I am a graphic designer for a printing company and I process a LOT of mailing files (barcoded imprint files which must be kept in order by the end of production). Years ago I found an excellent script which allows me to import multiple pdf pages in whatever position on a page I need them. This has been very helpful because I can export the barcoded imprint files as a pdf and import the pdf and keep it in order so that when the files are printed and cut, the imprint files are in order for sorting into trays:i.e. a 5 x 7 postcard with 400 addresses prints 4-up on 11 x 17 stock; when this is printed and cut to size, I want to have addresses 1-100 in position 1 (upper left corner) so that the first stack is the first 100 postcards; position 2 (upper right corner) would have addresses 101-200, etc. This works perfectly for PDF files which I can import using the script; however, I have recently been asked to use EXCEL files rather than pdfs and while I can do a data merge with multiple
Love the table interlocking coloring, but the spanning of the rows isn't very pretty. It's a lot of volume and not regular, can you automate it? Can you share the styles you were able to fill out?
I have a really unusual issue, and I was wondering if anyone here had run into this before. I am using Adobe InDesign 2021, and trying to use the Cross Reference function. The process itself works fine. My issue occurs with the Cross Reference Format. The format selections are all in a foreign language. I was able to set up the reference, and the text itself is in English, as that is the language my InDesign is set too. However, the reference is formatted following the punctuation rules of the foreign language- so the quotes do not follow English formatting. I cannot find how to change the options for this dropdown, and every language option I can find are all set to English. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign, with no change. A co-worker does not have this issue. Image capture below.Any assistance is appreciated, and thanks in advance!
Hello, I have been tasked at my company with editing our emplyee training handbook. This will require massive editing, moving, placing, and deleting of large chunks of text and pictures. I am trying to at first just put the document into the program so I can explore some editing options, however I am running into an issue. I have created a new document with the Primary Text Frame and I am trying to Place the document into the main text frame. It comes out, jumbled (though I figured this would require clean up), but only the first 30 pages. This is about a 300 page document. I wanted to see if anyone could offer some insight as to how I would go about getting my entire document into Indesign. Thank you so much for your help!
SOLVED: I've struggled with this issue many times, and I've finally found a new solution! You can break up your work into separates, smaller files (Indesign does this when its internal undo/snapshot system has glitched). There's a way to move individual pages to a fresh, uncorrupted file: (1) Make 6 new documents of the same dimensions with one blank page each. (2) Go into the pages panel in the original file and click the hamburger. (3) Go to "Move pages". (4) Insert a range (eg. 1-50) and then "Move to..." your fresh document. (5) Repeat this a few times (50-100, 100-150, 150-200...) until you get to 300. For 300 pages, it's probably best to break it up in 50's. This should allow all of your links, swatched, layers, etc to transfer to the new document without having to copy+paste or export.
Hello everyone, I'm trying to understand why the code I attach works perfectly with InDesign 19.x and does not work with Indesign 20.x (see image)Both versions of InDesign are on MacOS Ventura 13.7.5. Is it perhaps a bug in the latest version of InDesign?Is it a bug in the latest version of InDesign or a stupid mistake of mine? Thanks to all.Here is the code: function createFolder(folder) { var script = ""; script += "try\r"; script += "do shell script \"mkdir \" & quote & item 1 of arguments & quote\r"; script += "tell application id \"com.adobe.InDesign\"\r"; script += "tell script args\r"; script += "set value name \"success\" value \"true\"\r"; script += "end tell\r"; script += "end tell\r"; script += "on error\r"; script += "tell application id \"com.adobe.InDesign\"\r";
Help I am working on a product catalogue and I use datamerge. Everything went well untill i started to use text frames ( the black and white textboxes ). it seems that after the merge, Indesign adds some bullcrap empty space, it looks like literal empty non-breaking-spaces. Whenever I change a random setting it suddenly randomly jumps to it's intended position, this makes me feel like it's a bug or something.the empty space seems to be pushing the inline items away. I didnt put anything like this in the template and the data merge file is clean. anybody have any idea what's going on? This problems prevents me from using datamerge effectively. see linkhttps://imgur.com/a/RFc8fE9
My mind is doing a 360 to even try to explain what I want to do, but I will try:I am responsible for making a giant retail catalogue and prices range from 0.⁰⁰ to 0000.⁰⁰ I wish to automate a rule with GREP where it will automatically fill in the decimal after x or y amount of digits. I want to be able to automatically fill in the decimal after 1 or 4 digits, based on the data. so if the price is 34.29. I want GREP styling to see that this spefific speficially has 2 main digits ( 34 ) and should then jump to decimal and fill it (29 ). for a longer price, lets say 2432.28, I want GREP to notice the 4 main digits and then jump to decimals. In short, I am trying to make GREP style see the difference in main digits and decimals and decide what to do accordingly.is this possible at all? thank you very much!
