I can't edit the path keyframe

Hi friends, I am very new to after effects and I am trying to follow a tutorial. I am simply trying to do the action in 12:05 - 12:45 of this youtube video which is just to change the position and size of the shape in only the first keyframe in the "path" section. However, it doesn't work for me at all. The frame never remains selected and the desired effect is not occuring. I have attached a few second clip of what happens when I try.

I am doing exactly what the tutorial is doing and its not working. Also the I disappears when it's off screen while his still shows. What can I do to remedy these issues?
