Hello everyone, We are a team of 12 graphic designers that all have the same problem. We are using InDesign to build files and we have links on a server reached using a VPN. We get major slowdowns when the VPN is connected and none when it isn't. The problem is that we have to use it, no choice there. Anyone else have the same problem? Any workaround? Thanks!
Conoscete un Plug-In per InDesign che aiuti ad impaginare velocemente un catalogo - anche con un plugin a pagamento di terze parti - collegandolo ad un excel?
One oy my team checks my work for grammar etc via a PDF. Currently she prints it(!) then marks it up, gives me a call. I open indesign and make fixes she explains to me over the phone. its time consuming. She has no indesign expereince what so ever, has no interest and I dont blame her! Is there any way to stream line this? Does anyone else have a different method. That is to say getting edits from PDF to indesign? She does not mind the idea of editing a PDF if we get her a licence. But it seems that still a lot of work for me to then have to go through it and apply it back to my indesign documents. Cheers
Anyone else have this issue when trying to export a PDF--The PDF export will not complete and is stuck in queued because InDesign is trying to activate a font that is already installed or added, and sometimes this font it is trying to add is not even from the open document? This happens to me often, and opening and closing InDesign helps but it is a pain to do all the time. Also, sometimes toggling off and back on Adobe fonts temporarily resolves the issue.
I've seen this question asked in other places but have not seen an answer. I'm running InDesign Release 2015.4. I have deleted some files from the development folder and they're still showing up in the Recent Files list. I've searched RegEdit and deleted them from there but they're still in the list when I launch InDesign. How can I remove them from the Recent Files list?Thank you.
I am new to InDesign. Trying to print a tri-fold double sided and the reverse side is printing upside down. I think it is some settings I need to tweak but can't find an easy answer. Can anyone give guidance?
I have a document with a TOC that is setup to also export the bookmarks to PDF. The issue I am having is the TOC is using the levels established by my paragraph styles correctly, but the bookmarks are not.For example:Here is the TOC for Chapter 2:Common Knowledge Check is a subsection and it is indented correctly under the Section Skill Basics. Now, here are the Bookmarks for Chapter 2:It has made the sections into subsections. This is happening for every chapter. Basically, it is making all bookmark sin a chapter subordinate to the first bookmark of the chapter. In the example above, it is making Skill Descriptions, Talent Basics and Talent Descriptions into subsection of Skill Basics. The styles are all working correctly because the TOC is correct.I have removed the bookmarks and re-added them and I have fixed them annually, but as soon as I update the TOC, it goes back to broken...
Designing publications for Kindle is becoming a larger and larger part of my workflow, and I now routinely do books for both print and Kindle as a matter of course. With 30 years of experience and using ID since at least CS2, I've worked out most of the process ot my own satisfaction and taste... but I know I am still fumbling around in many ways. Recently, in redoing a complex book from print to K, I had many issues and problems, and in trying to find answers, I came up somewhere between annoyed, shocked and appalled at how scattered the information on this topic is. The vast amount of information on Kindle publishing is amateurish and incomplete: it's aimed at authors who need to get their Word file into Amazon's hands without much technical knowledge or skill. The vast amount of information on Kindle publishing for pros, and using InDesign, is not a great deal better, and the majority of it is greatly outdated. Nearly all of it is for novices, newcomers, first-timers,
Hi,Can someone tell me, why is a vector turning pixelated/hazy when placed on InDesign?
This happens on Windows and Mac version.Occasionally I'll be working on a ID document and I make a change (move a line, duplicate on object etc) and the screen doesn't update with the change.I then force a redraw (zoom in or out, set page to fit etc), then the screen updates with that change.Latest ID on Mac 20.2Running on MacMiniM4 with latest OS.Although this also happens on a Windows 10 install, and a MacMiniM2Pro.It's been happening for a few versions now.Tried turning on and off GPU performance - no difference.
Greetings,I have a single P65 file from 1998 that I need to convert to some other current format--PDF or Word. How can I get that done?Thank you,Brett
Hi There,I am very new to Indesign. I have set spreads for a book in Indesign. In order to insert page numbers, I have added a blue box at bottom of Parent-A and Insert page number from Type>Insert Special Character>Markers>Current Page Number like below: Text frame options of page numbers have been set to Columns=Fixed Number, Width=0.222 in, Align=Top of Vertical Distribution, Unchecked=Ignore Text Wrap and Auto Size=Off. Page numbers appears in normal position as Parent-A page until the Spread 65-66: But don't know why, digits of page number lower down little bit to bottom from the Spread#67-68 and remain until the last spread of the book: This causes the digit of page number being out of margin for which KDP is issuing Out of Margin error. Can you explain why this is happened and how to correct this issue? Regards,Mamun
All the default colours in the swatch window disappeared. How do i get those colours back?
