Could you try opening one of the PNG files in Photoshop and resaving/exporting it as a 32-bit PNG with transparency?

There are different PNG formats, including PNG-8 and PNG-24, but I'd try 32-bit RGB with an alpha channel to ensure the transparency is preserved.

In Photoshop, use File > Export > Export As, choose PNG and ensure Transparency is enabled.

Then try placing the new file in InDesign using File > Place (Ctrl+D on Windows or Cmd+D on Mac).

In the PNG import settings, make sure **Use Transparency Information** is selected.

Also, try placing the image over a coloured rectangle to check whether the white background is actually part of the image.

Changing the blending mode to Lighten isn't really a solution, as it changes how the image interacts with everything underneath it.

If that doesn't work, could you share a sample PNG file so we can check how its transparency is saved?

(I think it might need to be PNG 8 or 24 though my memory is a bit spotty here)

Show Import Options will likely fix the problem. Consider preferring .PSD files for InDesign layout projects, and tend to work in RGB color model.

You don’t see the “Show Import Options” button at the bottom of the Place dialog?

I can’t post a screenshot as the forums malfunction and it’s impossible to include images anymore.

When placing the file check “Show import options” and then see that you set the background to transparent. Does that work?

i dont have those options , I just have the png setting where i can choose to use backround settings which are white backroud but in preview its shown as transparent, but as soon as i place it , it shows up with a white backround, the only thing that helped is to mess with opacity in properties and chage it from normal to lighten
