Please, someone help me. I have tried to follow instructions in a couple of other posts for creating a bulleted list that uses checkmarks instead of bullets, and nothing has worked so far. I tried using u2713 for a "checkmark" style the paragraph designer, but the "bullet" shows up as a question mark, no matter what font use. I also tried setting up a character style that uses Wingdings but that didn't work either. It's possible (okay, probable) that there are some simple instructions out there, and I'm just not finding them. If someone can post a link, that would be immensely helpful. I've spent about 30 minutes on this already and am getting nowhere. Thanks!

BMP graphics imported into files created in an older version of FrameMaker are not displayed in FM 17.0.5.725. What should I do?

How do I get Framemaker to remember the text I enter into a particular heading row of a particular table style? What I want to do is click insert table, select the table style of choice, and have the table pop in with certain information already populated to the cells. Anyone? 

Hi,An error says that I need to fix a cyclical loop before I can save the book as a pdf. Does anyone know what this might be. I've also noticed that everytime I try to update the book the program crashes. Thanks, Julianna

Adobe suggests us to use itsrules_override.xml when configuring the XTS file, but I found out the override doesn't take. I had to modify the rules directly on the itsrules.xml before FM would take the modifications. Do I missed a step?

I have multiple monitors and my Paragraph Designer (which also had other panels attached) disappears and cannot be pulled "off screen." How can I reclaim it? I tried system reboot, no change. 

Hi Dave,   I happen to have a minor issue related to creation date, too. I maintain two documents in different language, one being Japanese.  The creation date works perfectly in English font, but after I format the creation date with Japanese font it lost the string month. What should I do to have creation date prints out the month in Japanese? In EN font, the date would be April 2011. But here in JP font, it becomes simply '4 2011'   Regards, Andy

I'm having two issues with conditional text that I have not been able to find explanations for in these discussions or in the FM user guide. 1. I have used conditional tags to hide content but the content still appears in the table of contents. Specifically, I have figures with conditional tags that I want to hide for a specific version of the document. However, when I hide the figure with the conditional tag, the figure is still listed in the table of contents/list of figures. The same issue happens with paragraphs hidden in the document still being listed in the table of contents. Are there ways to keep the hidden content from showing up in the table of contents/list of figures?  2. A related issue I'm having is that when I hide a figure with conditional text (e.g., Figure 1.1), I would like for the remaining figure numbers in the document to shift to accommodate the hidden figure so that when I hide Figure 1.1, Figure 1.2 then becomes the new Figure 1.1. Is

I use unstrutured FM 2022 (17) with Windows 11 and was asked to programme some variant publishing automation into it.So I read some community articles, read about the FDK, theExtendScript Toolkit, and the FM DOM and about how to access the DOM via File > Script in FM. I installed all apps, but nothing is connected to anything else, or even not accessible (as the FDK which is installed but not available anywhere).They're all standalone apps with no hint of how to connect them and transfer data from A to B.And I found an "fdkinstallguide.pdf" from 02.2022 and also "fm-scripting-guide.pdf" from 09.2022. And the installation guide contains a download link that leads to error page, and  the giant guide with 1,000+ pages is also not helpful.I honestly do not know how and where to start anymore. Does anybody have a start-up link for me? Or can that issue only be solved by BUYING into a course offered by some Adobe Certified? Thanks very much in advance!

Hi, My Framemaker template has two para tags for numbered lists: NumberedListFirst (for the first step) (item 1)NumberListNext (for all succeeding steps).  (items 2-n)When I generate HTML using the Publish command, the numbering is not ccorrect in HTML.The first item in the list  is 1. The second item is also 1. The succeeding items are numbered properly, 2-n Also if there is more than one list on an HTML page, the results are even worse: The first item is 1. The second item n+1 (the next number after the last step in the first list).The succeeding items are numbered n+2, n+3, etc. Does anyone have any tips on how I can map these styles to make the numbers show correctly? We have used this template for a long time and no one has ever complained about the numbering in the HTML files so I think this is something new that I introduced. Does anyone have advice on how to map these styles so they are correct in HTML? I have many many numbered list

Hi, I recently upgraded to FrameMaker 2022 and had some problems (see this post). FM was struggling to pull in referenced images that were stored on our server. The solution was to put everything in Dropbox. FM is now able to pull the images, but whenever I try to update the book, it's saying it can't update because a lot of the files are locked. I know they aren't locked--I'm the sole FrameMaker user at our company and the files aren't even open. It will say that, for instance, Chapters 5 and 7 are locked. I'll go in and unlock them, run the Update Book, and then it will say that Chapters 3, 4, 8, and 10 are locked. I've gone into the file explorer and deleted the .LCK files manually, but new ones get created when I try to update the file again. I'll literally click Update Book and then watch as the .LCK files appear in my file list. No matter how many times I update the .LCK files, new ones pop up and I'm never able to complete a book update. I am wondering if the

