Yes, but that is why LrC now has a "Rename Catalog" option in the File Menu, which makes it very easy to do. When using that function it will change all the associated catalog files/folders at the same time, and it also includes an option to rename the catalog folder name as well. ... View more

It is totally normal for Lightroom Classic catalog names. When Lightroom Classic upgrades the catalog to work with a newer version of Lightroom Classic, it does not rename the entire catalog; it just appends a number like -3, or -3-2, or something similar.  By @Sameer K   @Sameer K    That's no longer the case. Yes I am syncing to iCloud. Optimisation is enabled. Device is online and LR Sync was enaled (help told me to turn it off pending a resolution. I have not heard anytjing from them and they have closed my case saying the behaviour is 'expected' and nothing is wrong and it happends to every one who buys a new phone.     No, it doesn't happen to everyone who buys a new phone, it only happens with those who have iCloud for Photos enabled and with optimize Storage also enabled, AND have auto-import enabled in LrM.    The way it works in that scenario:   Take a picture using the phone's camera app. That is auto-added to LrM. But it is also uploaded to iCloud, and eventually iCloud will remove the original image from the camera roll and replace it with a down-sized version with a different filename. Because it's smaller and with a different name, LrM sees that down-sized version as a new file - which it is - and so auto-imports it. With a new phone, assuming the user has restored data from a backup of the previous phone. iCloud will populate the camera roll with a copy of the entire library which LrM will see as new photos and start to import them.   Personally, I keep iCloud for Photos disabled and I also advise other users to do the same (or keep LrM's auto-import turned off and do manual selective imports from the device). ... No, it's not a bug. I believe that the retention period has been reduced from 60 days to 30 days with the latest update. So images deleted prior to the update will still be operating under the previous 60 days period, images deleted since the update will now only be kept for 30 days. ... View more

That's fine. Except that takes extra steps to achieve. It would be wonderful if in a future release the Default level could be set by the user. When someone contributes images into a shared album (owned by you) they are tagged with the icon representing the avatar of the contributer. IIRC, there is no way to hide that icon, but the fact that you are seeing it does mean that you do have a copy of the original in your library, it's not a link to the original in the other account. ... If you're not using Lightroom Classic, then you must be using the Lightroom Desktop app. The local catalog for Lightroom Desktop is by default stored within the user's Pictures library on the main system drive, and that cannot be changed. However, any locally stored originals CAN be moved to an external drive, simply by changing the "Storage location for original files" at the bottom of the Preferences>Cache tab....use the "Browse" button to select a storage location on the external drive and Lightroom will automatically move any stored originals to the new location. ... I assume you're using the Local mode, yes?   In which case, I have tested it on my MBP M2 (i.e. applied edits and metadata to selected images, then renamed both the images and the associated XMP sidecars) and after restarting LrD in Local mode the edits and metadata were still there. The only failure was when I deliberately renamed one of the XMP sidecars incorrectly, after which that image reverted to the original unedited state. Correcting the XMP sidecar name then restores the edits and metadata back to the raw file.   Have you checked and re-checked that you have renamed the XMP sidecar files correctly?  ... View more

@szymon_5776    Have you considered using the Collaborative Proofing tool, which is available as a Technology Preview option in the LrWeb browser app? It would allow you to send a special link for the album to your director, who would then be able to select their preferred images (you can also optionally set a maximum number of selections that the end user can make). Once the selections are made, they appear back in the album's Collaborative Proofing view in your LrWeb app, where you can filter the selections by user and then you can make an album (for each user) of just their selections, which makes it easier to subsequently focus your work on just the selections.   Yes, you still can't apply ratings.....but in the specific use case that you outlined you might find the Collaborative Proofing option is even easier to use once you have familiarised yourself with the way it works. ... On first launch of LrC, initiating Compare mode shows one of two slightly different states:   1. The Select image has the Embedded Preview bezel, but not the Candidate image. If I click on the Candidate image the Embedded Preview bezel disappears from the Select image and does not return until the next launch of LrC.   2. Using a different catalog, first use of Compare mode after a restart shows the Embedded Preview on BOTH images. Clicking on the Candidate image removes the Embedded Preview bezel from the Select image, then clicking back on the Select image removes the Embedded Preview bezel from the Candidate image. To rule out a problem with the CR3 files, change the import type in the import dialog from "Copy to DNG" to "Add" (no need to proceed with the import, it's just a test to see if the files then appear in the centre grid). It won't be a problem once you have "contributed" all the images in the old account to the new account. Once that is done, the images exist in two separate cloud spaces and so the first account can be deleted by the school and that will have no impact on the images in your new account. ... View more

The "D" in front of the file name in Finder probably means that Topaz Denoise has been set as the default file association for that file type. This sort of things happens all the time when we install various programs, some of which silently change the default association. On my system I have a variety of default apps for different raw file extensions, e.g. CR2's default is Topaz Sharpen, CR3 is Photoshop, DNG is Preview, etc., none of them set by me. It's of no consequence when working within Lightroom Classic, it only matters if you attempt to open the file outside LrC by double-clicking in Finder, in which case the assigned default program will open. ...
