I'm having some trouble with a print error (The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem). I've trouble-shooted with some articles on here and gone through the steps in this post: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/error-print-engine-failed-print.html   I was able to print the document through the workaround of exporting to a PDF, but want to know the reason why it was getting that error. I've run into this issue with a few files before, but had no luck figuring out the reasoning. Usually, the files that have the error have been originally set up by someone else or are a copy of a file.    In addition to the suggestions in the post linked above, I've tried trouble-shooting by isolating out layers/objects, etc. and re-sending to print to try to find the direct issue. No luck with this either.    Any suggestions? I've seen articles going back years with this same issue, but no clear reasoning for why.     <Tit

For some unknown reason, I lost a custom font that I had used in an Indesign document. It was available for 2 years, but now it is missing!   I need to know 2 things: 1. Hey everyone,  I have been diving into data merging with Indesign and absolutely loving it. Here is a catalog I created for the company I work for. I also have started to utilize separate .indd files to place pages from an indesign file into another indesign document. This has made my documents more editable in a helpful way.   I ran into some difficulty using data merge and placed documents. So, I am curious how some of you might approach this task with inDesign.    In one .indd, I have laid out a hang tag for retail products. Image below   In another, I "placed" the hang tag on a 13x19 sheet for print.   I like this approach because when I edit the hang tag, it automatically updates all instances of it in my hang tag layout. However, I am not able to Data Merge to a placed document, AFAIK. And we have close to 500 product variants to create hang tags for, so Data Merge is absolutely necessary.    I'm thinking I need to bite the bullet and simply r

I have an interactive form set up in Indesign CS6 and have muliple check boxes, I have them set to only appear when clicked, however our client would like it so that when one is clicked it won't let you click the others, so bascially is there are 10 check boxes, only allow you to click 1.Kind regardsMark

Hello, I am putting together a ebook and created a table of contents for it.  However, when I open the book in Mac's Books app, the table of contents changes.  It turns blue and the page numbers get pushed over to the chapter headings. I have 2 documents, both with hyperlinks at certain points in the text. If I want to copy text passages (with hyperlinks) on the 1st document & paste them into another (2nd document), the complete structure of the linking is lost.Absurdly, links appear in the wrong places & these get completely mixed up.     <Title renamed by MOD>

I found something extremely intersting - Adobe products don't work with Apple's SF PRO font.    As soon as I put SF PRO font into my Indesign file or Aftereffect file - the files becomes unusably slow. It feels like the softwares are rejecting Apple's SF PRO font by design.   does anyone else see this problem??  and why does Adobe do this??      <Title renamed by MOD>

I think I know the answer to this question. Just in case I am missing something very obvious. I don't need such a feature to the point that I wouldn't be able to copy/paste the shape to Illustrator, outline it there and copy it back as a "surface".  To me this feature will never be found in InDesign... but I have to ask... If I apply a character style to just a few words within a paragraph-style text in a InDesign CC document, after selecting File/Adobe PDF Presets/PDF/X and saving, on opening the PDF all the document's formatting and text attributes are reflected with the exception of the words to which the chararacter style has been applied. Am I missing something? PS: I've never used character styles before in a PDF but presume Acrobat can support them.     <Title renamed by MOD>        

Hi. I just got Adobe InDesign CS5. I have been a very long user of QuarkXpress. What I would like to do is a linear blend ofcolours in an object to a design I am doing. Then I would like to change the opacity of the SELECTED OBJECT only. But for some reason when I select the object and change the opacity, it changes it to the picture that is underneath the object to a different colour blue than what was originally in the picture I created? The picture was created in Photoimpact 11, with Pantone Blue as the colour.First, I created a new document and inserted a PNG picture that fits on the entire document as the background, that has a very bright blue background. I want to put a rectangular text box at the top with blended colours. When I create a new object, using the rectangle tool, and then put it on top of the picture, I select the rectangular box, I right click and go to Effects and then Transparency. I select the "Select for" prompt to "Fill". Then on the right side where it says "

I have a document that has conditional text (I-P and SI units). I have set up styles for each unit's equations (initial and continuation). Each unit's equations must have their own sequence (1,2, 3, 4, etc.) So, when the SI or I-P conditional text is turned off or on, the equations show the proper sequential numbering.Currently, if the I-P equations are all in order, the numbering is ok. But, our usual set up is to put each unit's equation one after the other (I-P eq. 1, SI eq. 1, I-P eq. 2, SI eq. 2, etc.If each unit is paired, the next equation starts numbering from the last equation instead of the previous sequence (see attached visual).I brought up the conditional text only in case there is something I can do using that to help keep the I-P and SI unit equations separate so that each unit's equations number sequentially.Thank you! 

What is your way of selecting multiple pages in UI - consecutive or not - so this selection info can be read from the script? Or how do you select pages from script so selection can be read back.      <Title renamed by MOD>  

Hi there! I'm creating some assets for print at the moment - but for some reason, when I switch to Overprint preview, the glow in my TIFF image switches to an ugly grey glow. Hi all, I am working on a study project that creating a fashion booklet to print. I converted my transparent images from RGB to CMYK in Photoshop and I have double checked in file info that they are in tiff format and CMYK color space. I placed the images to Indesign then I hit print booklet and exported a Press Ready PDF from Acrobat Distiller. As a result, some of the transparent images work and some of them do not work, but all images are exported in the same way. I feel very confused. I also tried linking the images in PSD format, but still. Does anybody know what is wrong with my steps? Thank you so much! After upgrading to Indesign version 20.0, the feature to resize any element with Cmd + Opt + Shift + Mouse is not working.

When I work with transparencies in InDesign, the text on the page always appears bolder (even when exported). What could be causing this? This happens in both RGB and CMYK color modes. The text is on the top layer.     100 % Opacity:   Less than 100 % Opacity (50%)     <Title renamed by MOD>
