Ok, I'm having major issues with type in inDesign and Photoshop CS4 for Windows. When I draw a type box, I can type all I want just fine, but as soon as I hit enter, the type goes away.In inDesign, I get the red plus sign at the bottom of the type box, and in photoshop, my type box goes away, and the history menu updates itself with "edit type layer".Either way, I cannot create a line break and second line of text, which, in effect, makes this software completely and utterly useless to me.I have referenced this previous thread which discusses numlock and multiple mapping of the enter key for various type functions.http://forums.adobe.com/thread/575626?tstart=0I am using an Alienware M15x laptop. My numlock is turned off, and frankly, the only way I can get the numlock to turn on is by enabling the on screen keyboard and hitting the numlock button there.I have tried to go to the keyboard shortcut menu to remap the enter key, but I have no idea what I'm looking for there. This seems to be
Does anyone know a different or faster way of changing an .ai linked files selected artboard, without having to select the link, relink, select file etc.Is there a script that would allow me to change the linked artboard from within the links window? Thanks.
Both documents have identicial colour profiles but the Indesign is always dull. What can I do to get correct colour representation.Indesign is set to Document Setup – WebTransparecny Blend Space – RGBSwatches – RGBWorking Spaces – sRGBProof Setup – sRGB
HelloIs there any options to set snap to document grid off via javascript? The code from manual doesn't workwith(myDocument.gridPreferences){documentGridShown = false;documentGridSnapTo = false;baselineGridShown = false;} Thanks
Hi eveyone,Using the code below I can see the name of the character style is applied to a word.var mySelection = app.selection[0]; alert(mySelection.words[6].appliedCharacterStyle.name)The code above seems to pick up the character style applied to the first part of it. What I'm trying to do is check if there is more that 1 character style applied to a single word but, as yet I've not managed. For example, 'posted', has 2 character styles applied - plain and bold. I'm trying to get that count in InDesign via a script. Is it possible? Thanks in advance.
InDesign is processing very slow when editing paragraph and character styles. Have checked my system and I have all of the processing requirements needed. Noticed this after the latest update on March 7, 2025. Anyone else noticing this? <Title renamed by MOD>
Seems in the last couple weeks more than not InDesign crashes when I save to a pdf. I've tried saving to another location but that doesn't always work. It feels very ramdom.
Yet another frustrating bug in InDesign: pressing Shift+W, which should activate fullscreen layout preview, now triggers the "Insert Math" popup. For almost €70/month, can we expect a level of professionalism and reliability that matches the price we're paying? The persistent and unsolved "show tips" feature for beginners—which we still can't disable—is already irritating enough. We don't need new bugs making our workflow even worse. Oh, and sorry to my fellow community members—after all, the only people likely to read this are users like us, not anyone at Adobe actually responsible for fixing it.
I've seen a posts here about using the "Convert Bullets to Text" contextual option in text as well the method app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().convertBulletsAndNumberingToText(); however neither is satifactory so ive been writing a script to change the copy in a document that has a bullet or number list style applied to converted text, but i'm having trouble figuring out how to script going through the text, identifying the ones with specific paragraph styles ( there are 6 styles, all set within two layers of groupings: Body Styles [group] > Lists [group] > Bullet lvl 1 [style].heres what ive tried to so, but i realized that it was converting the whole style not the text with the style. var bul1 = doc.paragraphStyleGroups.itemByName( "Body Styles" ).paragraphStyleGroups.itemByName( "Lists" ).paragraphStyles.itemByName( "Bullet lvl 1" );var bul2 = doc.paragraphStyleGroups.itemByName( "Body Styles" ).paragraphStyleGroups.itemByName( "Lists" ).paragraphStyles.itemBy
Hello! I am working with In-Design CC 2020 and I noticed that when I use alt and drag to duplicate an object, it's not working as I used to know, but instead, it creates something like step and repeat! It creates 2 more objects! It's so frustrating..... {Renamed by MOD}
Hello! I'm working on a 1300+ page technical document, and the owner wants some complex numbering. In lieu of a running head in the footer, they would like each page to indicate what "sections" of the book are on that page (ie. Section 1.4A to 1.6B)--note these sections start mid-page, so I can't use InDesign's sections. The last version of this book did this numbering manually. I've got the actual sections set up with a List, but I'm not sure how to reference the sections in the footer--and I'd like to avoid the manual approach. Any suggestions?
