Expression Indesign uses)I'm trying to find any lowercase laters that follow a colon. \:\s?[a-z]Works fine here But that finds nothing in my design document. Should match items in bold underlineBananas: thats and thatNote: Thisbut: not thatElephants: 1 or notAnnything:goes: Any ideas?  

Hallo liebe Community,  ich habe folgende Frage. Wenn ich in meinem Projekt im InDesign die Deckkraft bei Bildern oder Farbflächen verringere erhalte ich in den Bildern und Grafiken Linien die an einen Grundlinienraster erinnern. Beim PDF-Export verschwinden diese zwar aber im Projekt sind sie vorhanden. (Siehe Screenshot) Was sind das für Linien und wieso werden diese sichtbar wenn ich die Deckkraft verringere? Und wie kann man die Linien entfernen sodass die Bilder etc. sauber erscheinen?  Über Hilfe würde ich mich sehr freuen. Liebe GrüßeAlex 

For example, in the one below, I'm trying to find all the numbers at the end of the paragraph, and the numbers at the end of the article.(\d+(?=\r))|(\d+(?=\Z)) Individually it works, separately it fails.Is there a way to fix this?Is there a way that a character followed by null means it's at the very end. Must it be written as two sentences?Sometimes it's inconvenient.

Hi Team,I'm encountering an issue with InDesign's Find and Change All functionality that impacts text formatting.Scenario:I need to search for a specific pattern and apply replacements across the entire document. When I perform the replacements one by one, everything works perfectly, and the original formatting (such as bold and italics) is preserved. However, when I use Change All, it breaks the formatting and causes styled text to lose its appearance.Even in a simple scenario—where we are not modifying the content but just replacing the matched string with itself—the formatting still gets affected. Example:Find What: ([^~a\r\n]+)Change To: $0Before: After: Looking forward to your suggestions or a possible workaround to retain the formatting while using the Change All function. Thanks in Advance,Muthu Veerappan

Isn't that weird?

Hi everyone, I have an issue and I have no idea how to solve it! (And never had this before..) Actual state- I create my file in an A5 format, when it's a double page opened the size is an A4. - I added bleed and slug for the printer ProblemWhen I create the exporting file from the booklet option I can see, on the preview the future view that I want, so everything is going fine, BUT when I open it in Adobe Acrobat, I have a kinda A4 view that cropped all my content. In design     Adobe    No matter if I am trying to change the format from the print production tools, the content of my file is completely cropped.  I am wondering if I am missing a setting into the booklet exportation for a final format or anything else. But now I am completely blocked by this issue.  What I want to have:I would like to have either:- A file with bleed marks(but not inside, because of the binding) in the classic order-

HelloI don't know how I ended up getting this, but every text box in my InDesign project got a blue background color:I couldn't remove it after checking through the View and Window menu options — nothing seems to have changed.It would be appreciated If someone could tell me how the box can be removed.Thank you in advance.

Hello, I am exporting a book to EPUB. Before I did so I opened the style source document and ensured that all paragraph styles had a unique class name under "export tagging". Then I synchronized the book and tried to export it to EPUB. Ich will ein interaktives PDF aus Indesign (ID 2025) erzeugen. Die meisten Felder funktionieren, nur eines macht Sperenzen:Ich habe es als Kombinationsfeld angelegt.Das Ereignis ist "Bei Klick"Die Aktion ist "Schaltflächen und Formulare ein-/ausblenden"Die Aktion ist Druckbar, nicht schreibgeschützt, nicht erforderlich und die Elemente sind nicht sortiert.Die Listenelemente habe ich zuerst in einem Textrahmen in 3 Zeilen mit hartem Umbruch eingegeben, dann diesen Gesamttext kopiert und als neues Listenelement eingefügt.In Acrobat Pro sieht das gut aus, aber in Acrobat Reader verlieren die Listenelemente die Umbrüche. Was kann ich tun?Ich habe versucht, den 3-Zeiler als Tabelle zu formatieren, das geht nicht.Ich habe statt einem harten ein weiches Return eingegeben, das ändert nichts.Ich habe beim Export des PDF die Option "Struktur für Aktivierreihenfolge verwenden" ausprobiert, leider ohne Erfolg. Mehr fällt mir grade nicht ein.

