I cannot activate my ebook or computer in order to license ebooks despite using ADE and having an Adobe ID

I bought an Ebook but I cannot activate my ebook or computer in order to license the bought ebooks . I get the message (in German): "Sie können diesen Computer nicht mit einer Adobe-ID autorisieren, die zuvor verwendet wurde, um andere Computer oder Mobilgeraäte zu autorisieren. Versuches sie es erneut". There are forums which say that  Adobe needs to reset some devices or increase the permissible amount of activations? Can Adobe this please do.

    Reset of activation not the cause of the error.

    Macintosh:

    1. quit Adobe Digital Editions.
    2. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
      If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later.
    3. Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

    Windows:

    1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
    2. Press Control+Shift+D to deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.
    3. Select Erase Authorization.
    4. Click OK and quit Adobe Digital Editions.