I have obtained the IControlView of the panel or dialog, and then called the MoveTo function, but it doesn't change the window's position. For the panel, I obtained the IWidgetParent interface through IControlView, and then got the IWindow interface by calling:InterfacePtr<IWidgetParent> myParent(panelControw, UseDefaultIID()); InterfacePtr<IWindow> iWindow((IWindow*)myParent->QueryParentFor(IWindow::kDefaultIID));For dialogs, I created a new dialog using:IDialog* dialog = dialogMgr->CreateNewDialog(dialogSpec, IDialog::kMovableModal); Then I got the IWindow interface through:InterfacePtr<IWindow> iWindow(dialog, UseDefaultIID());Afterwards, I called the SetPosition function of the IWindow interface, but still couldn’t change the window's position. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any guidance or advice from more experienced developers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Does anyone know about Hindi characters in InDesign? We're preparing a children's book with different languages. One page is dedicated to Hindi. We use some words in this language. But every time we copy the Hindi words to InDesign the characters change. Native speakers say that it looks incorrect then. YouTube videos on this matter don't help. So we're trying to have these words: नमस्तेभौ भौकुत्ताBut in InDesign we get something else as you can see on the image. Can anyone help?
Hi,I searched the community and didn't see anything for my specific question. I inherited a file- a large book with several dozen images. Most of the images (I assumed all) are linked. I output the file to PDF and received no warnings. Preflight passed. I found out later that an image was very low res. I went back to verify and found that the image was not in the links panel and, when selected, gives no info. As mentioned, it also gave no warnings on output nor in the preflight report- in essence, it didn't exist at all to ID. I believe this image was copy/pasted into the doc after reading some of the discussions. I now worry that there are several of these images throughout the document. So here is my question- Is there a way to find out how many or which images are embedded or pasted in without having to go through and select each image and verify the link? I haven't come across embedded images in a while. It used to be that any embedded graphic/image would show as such in the links
I am wondering if a file is about 100 pages --text based but with some vector graphics (think basic vector shapes mostly, icons, etc. and all embeded in the file) if it's a recipe for disaster? I can divide the file I guess and do a indd book situation---though I'm anxious to-- but wondering if there are no linked images if there is a point? Are vector shapes going to clogg the file dramtically? File is 14MB at the moment which seems weirdly large though. I have not added the vector data visualiazions yet--except a few here and there.
I'm very new to scripting and was using ChatGPT to work through a way to expand the pasteboard size of the current openend document. I found a way to make a script expand the slug area, but that isn't what I needed. Here's the final message I received. InDesign scripting API doesn't give direct access to pasteboardPreferences through the Spread object. Even though pasteboardMargins is editable in the InDesign UI (in Preferences > Guides & Pasteboard), it's unfortunately not exposed through scripting on a per-spread or global level. I just wanted to check if anyone knows that this is true, so I can either stop my quest or keep trying. Thanks!
Exporting document with page size 8.625x11.25" and 0.125" bleed all round, to pdf.Acrobat inspector shows page 8.88x11.5. Is this because Acrobat includes the bleed in it's reported page size?
Tengo una duda: Es posible que el contenido publicado con una licencia y desde una consola de empresa se pueda migrar o ceder a otra licencia que corresponda a otra empresa/consola?
Hello,I'm using a ID book template that had some pre-designed pages using paragraph styles. The problem I'm having is when I create any new text boxes - then add copy/pasted text or fill text - and apply the same paragraph styles the text disappears. The weird this is if I manually type in InDesign the paragraph styles applies without issues. Has any experienced this problem too - what's the solution? Thanks for your time in advance,Nicole
Hi,I just bought a new MacBook Pro which is macOS Sequaia ver. 15.4. I need to use the older versions of Indesign which are Indesign 2020 version 15.1.4 and 2021 version 16.4. However, the Creative Cloud only has latest versions. Anyway I can find the installers? Minion Thanks. Wes
I have tried multiple different methods and none of which are working- please help! I am having issues changing colors of my transparent images. Everytime I go to Window>Color it adds the color to the background rather than the image itself. I feel like I have exhausted my options and really am not sure what else I can do. I am fairly new to InDesign so I'm hoping its just something I am overlooking, but I'm beginning to doubt its even possible to change transparent image colors. Please help! I am trying to match this image to our brand colors.