Sorry to be curt, but why are tables so terrible? How is it that the market leading software package in layout design has such awful table functionality?It's so haphazardly put together - you have to click very carefully to navigate around the table, depending on whether you wanted to type in a cell or just select it, the tools for adjusting the appearance of cells, columns etc. are so difficult and unintuitive to use, and the greatest insult is that if you happen to be inside the table window, but not in a cell, and you type a letter (like, I don't know, if you were planning on using the keyboard shortcut to select another tool), you actually type a letter into a line above the table, shifting it down a bit. Who on earth thought this was acceptable? Are tables just elaborate text boxes? Is that how this happened?Why is it not possible to simply click one or two buttons to make all your rows or columns have a uniform width/height? Why, when I adjust the width of a column, is there not

Hi. I'm testing using the Multi-Find/Change plug-in in my documents to apply about a dozen queries in one go. But there's one stage I've been doing manually which I can't figure out how to represent as a GREP or query, meaning I can't include it in the set of queries to apply.Basically during the process I'd select the first line of text, and right-click on the appropriate paragraph style and select 'Apply "xxx" style then next syle'. How can this be represented as a query or GREP please? Or even apply first style then next, as I know the name of the style would need to be specified somewhere. Thanks!

Hi, I have 220 page, 6x9 softcover book, mostly text but some pics and the proof back from the printer shows the text is 2 or 3 characters outside their yellow line margin, pretty much on all pages. The printer gave me this answer when I questioned whether it would be safe to print.. I have had a scan through as the text elements are only slightly beyond the safety margins they should still be seen once printed. The text is at most a few letters over the safety margin and as everything is still a good distance away from the magenta trim edges there shouldn't be any issues.  I am still a little worried so would like to get it all correct.What is the best way for me to make the margins better so the text is all inside please? Thank you    

At first , I thought it was a conflict with other software, but I closed all other software several times and it still didn't fix it.At first,  it was fine, but after some time of use it failed.When you restart the software again he is fine again.It seems to happen a lot since version 19.4, but "V" and "ESC" work. Anyone interested in helping to try it out?

I have a map that gets updated by location. I've been asked to make the locations alpahbetic and whenever a new place gets added it messes up the structure. Is it possible to link these locations below to the numberical points on the map, so that it will keep the format structured after editing? It would save me a lot time in future  🙏 

I have a series of paragraph styles and character styles. When i go to create a new text frame, it defaults to a specific paragraph AND character style. I don't know why it started doing this but I want the default characters style to be "none." How do i do that?

Hi all,Today, I needed to run InDesign 2024 on my Mac, and no matter what I tried, it would always 'hang' during launch (showing a 'what's new screen' and giving me the spinning beach ball). Resetting prefs and all that did not help.I managed to get past the problem by temporarily disconnecting my network (I am on Wifi, so I just turned off the Wifi for a minute), then launching InDesign 2024, and then re-activating my Wifi connection.I suspect that InDesign has some deadlock issue when it is trying to reach out to Adobe's welcome screen servers. Any which way - hope this helps!

In a series of documents that I'm working on, there are short boilerplate paragraphs, which are separate InDesign files that are linked and embedded as anchored objects in the text. Everything seems to work as expected, except that there are large spaces (gaps) in the spacing between whenever one of these boilerplates is followed by regular text. These gaps are indicated in the image below by the magenta (pink) arrows on either side.   I've been trying to determine what is affecting/controlling these gaps, because I want to make them smaller. I have eliminated the following:The spacing is not due to text wrap (text wrap is set to zero).  (The spacing between boilerplates is controlled by the text wrap, usually 0.125 inches. But I've set the final boilerplate text wrap to zero to reduce the space, but that is not working to reduce the space as desired.)It is not due to the paragraph "Space before" or "Space after" settings, both of which are zero.It is not due to the

I've created a master page but it isn't appearing on the page when I exit master pages

Here we have a map of locations, each numbered. The following page will include the name of the locations. This map gets updated regularly with new locations, and subsequebtly, the list of locations regularly gets updated too. So for example, if a new location is added which needs to be 'number 1', I'd have to change the order of all the numbers on the map and all the locations on the list, which is a bit of an ordeal.I'm wondering if there's a function/method within any of the adobe apps of achieving this job in a simpler more automated way i.e. making each amendment non-manually? These designs will need to be printed out, so I'm thinking InDesign is the best application for this, though feel free to correct me on this.
