Hi everyone :)

I keep getting error notifcations on Indesign saying that my files are corrupted.

I have reset my pereferences but the problem persists.
I have also tried creating a new file and putting my images ect in there again.
Saving the file as an IDML doesn't work sadly, the program crashes every time I try.
I have tried making a copy of the file.
I have gotten error code 0 and 2.
I am working in Indesign  21.2 and Windows 11 (25H2)

How can i fix this, what caused it and how can I prevent it in the future?

All help is apreciated!

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for sharing the details and I am sorry that you experience this issue. Since this behavior matches a known Windows update–related issue, I’d recommend reviewing this community thread and checking the highlighted response shared there: https://community.adobe.com/questions-671/indesign-files-corrupted-and-unable-to-save-after-windows-11-update-kb5074109-january-2026-post-2-1546893?postid=1546893#post1546893

You may also find this Helpx article useful, as it covers Error 2 and crash issues during save operations and outlines recommended steps: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/error-2-or-crash-during-file-save-operations.html.

    Hello @Gweeeen @JuJuFri

I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Could you try installing KB5077181 from Windows Update and letting us know if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Gwen,

Many Windows 10/11 users have been suffering from file corruption problems owing to a faulty Windows Update patch in January 2026. Maybe this is your situation too?

Many of these Windows users are also OneDrive users, too. Is that the case with you?

You might try patching forward to the latest Microsoft Windows Update (KB5074105 or newer, such as (KB5077181). I would try this solution first.

Others say to roll back the update (KB5074109) that appears to be causing this in the first place.

This is a Microsoft Windows Update problem.

I’m having the same issue, and lost a lot of work already. I try reversing the Windows update, but is not an option for me. This needs to be fixed asap.