For a while now footnotes have been disappearing from my documents--just the actual footnote, not the reference. When enough disappear that text reflows I receive the "Overset Text" error, but recently one disappeared and text should have reflown but did not, and I received no error warning. This was only caught by chance before sending it to the printer. I have seen others on forums struggling with issues like this, but there are never any answers, from Adobe or from other clever typesetters. This is a very concerning problem. Please let me know if there's any way to at least make sure I am notified if footnotes disappear!
Test File is here It seems to be a bad idea to collect examples of this, because you see that it's not normal, but it might be normal on a different computer. OTF - TTF font problem Font Problem (OTF) Font missing; TT OTP font- So haven't been able to find a fundamental solution. I've seen a couple of posters on the web discussing it, and ultimately nothing. There is no solution. Some sham-missing words can be found and replaced, some are stubborn and cannot be replaced. I originally thought it was the ID fonts pointing (in C:\window\Fonts also Document fonts) that was messed up, but the fact that it was only a specific few fonts that were having problems suggests that the fonts themselves were the problem. Let's all get together, look around, and see if changing the ID settings, or modifying the font parameters, can fix it. After you restart your ID, maybe some of it is normal again. Some people have been prompted to clear the font cache,
I have same problem, after reading all replies. i just closed all chrome browers. BINGO. it works
Hi All, first post here. Hope someone can help. Re. Mac OS M1 Max - Sonoma 14.7.5 – InDesign 20.2 I have an Indesign book comprising 10 individual indesign files. All links in all the files are good. When exporting each individual indesign file by themselves, the resultant PDFs are all good with no poor quality images. However, when exporting the same files using the "Export book to PDF" command from Indesign's book palette, I get the warning: "Some files/URL(s) are not accessible..." [attached] and some of images on the resultant PDF are poor quality as if not linked. Having done some troubleshooting, I've made sure that my system settings allow full disk access for all abobe software, especially Indesign. The "Files and Folders" setting clearly shows that access to my iCloud drive, in which the project files sit, is allowed. To elimate any concerns with iCloud, I have packaged the same book to my local drive (outside of any cloud), and tested the "Export boo
Hi InDesign 2024 version We are creating Accessible PDF and for reading order we used Article option in InDesign. We have used Anchor object and while creating accessible PDF the content sides and angles not coming in tag. I attached InDesign file and output PDF for your reference. While selecting the root document that content is not selecting.
Dear Adobe Team,As Persian speakers, we face significant challenges when using Adobe software due to the lack of a dedicated Persian language engine, which is currently intertwined with Arabic language support. While Persian and Arabic share some similarities, they have distinct differences in typography, punctuation, and text behavior, which causes issues in Adobe's applications like After Effects, Illustrator, and InDesign. The current Arabic engine does not fully accommodate Persian text rendering and typographic nuances, leading to errors and inconsistencies, especially in Right-to-Left (RTL) scripts. We, the Persian-speaking users, represent a considerable user base worldwide, and we believe that introducing a separate, dedicated Persian language engine would vastly improve the usability and efficiency of Adobe products for our community. We kindly request that Adobe consider the development of an independent Persian language engine, separate from the Arabic one, to enhance the expe
Hi everyone, Hope you're having a great day. I'm running into a strange issue with Adobe InDesign. Every time I open a file, all keyboard shortcuts stop working. I can't use basic commands like Save (Ctrl+S), Copy (Ctrl+C), or even Close (Ctrl+W). The only shortcut that seems to respond is Alt+W, which opens the menu bar. However, once I manually interact with the interface—like zooming in/out using the mouse or adjusting something like opacity in the control panel—the shortcuts suddenly start working normally again. So far, I’ve tried clearing preferences and cache using Ctrl + Alt + Shift on startup, but it didn’t solve the problem. I haven’t reinstalled InDesign yet. It's becoming quite frustrating to deal with this every time I open a file. Has anyone else experienced this or found a fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
