P: Adobe Default for Leica M11 DNG Import applies Adobe Standard and not Adobe Color Profile

When importing Leica M11 DNG files using Adobe Default (as shown in the Preferences / Presets -- Global setting) Adobe Standard is applied as the Profile instead of Adobe Color.  When I create and specify a Preset which specifically uses Adobe Color as the Profile, Adobe Standard is still applied.  If I specify to use Camera Setting, then the embedded M11 profile is correctly applied.

As a work-around,  I can indeed force the Adobe Color profile to be applied if I specify it as the Apply During Import - Development Setting (right-hand panel when importing) and select under the Defaults presets - Adobe Color + Lens or similar.

This issue seems to mirror the challenges I was observing.  Regrettably, I have not revisited this issue in some time, so it is difficult for me to give any additional insight at this momemt.

@Rikk Flohr_Photography, this bug may be related to this previous one, which was fixed in LR 15.4:

See my previous post for a precise recipe.

I observe buggy behavior with LR 15.4.1 / Mac OS 26.4.1 using the sample file provided by @Sylvestor-CH:

1. Import the file:
https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/f5065bd9-a819-48cf-b5dd-755fd7330ede

Observe in Develop that Profile is Adobe Standard.

2. Do Metadata > Read Metadata From File, and observe that Profile is now Adobge Color, incosistent with the profile assigned on import (incorrect).

3. Remove the photo from the catalog and reimport it.

4. Click Reset and observe that Profile changes to Adobe Color rather than profile assigned at import, Adobe Standard (incorrect).

Lightroom Classic assigns Adobe Standard instead of Adobe Color to Leica M11-P DNG files

I can independently confirm this issue with DNG files from my Leica M11-P.

Description of the issue

When I import untouched Leica M11-P DNG files into Lightroom Classic, the profile “Adobe Standard” is automatically assigned instead of “Adobe Color”.

The Raw Defaults setting in Lightroom Classic is set to “Adobe Default”. No development preset is selected under “Apply During Import”.

The issue occurs only with files from the Leica M11-P. RAW files from my other cameras are imported correctly with the “Adobe Color” profile.

System information

Lightroom Classic version: 15.4.1

Camera Raw Version: 18.4

Operating system: Windows 11 25H2

Camera: Leica M11-P

Camera firmware: 2.6.1

File type: DNG

Example file: M1000240.DNG

Steps to reproduce

1. Set Raw Defaults under Preferences > Presets to “Adobe Default”.
2. Make sure that no development preset is selected under “Apply During Import”.
3. Copy a new and untouched DNG file directly from the Leica M11-P memory card.
4. Import the file into Lightroom Classic.
5. Open the image in the Develop module.
6. Check the profile selected in the Basic panel.

Expected result

Lightroom Classic should apply the “Adobe Color” profile, since Adobe Color is the standard Adobe profile for newly imported colour RAW files when Adobe Default is selected.

Actual result

Lightroom Classic applies “Adobe Standard”.

Troubleshooting already performed

I have verified that no import preset or development preset is active.

I have checked and reset the Lightroom Classic Raw Defaults.

I have tested the import in a new catalogue.

I have checked the Camera Raw defaults and the RawDefaults.xmp file.

The behaviour remains unchanged and occurs only with Leica M11-P DNG files.

DNG metadata

The example DNG contains the embedded Leica profile:

`PROFILE M11`

It also contains the Camera Raw default metadata:

`crd:CameraProfile="PROFILE M11"`

The DNG itself does not contain “Adobe Standard” or “Adobe Color” as an applied development profile. Lightroom Classic appears to assign “Adobe Standard” during the import process.

The original untouched DNG file is too large to attach directly. I have therefore uploaded it using a temporary SwissTransfer link:

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/f5065bd9-a819-48cf-b5dd-755fd7330ede

File name: M1000240.DNG
The link will expire on 20 August 2026. Please let me know if the file needs to be made available again.

The link is provided for Adobe staff and community experts to download the original file for testing and analysis.

Could Adobe please verify whether the embedded M11 profile information causes Lightroom Classic to fall back incorrectly to Adobe Standard instead of Adobe Color?

Please also consider moving or converting this thread into an official Lightroom Classic bug report if the issue can be reproduced.

@Like-a-Leica, I downloaded several sample Leica M11 DNGs from dpreview.com, and they all import with profile Adobe Color.

I recommend that you share a couple of sample DNGs showing the problem:

Then we can see if the issue occurs on other LR configurations and either figure out a solution or file a bug report.

Not sure this belongs under color management. It sounds more like a LrC/ACR issue. Which of these are you using - how are the files imported and how are they opened? What are the LrC/ACR version numbers?

I agree, this is more a raw file import issue.  I am using Lr 15.1.1.

I would be delighted to provide M11 raw (.dng) files, so that someone else could confirm and potentially resolve.

Thanks!  I’ve done just that.  It’s my first time here and I’m just a little lost.😄
