InDesign

Hi, I am working on my first book layout. For the body spacing, it seems that sometimes the spacing between words is larger in certain places. I imagine this is happening because the body text is set to justify with the last line aligned left.My question is: Is it acceptable to leave it like this? If not, what solutions are there to fix this?  Thank you very much! 

Because I was experimenting, I created way too many print presets in a document I want to print. How do I delete them so I can start over?

I'm looking to streamline my workflow a touch more and have my business artwork proof documents as a template preset in InDesign. These proofs contain artwork and text such as our logo, approval disclaimers, date and time scripts with electronic sigantures. We use these documents to place the artwork we produce for the customer to approve. I cannot find a solution to have these set-up as "presets" in the New Document window. Would be nice to have these on the app itself rather than going to my documents each time to pull it out and open. I can only find solutions that allow us to set up margins, columns, doc size etc. Does anyone have a solution for inserting these template files for our company in a preset that I can select from the new document window and the home page of indesign?Thanks in advance!

Hello,I'm having issues with the KDP previewer regarding a couple of chapter pages that have a background color (a solid color shape). My book is 6x9", and since there are these pages that have a background color that extends to the edges, the document is set to 6.125x9.25" with bleeds. The margins are correct and exceed the minimum requirements.When I remove the background color (delete the shape), the error goes away, but I want to keep the background color for design purposes.How can I resolve this issue? Did I do something wrong?I've attached screenshots of the document setup, the actual document, and the KDP preview.Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello - i've tried everything that has been posted in regards to guides that has been listed on this forum and nothing works. I am using a pre-exising document that i didn't create. When I go to drag over a new guide from the ruler, as soon as the guide hits the page, a grid appears that i did not set. These guides look different then the guides I am setting up as they don't extend beyond the page, but they also don't appear to be grids, because they only respond to the "Hide all guides" command. Any insight is appreciated.

I've got a routine that makes a list of headlines & sorts them, which ends up as bookmarks. When a headline contains an anchored object, the resulting text includes a glyph, a tiny dotted box with 'OBJ' in it, which looks bad in the final list of bookmarks. Using string.charAt(x) for the character returns 65532.I suppose I could write a function that loops through the sentence's characters & discards any 65532, but that seems like overkill if there's a regexp replace string. I already run string.replace(/\s+/g, " ") to replace non-space invisible ctrl characters w/space, but that pattern doesn't affect the object character. Does this ring a bell with anyone?Thanks.

While subscribing to adobe pro I accidently misspelled the gmail domain name <id>.gamil.com instead of  <id>gmail. I was subscribing from the app where I was not logged in to my acctual account.  I first thought since the account is invalid the subscription might not go through. Now my card is getting charged the earily subscription.

Hi,I want to check Table cell style was created in indesign? If not created I have to create the cell style name with dummy propeties as like 'TBL_COLH' 'TBL_BODY' (This is cell style name).1. If the 'TBL_COLH' & 'TBL_BODY' this cell style appeared in Indesign, give me alert 'The cell style already presented in Indesign.2. I designed a 270 page document with a lot of text and images.The publisher asked me to decrease the page widh by a few milimeters. For doing that i would like to make the margins smaller and leaving all the rest un touched.Whats the best and neat way to do that?

Dear all,this may not directly belong to the InDesign forum but I have not found a dedicated publishers forum that may answer my quandary (if you know one, please direct me there!)Since I will soon upgrade my publications from digital only to digital and print, I am inquiring about ISMN and ISBN. The music engraving community is discordant on their utility but, most of all, on their cost. Here in Italy the ISMN costs up to EUR 5,00 each, while in Romania, Portugal, and the USA, they seem free to obtain from the respective National Libraries.Do you know if there is a general and legal way of obtaining them for free? What is your general opinion on them? If you publish, or work in publishing, do you use them? A distributor from the UK refused to distribute my scores if they have the ISMN instead of the ISBN. I found that strange...Thank you for your input.

I want to compare the contents of row 1 and row 2, and if the contents are same(same row),  delete the second row.It's a bit confusing to use for and if together.logical disorder.It always feels like the loop nesting isn't finished.Or it just starts and ends.  for(var i = 0; i < table.columns.cells.length; i++){ if(table.rows[0].cells[i].contents==table.rows[1].cell[i].contents){ table.rows[0].remove(); } else{ } }   

HelloI have two InDesign documents. A first (A) of 300 different pages and a second (B) of 1 page.

