Can’t save Illustrator 2022 .ai files, if there are any fonts in the file

This just started happening several days ago. If I start a new file and add any text boxes, Illustrator will fail to save as an .ai file. It will save as an .ai compatible PDF the first time, but not on subsequent iterations. Running Catalina on a late 2013 iMac. This started with second to latest version of Illus 2022, and was not fixed with yesterday's update. Illustrator 2022 also will not let you convert fonts to outlines. None of the previously suggested work arounds are working.

When updating: did you reset the preferences? Unfortunately this is often necessary. You might try and rename the preferences folder, since that can be undone.

Do you have any font management? If so, check if it is compatible and installed correctly.

Is "Save in background" in the preferences turned on? If so: turn it off.

Does Illustrator have full disk access?

Are all your fonts OK? 150% OK?

BTW, I may be a community beginner, but I've been working in Illustrator since the '90s.
