InDesign

 This an assignment where I have to match the design layer with the original pdf layer (the layer with low opacity). I wrapped the text around the picture, but a big gap appears below the image. I need the third line of text of the big paragraph to go directly below the picture. I tried backspacing so that the text goes under the picture, but that doesnt work. Basically I want to know how to get rid of the gap below the image and have the text go directly below the image instead. Thanks! 

Hello!Once again, I have a more or less weird effect: an address on the last page of a PDF exported by Indesign results in an odd display in Acrobat, but only in one document of many that use the same last page design.Correct PDF result: Weird PDF result:The text in those boxes is identical, all with identical format settings. I even copied the affected text box from the working document to the one where the crap comes out and put it in the same position. Of course, I use the same PDF export dialog and settings. No matter what I tried, it always comes out as such. No clue, what happens here and why.Thanks for any idea. Addition: going into edit mode in Acrobat reveals something.Working PDF:Crap PDF: 

Hi I got my first book printed perfect bound and realise now as a newbie that I need to have a wider inside margin to make it easier for people to read. It was ok and readable but could be better. In the original, I used the same margin size of 0.3937 for top, bottom, inside & outside margins. The screenshot below shows how I have reset it: inside margin 1 inch, outside: 0.375 in. Top & bottom remain 0.3937 in. Does it look about right or any tips? The document page size is A4 (8.2677 in x 11.6929 in). Also, is there a way to automate moving the content to fit within the new margins (text and photos)? I expect not but thought I'd ask.   Also, the bottom line of the dotted page number box is now sitting exactly on the bottom margin. Will that cause any problems or will it print ok?     

Hi There... I have importet Code 39 Extended Charset to build Barcodes.When I am using .csv file as datacource some charecters are showing up "incorrect" in Indesign.- The csv file has all the charectors showing correctly, and when you are adding the datasource the small preview it gives you before actualling loading data is also correct. But the minuttet is displaying the bar code its showing some charectors with a wrong encoding(?).I believe this has something to do with charect encoding for my 'textbox' in Indesign. Its very easy to reproduce the problem:Here is what I found : If I type a $ in Ms word with the Code 39 Ext charector set and then in a textbox in Indesign type a $  is it showing differently...It simply 2 different BAR CODES that is displaying..And if I change the font to something human readable it is showing a $ as expected..its allmost as this a diffent font - but it is not...  This is making my skanner fail to read barcodes "genere

Now suddenly (much of the time), I can't type on a page after creating it. I have examined the master pages they're based on, and the problem appears to be a bug where InDesign loses the assignment of the "primary text flow." I have facing pages that intentionally do not flow between each other (yes I have checked both directions). But InDesign will not let me specify the primary text flow on each page. If I set the one on the left, it loses the one on the right. Then, depending on which side my next new page falls, I may not be able to type on it. The problem appears to be due to the "primary flow." In the screen grab below, you can see that the "primary flow" toggles between the left and right pages. Neither of the panes is locked. Now what? 

I keep instinctively trying to resize my text frames using these......boxes? handles? and clicking on the left OR right one like....sucks my text out and makes a small picture/icon of my text and makes it copy/pasteable. What is this thing even called and how do I make it not do that? I just want to be able to shorten or lengthen text frames without changing their other dimension quickly and easily. 

Hello all, I am trying to print and export a PDF version of my Adobe InDesign document with the document gride included in it. I have tried multiple alternatives but so far haven't succeeded. Does anyone know how I can make the document grid appear on the exported PDF and also on the printed copy of my InDesign document? Thank you in advance.

I have a graphic in my document, with wrapping set to "jump object." The problem is that there's too much space between the bottom of the graphic and the next line of text. There's an adjustment in the properties panel for space below the wrapped item, but all it does is move a (new) red line away from the bottom boundary of the graphic. I don't know what that line is supposed to represent, but it has no effect on the wrapped text. If you move the bottom bound of the graphic itself, the text moves but of course the graphic is cropped. Anyone know what the deal is here? Screen grab: https://youtu.be/0RpUVM4o974

Hi everyone,From this old post, I've learned that it's possible to create a cross-reference to paragraph via script. My question now is: Is there a way to also define/edit it via script? - see screenshot below. For instance, I would like to remove the quotations marks and leave only <paraText /> when creating the cross-reference. @Peter Kahrel, any help will be greatly appreciated 🙂 Thanks! 