I want to insert the second document (B) after each of the 300 pages, for a total of 600 pages. That is: A1-B-A2-B-A3-B-A4-B…. Up to….A299-B-A300-B What would be the quickest method?

I currently have a book with the text flowing from one page to another.  After reviewing it I noticed that I didn't add enough boxes.  How can I add another text box and continue the flow?In the below image the text box shows the red "icon" showing I have more text (which I do) but I don't know how to get it to continue to flow on the next empty page.

Hi, I am working on a journal which is a compilation of ads that are submitted in honor of an institutions honorees. The whole journal is about 1500 pages. I've been doing this for ten years and I'm wondering if there is a better way. Until now I have created each ad as its own document. I know that is not smart, but I need to be able to alphabetize all the ads at the end which I do easily by calling each file with the last name of the donor. However, since each donor wants to be able to find their ad I create an index as well. But the indexing process is a nightmare because I'm dealing with close to 1500 separate documents. Until now I've been putting them into books of about 100 per book, indexing each book, and then combining those indexes and manually deleting the multiple As, Bs etc so that it looks like one index. Is there a better way? Last time inDesign was not cooperating and kept crashing even when keeping my books were 100 pages. It was just too much...If

For the past few months my indesign has been virtually unusable due to a persistent glitch. See attached video This black flashing appears anytime I try to move or alter an object on an indesign object, as well as on illustrator. It doesn't happen so much on photoshop. I can run rendering software like blender and fusion completely fine. I desperately need help as I have a deadline soon and have been using figma rather unsuccessfully since the glitch started.

HiI have a 300 pages long document.Currently the textframe in the page is using full margins.I want to reduce the width (from left) of the textframes residing on the even side by 30mm and apply an object style of EVENFRAMEand the textframes residing on the odd side by 20mm (from right) and apply object style of ODDFRAME.A sample has been done in page 2 and 3. IDML File attached.Is there a way to achieve this using InDesign ? Does anyone have a script ?Another hurdle is that most of the pages contains tables.I need tables width to be the same size of the final textframe.Thanks

I have an ID document where the content (copy) is fed from Excel via a placed link. The issue I'm having is that the bulleted copy aligns with the bullet point, even when the copy goes to two lines, rather than aligning neatly with the first line of copy.  The attached screenshot shows how messy the bullet points look now. I have tried adjusting the paragraph styles, but I'm unsure if there is a rule to indent second and subsequent lines of copy in a paragraph. 

I often accidentally invoke Content Collector by hitting B on keyboard. I tried to disable the shortcut using edit keyboard shortcuts but could not locate the shortcut to turn it off.Could anyone help with locating this tool in the edit shortcuts window? It doesn't appear under the Tools dropdown. There may be another solution I haven't considered but it isn't a serious problem - just a time waster.ThanksE French

I have a document right now that is acting like I have turned off the hyphenation, but I didn't. It doesn't seem to matter what I do with tracking, justification settings, hyphenation settings, etc., the only hyphens in the document are the discretionary hyphens I put in. And it won't hyphenate even with discretionary hyphens if it is the second or third to last word in a paragraph, even though I unchecked last word setting in the paragraph style hyphenation. I am using styles. I also double checked, and the language is listed as English. I can create new documents from scratch and they respond to my hyphenation changes with automatic hyphenation, just not this one. Any ideas?

I want to export a book document in InDesign to PDF. It consists of 7 book parts, but I keep getting an error message saying that the PDF cannot be generated. I also combined the 7 book sections into one file, but I get the same error message. The possible cause of the error seems to be located on the spread with page number 369. Using the "Package" and "Preflight" tools, no errors are detected. Exporting the PDF from the individual book file works fine. I have checked all images and gradients but cannot find any issues. Despite repeated export attempts, I keep encountering the same error. The export process appears to complete successfully, but as soon as it finishes, an error message appears, and no PDF is generated. How do I solve this? 

Hello, my OS Mac Catalina. I want to install InDesign 18.5 but i can't find in the Creative Cloud. I kindly request your help.

My Package dialog has increased in width size to over 14" wide while all parameter appear on the left side of the dialog. Appreciate any suggestions as to the cause and possible solution to have dialog return to a normal dimension.