Hello! I have created some lottery tickets. There are ten thousand different tickets, and I need to arrange them on a sheet that measures 32 x 45 cm. Is it possible to do this automatically in InDesign, adding the crop marks? I need help; I'm really pressed for time with this. <Title renamed by MOD>
I have a 64 page pdf created in Indesign. Each page is just a 2 x 2 inches, so I have placed that file into another Indesign file, 12 pages per page so that I have fewer pages to print and it will be faster to cut out. When I go to update the link to the 64 page pdf all 64 placed pages change to page one of that pdf. This happens both when I say "update link" when I open the document, and when I don't update when opening and use the Update All Instances button in the links panel instead. I feel like this has worked just fine in the past which is why I chose this workflow, but it is definitely not working now. Am I forgetting to press or check something?
I have customer supplied pdfs that I have been setting up in printer spreads for my production department. I place the pdf pages in InDesign and then when I do print booklet, the exported pdf has messed up fonts. See screenshots below showing the supplied pdf vs the printer spreads pdf. It's like it's bolding some of the font and it shouldn't be. It is incosistent as well within words. Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?? Please help!!!
I create detailed medical forms for my company, which require frequent updates. I name all form fields, checkboxes, and radio buttons and set the tab order. After making updates to a form, however, the tab order always re-shuffles. In particular, any radio buttons (and sometimes checkboxes and signature fields) drop to the bottom of the tab order list. Fixing the tab order after each form revision is a tediousness time suck. Does anyone have a suggestion / plug-in to avoid this going forward? I appreciate the help!
I am having issue where indesign crashes unexpectedly and espcally when I duplicate pages and have been for about 10 months.Happens on both my Macbook Pros.Happened in Monterry and now on Ventura.I host all my files on a service called Pcloud which is simlar to Dropbox. (Which is non negotiable for a variety of reasons)I just went through a long support session and got the typical.- Restart- Delete Preferences- Oh it must be at your end- Reinstall- use adobe cloud (can't do that and that is not acceptable as a solution)So we did all that.- Trying copying to a local drive. (again not acceptable as solution)Then.....- Put a ticket on the forum.... so here I am.My argument is that it did not happen for like 4 years of me using Pcloud and indesign and all of a sudden about 1 year ago started happening. On my windows PC it is fine.None of the other Adobe Apps have the same issue, and all use links (AEffects, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator)Internet seems to be fine when the issue is happen
Hi All, Since the latest InDesign upgrade, I can no longer marquis with the Zoom tool to zoom to a certain area of a layout. When working on type, I used to marquis from margin-to-margin to make the width as large as possible to see what was happening. Now InDesign's Zoom tool seems to work exactly the same way as in Illustrator and Photoshop. Click to make the view larger. Click and hold to Zoom in continuously. To me, neither of these methods are as fast or accurate as the marquis method. Is there some sort of preference I'm missing to bring the"better" Zoom tool back? Or can Adobe add a "Zoom to Width" command? Thanks!