Hi, my client is having issues accessing an embedded video link that I have in an interactive PDF. The file is saved on my Google Drive folder and the link permits access to anyone with the link however the client says they're being prompted to download the video rather than watch directly from the web browser. All of my beta testing in our office comes back without any problems and everyone can view without problems. Any advice or is this a possible user error by my client? Thanks

Hi everyone, This has been bothering me for a while so trying to find a solution. I produce various reports in InDesign, these include text, tables, photos and often also graphs. I prepare the graphs in Excel, then save it to PDF (via File->Export->Create PDF/XPS) and then place (link) this PDF graph into my InDesign document. However, often the quality of the Axis texts is poor once I export the InDesign file into the final PDF (attaching a screenshot of zoomed Axis values). I have tried to play with the export settings but it does not have much difference. Also, I discovered, that the separate graph that I export from Excel to PDF already shows this rasterized texts, so it seems the issue happens prior to InDesign (as if Excel does not the graph in vectors). If anyone has any useful tips or ideas how to fix this, it would be very appreciated.

I have divided Links panel with Link info divider that suits my needs, it is saved with my workspace, but everytime I open Indesign, it is divided wrong way and wastin lot of space in bottom of Link info. How do I force Indesign to remember panel settings?

Bonjour, bien que j'utilise régulièrement et sans problèmes la fusion de données avec des textes en police latine,  je n'arrive pas à importer correctement du texte en arabe dans un document - en l'occurence des noms arabes dans une invitation bilingue anglais-arabe - les noms s'affichent sous forme de rectangles vides, impossible de les afficher en arabe correct. Mon champ cible est paramétré avec une police arabe et avec le compositeur de paragraphe universel Adobe est activé. Est-ce que d'autres utilisateurs ont rencontré le même problème ? Est-ce que vous avez une solution ?Merci par avance.

I am running InDesign CC v17.4.  Drop-down menus are NOT working. I can sometimes get them to work by both right and left clicking - but any menu item with a sub-menu (spell check for example) will not work. PLEASE HELP! This has been happening for some time and is unacceptable! Tried looking for .plist files to delete, but do not see any for InDesign. 

Over the past few days I've been looking into methods to either set up, generate or manage restaurant menus variably. One of my clients is a hospitality group that owns a few different restaurants, most of which I designed the menus for. However they often simultaneously update their menus and prices for all locations which results in quite a laborious proces that leaves a lot of room for human error. This because theres multiple variants of the same menu in use at different shapes and sizes. (For instance within the restaurant, outdoors on the wall, in front of the restaurant in a display, some have menu's behind the counters etc.) Which makes it quite easy to miss a value or some textual tweak. What I would ideally like to do is hand the restaurant managers an excel sheet that follows a specific format and based off of this generate the individual menus or change details where need be. (for instance containing: menu item, title, type, price, description, etc.) I've bee

I suffer from Adobe InDesign closing suddenly several times, whether when I use the writing features such as bolding the font or inserting text on the next page using the plus sign, or the page freezes and the program closes. Hi,nach meinem Problem mit Photoshop/ Adobe Stock, spinnt jetzt auch indesign rum.Die Schrift ist nach wie vor noch aktiviert (siehe Screenshot), wird aber innerhalb des Dokuments nicht mehr erkannt (siehe ebenfalls Screenshot).Ich bin echt ratlos und kann so auch nicht arbeiten. Vielleicht kann mir ja jemand weiterhelfen. Vielen Dank und viele GrüßeFenja

The new version of InDesign has a terrible bug: when importing a CSV with data merge, it doesn’t import the fields correctly (duplicates images, shifts rows and columns, copies the same cells across entire pages). Every day there’s a new issue with a program we pay a lot of money for, unbelievable...

i am wondering if there is way to increase the font size preview for adding bullet icons. currently, it is so small it's hardly recognizable. using the side scroll is also jumpy and finger scrolling in this panel isn't recognized.

Regular expressions stored in the ID Finder Panel are stored in “Find-Change Queries\GREP” by default.However, occasionally it will be stored in the "Find-Change Queries\Text" directory, under what circumstances will the result be different.It would be great if regular can call "folder shortcut".As far as I know, the script window supports folder shortcuts.

Why when using a paragrph style and I click on the space bar, does it go to the next line instead of just spacing??

Voy a imprimir unas tarjetas de presentación por ambas caras y son 3 cambios, es decir, tarjetas para 3 personas impresas frente y vuelta. ¿Cómo debo de configurar el archivo ( tanto al diseñarlo como al exportarlo ) para que al exportarlo se creen 3 pdf separados, cada uno con frente y vuelta de cada tarjeta? Actualmente el archivo está como muestran estas imágenes: Gracias.   

There is a default spacing between the top of the text box (blue line) and the start of the text. How do I set my preferences so the top of the first line of text touches the blue line? This is super maddening when try to center text vertically. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How can I get my type on path options be part of the paragraph or character style?
