Questions

Im trying to use the AI features in Illustrator to create a wood grain effect but in single lines/strokes. It is doing a great job of generating the grains but they are all filled shapes (closed paths). There is a reason I need them as single lines but I can seem to get it to create lines and not shapes. Wondering if I am doing something wrong or the feature can only generate shapes at the moment?Thank you. 

So we're creating a plug-in that's going to work on both Photoshop and Illustrator and would like to have the same login experience on both. As part of that, we're accessing the unique user ID (GUID) that Adobe helpfully provides for us.  Unfortunately, we've found that the GUID accessible in UXP and Express is different from the GUID available in CEP via ExtendScript. The method in UXP to get the GUID, documented here, is this: let userId = require('uxp').userInfo.userId(); // Get the GUID of plugin user  The method in ExtendScript to get the GUID (available in both InDesign and Illustrator) is this: var GUID = app.userGUID; as documented in the property listing here.The GUIDs available in Express and UXP are the same, which is great, but they are different from the ExtendScript GUID available in Illustrator, which is not great. Does anyone know if there's a way to access the UXP/Express GUID in Illustrator, or vice versa? Thanks, Lawrence&

I'm opening files created a few versions ago.  I'm currently using v28 of AI.  When I open a file that had strokes with arrowheads a few wierd things happen.  One, the arrowhead is there, but doesn't show up in the strokes panel as having an arrowhead applied.  It shows as a simple line.  Two, if I add an arrowhead to the stroke they go crazy, pointing in different directions.  Is there a way to open older files, maybe version 24 and NOT lose the arrowheads?  My only workaround is deleting the line, redrawing it, and manually adding an arrowhead.  I have about 100 files that each have 4 to 10 stylized strokes (either a round dot or arrowhead attached.  Its a lot of manual work to fix; but more importantly, will this keep happening with every new version of Adobe Illustrator?  

How can I get Illustrator to open my Pantone color book? I have the book in my library, and Illustrator won't show it in the list of color books. I've tried deleting the color book file, putting a new file in the folder., restarting, etc. I even got the Pantone Connect extension, but don't even know if I have to turn on the extension, or what...

Why is a grid not coming up?

After exporting my AI-file to a PDF most of the used symbols have an interlaced background. Or sometimes the background is gone.I had to deal with this problem several times already.Is there any way to fix this?   

A função de criar prancheta clicando no objeto não esta funcionando mais.Sempre utilizei o recurso dessa forma: ( exemplo )Insiro um PNG de 10x14cm no arquivo, Seleciono a ferramenta prancheta, e clico nesse objeto de 10x14cm, logo, a prancheta é criada no tamanho do objeto. Agora a função não funciona mais, consigo criar a prancheta nova, clicando e arrastando, mas não "copiando" as dimensões do elemento.

This has been going on for a while. Randomly, there are days when the "select same ___" commands (keyboard and using the dropdown menu) don't work. I have an illustration with a bunch of items the same color and I try to select same fill color, nothing happens. I've tried restarting AI and it doesn't help. Current version of Mac OS and current version of AI, but it's been happening for months.  I tried other suggestions on the forum; looking for clipping masks etc. nothing is working. Can anyone help? For as long as I can remember, selecting multple files in the Links window and hiting relink causes illustrator to prompt you for a new file for each linked image slected. Now it only relinks one image, and disregards the rest of the selected files. This is a massive problem as I have templates with up to 50 artboards, which we change by linking new images. Doing it one by one is a massive waste of time.How do i get this functionality back?

Hi everyone, I often go out and take up to 300 photos of various things, and then collate them into a Powerpoint presentation, with 8 photos on each page, my watermark in the corner, and a caption at the bottom. When the images are in the hundreds, this can easily take hours and hours to finish a presentation. I have experimented with various softwares to find the fastest way and I have found cons to each, so I was hoping someone here might direct me to a better way of working? The main feature I am looking for is zoom to fill, as this would save a lot of time resizing images. The majority of them would not need amending if they by default fit the whole box without rotating to fit. - Powerpoint: Can create a template of 2x4 boxes (for images), right click to replace image for each, adjust photo to fit in frame depending on portrait or landscape image, can duplicate original template page, further customisation is possible and easy - Illustrator: Can have clipping masks w

This happens at various points during my design process, making it difficult to work efficiently.

How do I change the icon of an Illustrator file, when I save the file it appears with the icon of the original program but not with the icon of a saved Illustrator file, how do I fix it?

I work in a company where we constantly need to model projects for Heineken and its sub-brands. A few days ago, the brand updated its logo and I'm having problems. In Illustrator, I select the logo (vector) and remove the fill and add a black stroke and set a thickness for the stroke. After that, I select the logo and click on export selection (right mouse button, last option) and select .pdf and that's it. When I open the .pdf file, it's perfect! The problem is that when I import the .pdf into AutoCAD, the logo comes out broken and with my lines missing and with fill in some parts. Why do I do Illustrator > AutoCAD > Sketchup? When I export directly in .dwg and open it in Sketchup, the logo comes out with no details, all checkered, as if the number of segments was low.

Hi, Im trying to make a packaging visual using several teal hues, but when starting to color the panels, the teal setting projects a classic sky blue hue, not even close to teal or a cyan...is there something wrong with the settings that I can adjust to get the right color tomes for the project?Any suggestions are welcome, as soon as possible... 🙂Thanks!

Hallo,seit Februar 24 kann ich meine Dokumente in Illustrator nicht mehr öffnen. Alle Daten habe ich auf meinem Rechner gespeichert, nicht in einer Cloud. Trotzdem erhalte ich beim Versuch, die Daten in Illustrator zu öffnen, folgende Meldung: Der Vorgang kann nicht vollständig ausgeführt werden, weil ein unbekannter Fehler aufgetreten ist. (DFER) Hat jemand eine Ahnung, wie ich dieses Problem lösen könnte? In allen anderen Programmen der Creative Cloud kann ich meine Dokumente auch weiterhin öffnen, nur in Illustartor nicht.

Recently the ability to resize a text box in Adobe Illustrator has disappeared. I do not need to change the proportion and size of the text. I need to add more text to a text box and alter/resize the text box.  I've tried all the old tricks on the internet, but cannot find anything recent. Please help! I'm about to lose my mind over this change. This is why I do not like a web-based application that is updated all the time....things disappear with no warning or change locations with no bread crumb trail. Also don't like having to hit "E" to change things. Another feature that was changed overnight.

I select the text, choose "create outlines" and it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? 

Hey Guys, I have terrible performance with Illustrator, it keeps freezing, crashing and just being slow.When I try on desktop which is 8 years old it runs smoothly, what could be wrong?

Why am I losing it after moving it once??

I'm trying to get high-quality exports of some illustrations I'm working on, but when I export it messes all the colors up. I've attached both a screenshot (shows accurate colors) and an exported jpg (absolutely wrong) for two separate files. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? I didn't change any color settings or mess with any export stuff, and it's just WRONG. It's driving me nuts and no one else seems to be having this problem.