I have a lot of documents to export to png and pdf (384 documents, basically the same documents, 12 shells and 32 different sales people names). I found the script below but it's not working in Indesign 20.2, and I'm too dumb to edit it. I thought the pdf preset name was the issue, but none seem to work. In a perfect world, this script would work on all open documents (I generally open 32 at a time), but I think that's pushing it. Any help is appreciated. var doc = app.activeDocument;// PDF Exportfunction exportPDF() {var pdfExportPath = doc.filePath.parent + "/" + doc.name.split(".")[0] + ".pdf";doc.exportDocument({file: new File(pdfExportPath),exportPDFOptions: {presetName:"[PDF/X-4:2008]", },});}// PNG Exportfunction exportPNG() {var pngExportPath = doc.filePath.parent + "/" + doc.name.split(".")[0] + ".png";doc.exportDocument({file: new File(pngExportPath),exportJPEGOptions: {fileFormat:ExportFileFormat.PNG,},});}// Call the functionsexportPDF();exp
I have a large file, a 132 page visitors guide that suddenly would not export a certain spread no matter what I did. I spent a lot of time going through the document and got rid of a certain font that was older and thought that maybe the font was corrupted and causing the issue. I thought it was fixed bc it let me export that page but then when I started working on it again the next spread started having objects (images, text, and shapes) just disappear or lock up. I could see them but not edit or click on them. I could go to a different spread and come back and it would look different each time. I could save and close out and open it up and it would be there again and then just disappear again. I tried exporting it as an idml file and reopening it and that did not work.
InDesign Touchpad Scrolling and Zooming Issues.I'm experiencing two major issues:First, when I try to scroll using two fingers on my touchpad, the movement is not smooth at all, and each "single swipe" moves the project by about one centimeter. This makes it impossible to precisely control the position on the project, and I find myself constantly using Ctrl+0 to center the page on the screen. However, when I use the scroll bar on the right or the touchscreen, it works smoothly. The second issue pertains to zooming. When I attempt to pinch with two fingers on the touchpad, it does absolutely nothing, but it works perfectly with the touchscreen.I have tried to uncheck and recheck "Enable Multi-Touch Gesture" in the preferences, but it hasn't made any difference. I also attempted to reset the preferences, but this didn't solve the problem either. I don't have any issues with any other program outside of the Adobe suite.Thank you in advance for any assistance.I've also noticed that the
I have a footnote marker in a shaded paragraph that is shifting the line down. The same leading is applied to the footnote marker as the rest of the paragraph and changing the superscript to regular doesn't work to fix the problem, but it's not happening in every paragraph with the same style applied. Screenshot shows difference between footnotes 2 and 4. Any ideas? Thanks much!
Hi there, this is my first post here.I have a late 2017 Retina 5K iMac (Intel-based) running Mac OS Ventura and I'm having a hard time working on InDesign: it crashes quite constantly while I'm working on it. I've noticed it happens everytime I try to click and drag a page (to make a copy or delete it, for example), but other random actions also trigger this bug. I've tried looking up online to find out if someone else is having the same issues, but I couldn't find anything. It's been happening since the launch of the 2025 version of InDesign and I always keep it updated. Here are the specs of my iMac:3,4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5Radeon Pro 570 4 GB32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 RAMRunning Mac OS Ventura 13.7.2 Thanks in advance!
Hi there - I am after some urgent help please! I have been copying / pasting text form a large report into my InDesign and formatting it as I go - it's a complex layout, so haven't pasted all the text in and flowed it as I go. However, the client has sent a new Word doc with loads of changes and I don't want to have to copy and paste it all in again. Is there a way I can import the entire new word doc into my Indesign doc and track the changes or apply them to my formatted text? Thank you!
I've had Adobe CC installed on an M3 Max Mac Book Pro for about 4 months. For the most part it's been issue-free. Starting yesterday, I began experiencing a 2-4 second lag between typing characters in an active text box and seeing those characters appear. Same for inserting a cursor in a paragraph, or selecting a text box or pulling down a menu. I've tried removing the prefs and have even un-installed and re-installed InDesign, yet the problem persists. I've seen some comments about this problem from a few years back; possibly growing pains when Apple switched to Apple Silicon. Could this be an M3-related problem? Up until yesterday, Oct 14, 2024, I had no typing lag or any kind of lag. I run a plain system with Adobe CC, wacom driver, MS office and Articulate Storyline. Thank you for any suggestions! <Title renamed by MOD>
Hello everyone, we're experiencing a recurring issue with broken links in our InDesign documents stored on our shared network drives. The problem typically arises when a file is updated on one platform and then opened on another. For example, if a Mac user updates a file and then a Windows user accesses it, the links break, and vice versa. Any suggestions on how to resolve this cross-platform linking issue?
