InDesign

If I open an InDesign document on my laptop (2021 Macbook Pro, up to date, 32GB memory, 1TB HD), begin working on it, and then connect to my external Apple monitor the InDesign functionality remains but the display board/pages will be completely blank/unworkable. Similarly, if I open an InDesign document while connected to the screen, begin working on it, and then unplug to return to my laptop screen those board/pages will be completely blank/unworkable. However, when I plug back in or unplug (depending on how I was working when I originated the document) everything is as normal and I can work on it again.As a temporary workaround, I'm having to package, close, and reopen my designs every time I plug in or unplug my monitor for the day, which is extremely frustrating. This is not happening with Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro, etc., nor has it ever happened with InDesign 2023 or earlier. All other non-Adobe programs also work/display as normal. Hallo zusammen, ich habe eine Frage bzgl. der Erstellung eines QR-Codes in InDesign. Aktuell arbeite ich daran, mehrere Visitenkarten zu erstellen. Da die Stückzahl sehr hoch sein wird, kommt für mich die Funktion "Data Merge" im Zusammenspiel mit Excel in Betracht. Auf der Visitenkarte wird sich außerdem ein QR-Code befinden, der die gleichen Informationen beinhaltet, wie auf dem Papier abgebildet ist. Das ist insofern praktisch, weil man die Infos entsprechend auch auf dem Smartphone hat.  Im Moment finde ich unter "Objekt > QR-Code generieren > Art: Visitenkarte" nur die Möglichkeit, die Daten einzeln manuell einzutragen. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, die Inhalte aus der Excel-Datei auch für den QR-Code zu verwenden bzw. gibt es auch hier die Funktion einer Automatisierung?Ich freue mich auf eine Rückmeldung und sage schon mal im Voraus: Danke!Viele GrüßeJannik

how do I convert a excel table to a indesign table?

I am confused because I have been using DIN Pro for years until today when I got a new computer (both PCs) and now all of a sudden DINPro and DIN Condensed (TT) are missing when I open InDesign files. When I go to Adobe Fonts to reactivate them, they cannot be found.  I guess if they were completely removed maybe? But they happen to be removed right at the time I got a new desktop? I don't think so. I haven't been able to find the right fonts to replace DINPro, any help is appreciated.

I have published online several documents that display pages with images and/ or videos. Suddenly they stopped working. The links don't load and when I try to re-publish them, and press update existing document it doesn't find my document. Even when I try to publish them online as a new link it stays at 99% and  never completes. Please help me with this issue since I am requested by clients to share documents with both photos & videos. I was working on a project in InDesign, and I needed to use the Type tool. I clicked on it and tried to create a text box on my artboard but nothing would appear. I tried this several times and nothing happened. I have never had this issue before. I read that it may be helpful to "trash" the preferences, so I tried the keyboard shortcut and nothing happened. Everything else appears to be working fine. I am new to this program and don't know anything about how to fix these things. I am currently working on manually indexing over 6,000 entries in a book that contains countless cross-references within the index. Since I'm doing this chronologically and many of the referenced entries don't exist yet, I have to manually type or paste the cross-reference entry. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that the editor who provided me with the file (a PDF with comments) occasionally made typos or omitted parts of the entry names. Is there a way to identify cross-references in the index where the corresponding entry doesn't exist?     <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi everyone!I had to create an EPUB file for an assignment.  My video and audio clips were successful in exporting, however, none of the images show, I just see a gray box similar to the fast display setting (I am viewing in iBooks).  It's a fixed layout, all of my images are linked and I haven't moved the files around.  I tried anchoring the images to text as I saw in other forums to try and fix the issue, but the images are still not showing.   Any help/thoughts are appreciated, I'm out of ideas! Adobe Indesign 19.4MacBookPro 2020macOS Sonoma 14.5   I want to publish my Portfolio with Indesign Publish online, but first some images showed as broken, then some others, now all images are show as broken. It doesn't matter if I change the image quality while publishing, or publish from a more stable and higher Internet Connection, nor when I publish from a folder on my computer instead of from Dropbox.I just cannot get the images to show. I've read all the fora contributions on the topic of images not showing when the document is published online, but none of it seems to solve my issue. Any help in any direction?