The document has several text strings that would be easier to maintain/validate as variables. I was wondering if anyone found or created a script they'd be willing to share. I started this project in InDesign and have a script for that program, but it doesn't work in FrameMaker. Hi,I created a new book and added one file called FrontMatter.fm. That file has four Reference Pages (Reference, MasterPageMaps, TOC, and IX). The TOC Reference Page has the formatting (styles, tabs, leaaders, etc.) I would like the generated TOC to use, as shown below: I then use Insert > Create TOC to add a generated TOC to the book. In the Set Up Table Of Contents dialog I add the heading styles I want to use and click OK. In the Update Book dialog I leave the defaults and click Update.The generated TOC has 5 Reference Pages (Reference, MasterPageMaps, TOC, IX, and TOC1). The TOC Reference Page looks like the image above (as expected), but the TOC1 Reference Page looks like this: The TOC entries that are created on the Body page of the generated TOC are using the formatting from the TOC1 Reference Page (not the ones from the TOC Reference Page).At one point it was working correctly, so I figure I must have subsequently made some change to the FrontMatter.fm that is

i want to apply color to particular row but it doesn't work after clik on apply it set to white it happes for all colors. in other document it work fine 

I cannot find a current answer to this question. In any other program, it would be incredibly simple, and it APPEARS to be simple in FrameMaker, but it isn't.I put the cursor at an insertion point:And then I go to Insert/Page Break:Aaaaaand....Nothing happens. How do you insert a page break? I just want the figure text to be immediately below the image, and I can't make that happen either no matter how many gymnastics I do.  So my solution is to move the image to the next page! But FrameMaker won't do that either. Can anyone unlock this magical, mystical, mysterious locked box? So many things in FrameMaker seems to be only known and accessible to experts who charge you for the priviledge of unlocking them! 

Hi all, I finally upgraded to FrameMaker 2022, and it's incredibly slow. Pages take forever to load, and publishing a 70-page document took almost 20 minutes. Any action I try to take results in 10 or 20 seconds of waiting. There is clearly something wrong. Is there an FAQ/troubleshooting guide available for this? Has anyone else had this problem? UPDATE: We found a workaround by moving everything from the server to Dropbox. This is not ideal, but it's what we have to do. It is very frustrating that FrameMaker now seems unable to pull referenced images from a server.  That's kind of central to everything I do at my job!

I am struggling with the ”Save as PDF” function converting regular text into bold style.The weird thing is that this problem is only present in FrameMaker 2020 and later (currently using 17.0.5 on Win 11). Text is not converted into bold with the same process in FrameMaker 2019, which I used on my previous Win 10 work pc, where I also had FM 2022 installed, in order to troubleshoot on the same system with the same settings, fonts etc. However, since FM 2019 can't be installed on Windows 11 systems, I would like to get this working in FM 2022.Any ideas about how to fix the problem would be much appreciated.

I have had this problem several times, and the only way I've been able to solve it is in the Ancored Frame menu:and selecting "page." So here is a graphic with no caption on page 28, because for no reason, the caption has jumped to the next page. I've tried shrinking the graphic to the size of a pea, and there is PLENTY of space on the page for the caption, but it STILL jumps to the next page!And here is the caption on the next page:How do I fix this?  

I have a large set of ExtendScript scripts that I run on a large structured FrameMaker book. The scripts run fine with FrameMaker 2019, but some of the processing is incomplete in FrameMaker 2022 (17.0.3; I don't have client authorization to try 17.0.5 yet). For example, all cross-references are not resolved, and all custom master pages are not applied. It seems that FrameMaker doesn't "catch up" with all of the tasks that the scripts are doing. I tried putting some sleep methods in the script to allow FrameMaker to recompose pages, etc., but I don't think ExtendScript is asynchronous.   Is it possible to do asynchronous programming with the FDK? Hello, We have a new co-worker, technical writer, who is unable to add a hypertext annotation (Alert). Historically, I have used the steps below with success:1. Place the cursor on a clickable/editable text.2. Insert>Hypertext.3. Change Command drop down to “Alert”4. Type in any info/comment into the hyperlink window.5. Hit "Create" and a green T anchor tag shows up. When the new co-worker uses the same steps above, Framemaker does absolutely nothing once the “Create” button is pressed.  I am watching the co-worker's screen and no green/black T anchor tag shows up.  Nothing happens. To troubleshoot, I opened up the co-worker's FrameMaker file and tried the above procedure.  I was able to add a hypertext annotation (Alert).  The co-worker then tried another Framemaker file and was still unsuccessful with the above steps. I made sure the co-worker is in view mode, not lock mode. We tried changing co-worker's FrameMaker settings from st

For previous documents, there was a requirement for the document to end with Page X/(Y Blank). I have a script that @Russ Ward helped me with to accomplish this. The script:Goes through Pages 2 to the end of the document and removes any custom master pages.Checks the last page of the document and determines if it is odd or even. If it is odd, it applies an X/Y Blank Master page and updates the page numbers in the footer. The script works fine, but I have a new requirement to add a blank page after the X/Y Blank page. (A totally blank page, not an empty page with the header, footer, and page number.) So I need two things added to the script: If the doc ends on an odd page, I need to add the blank page. To do that, I thought I needed to add a paragraph at the end of the document, have it start that on an right-hand page, and set the page background to none. I added this code, but it doesn't seem to be working (doc is previously defined as app.ActiveDoc):  v