Not sure this landed on the right place. Where is the scripting part of the forum? Was it deleted? All that work... (This post is not a question.)Below you will find a sample script for exporting LAB color swatches from InDesign. InDesign seem to have difficulties keeping thousands of swatches in its palette, so take care. A variant of this script made for Illustrator or Photoshop would probably have been a better idea. /* Script for exporting LAB colours from InDesign Swatches. Number, Name, L, A, and B columns semi colon separated. By Andreas Jansson, Code Combinations AB, Sweden, 2019. Description: First import a library of Pantone Colours so that they are present in the swatches palette of InDesign (you can export swatches from Photoshop, to an ASE file that is importable in InDesign). Then alter the path below to a folder of your choice and run this script with InDesign. The resulting file, I pasted into Excel. */ var result = ''; for (var i = 0; i
Any solutions to InDesign slow performance? It takes 5 seconds to type one character.I have tried the current version and other versions back to 19.5.3 and no difference.I read all the articles and did the things on the lists. (uninstalls, reboots, reset preferences, etc.)I've spent 2 days on this and am getting nowhere. I've used InDesign since CS2.Company-managed computer is 9 years old, but I think it meets specs: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, Dell, Xeon processor wth AVX2 support , 32GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro M4000.Computer passes all self-diagnistics and no memory-hog programs are running. Task Manager looks normal. All files are on the local SSD drive. Just basic conventional 2 to 4 page docs. This started after installing 20.2. Went back to 19.5.3 and it was fine for a week. Now sluggishness happens all the time, even when reinstalling various versions. Not blaming InDesign since it works fine on my newer home laptop. I think it's either my old
Hi,I have 2 problems with user dictionaries.I have words in user dictionary but after transfering to another computer it seems user dictionary doesn't transfer. After packaging it seems user dictionary doesn't transfer with the file to the vendor. I am using indesign cs6Is the best way to add dictionary for each file into Edet> Preferences> Dictionary> and add it under selected language? I am working with several files with difference languages and dictionaries. How can we simplify the working process by not uploading dictionary for each file?Thank you
I'm working on a technical piece in InDesign. The paragraph and character styles have been newly set up and I'm copying and pasting slabs of text from an older document. While making changes or typing in new wording, whenever I type a lower case 'i' the 'i' disappears and the font after that i changes to italic. How can I switch off this feature?
It's not scientific, you can't set the units of the stroke by right clicking on the ruler?I'm going to go ahead and start a suggestion if that's really not possible.
Hi to Everyone,I need to save 30 different pages as separately pdfs with a unique name on each other. Is there any possibility to make it automatically?I already installed Page Exporter Utility but as I see (or maybe I missed) there is no function to name each file as a paragraph or something. Same with a book, even if the file name is unique you can't save it with a unique name as separate pdf automatically. Or maybe there is some script which can export a batch of files to PDF like in Image Processor in Photoshop? It will be a great time saver if something like this exists! Maybe someone had the same problem?
Why are these errors and how do I find the place to amend them (all RSC-005)? I've used ID Styles for both text and objects and am not a coder. For content.opf error reads:(line 2, col 105):Error while parsing file: attribute "xml:lang" not allowed here; expected attribute "id" Line 2 = <package xmlns="http://www.idpf.org/2007/opf" version="2.0" unique-identifier="bookid" xml:lang="en-GB"> In the cover.xhtml lines 3–11 read<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><title>Cover</title></head><body><figure style="text-align:center;"><img src="image/1.png" alt="Cover of It&apos;s The Truth: Making The Only Ones by Simon Wright" style="max-width:100%;" role="doc-cover" /></figure></body></html> And the errors are defined as1) (line 8, col 38)Error while parsing file: element "figure" not allowed anywhere; expected element "address", "blockquote", "del", "div", "dl", "h1", "h2", "h3",
The guides I have set up disappeared from my document after the update, so I'm trying to select eveything on each page and move it to my saved blank template that has the guides. Every time select all on a page and try to copy or cut, Indesign crashes. Tried clearing preferences, but the problem persists.
Adobe InDesign 2026 Troubleshooting How-to GuideThis article (updated June, 2026) is about how to reset preferences as well as a step-by-step checklist strategy of what to do when your InDesign app crashes or your document becomes corrupted. What do you do when InDesign (latest version is 21.4.1) and past versions is crashing? Here is a checklist of ideas (including all about how to reset InDesign): Generalities Isolate the source problemIs the problem the InDesign application, or something wrong with your file, or something wrong with your computer OS? InDesign won’t start, or file won’t open, or file opens and crashes, or crashes on same page? Do you have enough RAM?You need at least 16GB of RAM to run InDesign effectively. Restart your computerQuit InDesign, restart your computer, and try to start it again, with no other programs running. Did you try a different computer? If you can, move/copy the InDesign document and linked graphics to open on a different computer. If it works ok,
After installing Indesign 2025 (20.0 & 20.1), there is now a 3-5 sec lag/delay every time I click my mouse in and out of the program. This is becoming incredibly frustrating. I've uninstalled/re-installed the app multiple times and reset preferences on quit, and nothing is changing. I also went and "rebuilt my cache" of the Adobe indesign folders on my computer, and that did seem to solve the issue for a day, but I got back to having the delay again. I have had Adobe Indesign for 10 years and have never run into this issue until the 20.0 update. This is making the app unworkable. Please help ASAP. I cannot spend any more time trying to figure this out.
Hi everyone,I’m running into an issue with InDesign 20.3 (2025) when exporting PDFs for print. Even though I set the inside bleed to 0 mm — both in Document Setup and during PDF export — crop marks still appear on the inside edge of each page. What I've tried:Created a brand-new PDF export preset from scratch.Tested both facing-page and single-page documents.Tried exporting using document bleed settings as well as entering the values manually — same result.Exported both packaged and non-packaged files — no difference. This is causing layout problems in perfect-bound print jobs where inside crop marks are not acceptable.Has anyone else experienced this with version 20.3?Is this a known bug or is there a workaround I might have missed? Thanks in advance!Best,Banu