HelloIn Farsi-persian writing zwnj character (unicode) is vital. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-width_non-joiner). unfortunately If I use text variable like "running header" this character will be omited.   It will happen in any version of indesign however I use middle eastren version. zwnj is sessential character in persian and it is not possible to use another character (It os not optional It is mandatory). meanwhile If I export it to epub it will be omitted as well. and if I copy text with zwnj like (می‌خانه) and copy it on "numbering and section options it will be omitted as well. Thanks. 

I am sure it is really simple but the solution seems to be totally eluding me.....

Suddenly ALL of my InDesign files are like this.  Nothing is locked and nothing is on a master and thousands of my files I cannot select the object unless I hold down command.  I can't use my shortcuts.  i can right click things and get a menu.  They behave as though they are all locked but they aren't  

I have a large project where each chapter is a InDesign file and its "managed" in an InDesign book. Very standard book production. TOC of the whole book is easy. But how do I incorporate an overall index? I don't see an option. Like in the TOC setting it says "Include Book Documents". Thanks in advance!   <TItle renamed by MOD>

But I don't know how to change the dialog's title:SDKFolderChooser folderChooser;folderChooser.SetTitle("My title");folderChooser.ShowDialog();SetTitle don't replace the default title "Select a folder" ! I need to strip out all the words and use that for creating a new index.   How to I find ": and everything to the paragraph return" and replace it just the "paragraph return"? Hi! So I'm creating a report template that needs to be fully accessible in PDF form. I've been doing a bunch of research and there's two questions that I'm trying to wrap my head around.  1. How does the Articles panel reconcile a difference in the panel order vs. style hierarchy? For example, I have a text box that has text in this order: H2 > p > H3 > p and then a second text box that starts a new section with H1. I put the former text box into the Articles panel first, then the latter text box. Will this be read in the correct order, even though the second text box trumps the style hierarchy with H1? 2. Is it bad to have a lot of sections within the tags panel? (like the automaticall generated <sect> tags)My understanding is that each new "story" in InDesign generates a new <sect> tag. My document has a lot of separate stories. This is partly bc I'm setting up a template and I don't want to link all of the text boxes in the document bc I don't kno

Hi !I've been working on this all day and have been able to find only half an answer so I come here full of hope… ! 😃I have a table which I import from Excel. In this table I have empty cells sometimes and I want to put a "-" in them.I tried this grep request to find the empty spaces : (?<!.)$Which seems to work, it finds empty spaces in the format I searching when I press "Next"I tried to "replace" the empty spaces using : $0-Which, oddly enough, works when I press "Replace" but doesn't when I press "Replace all"Here is my problem then, how can I make it work all at once ? Since I don't want to replace them all at once… ^^''Thanks in advance !

I have a large word document that will only partially transfer into indesign. I have used the place method and shift double click. 20 of the over 100 hundred pages will come over but the rest will not and I cannot seem to figure out what the problem is.  Looking for help to resolve the issue. I recently got a new computer and am trying to edit some .indd files (via 2022). They open just fine, but when I double click a text box to edit the text, the caret doesnt appear. I am able to move text boxes around/select/delete/etc. but no caret appears to change the text. Any ideas?    <Title renamed by MOD>

I am working on a Mac, OS Sonoma 14.6.1, using InDesign 2024, and I'm getting an error that says I cannot open an indb file as a book. I just openned this file a couple of hours ago as a book. It is saved to my university's server, and I am accessing it via VPN. Any idea why this happens? I have saved the file locally as well to my desktop, and I get the same error message when I try to open that version of the file. 

Possibly a better fit for a Spark doc (if Spark still exists)   In my publish online (PoL) experiences,  - a PoL doc opens in a default size (either full width or height depending on the device) - a challenge to scroll - I don't see a Parallax setting, would this need to be an HTML insert from AE or a diff program?   Any other challenges / work-arounds / experience is appreciated!   I'm using InDesign cc 19.5   <Title renamed by MOD>
