Question

Sometimes when using a mask all of the sliders will randomly change on their own even though it does not effect the image, when I move to the next photo and come back the sliders have reset to the way they originally were.

When I create a mask and edit sliders within the mask they will randomly all change on their own even though the changes aren’t actually being applied to the photo. When this happens, I can move the sliders but the changes so not apply to the image. To fix this I need to use the arrow keys to switch to a different image in my folder and when I return to the original image the sliders have returned and I can continue adjusting the sliders within the mask.

    Hi @AlexCulbreth

thanks for reporting this. From your description, it sounds like the actual mask edits are not being lost. Instead, the mask adjustment panel appears to become temporarily out of sync with the underlying edits. That's why the slider values appear to change on their own, even though the image itself doesn't change, and moving the sliders no longer has any effect.

The fact that switching to another image and then back restores the correct slider values suggests this may be a temporary UI refresh or synchronization issue rather than the edits themselves being modified.

As a few troubleshooting steps, could you please try the following?

    • Make sure you're running the latest version of the application.

    • Restart the application and see if the issue persists.

    • If you're using GPU acceleration, try temporarily disabling it in Preferences to see if the behavior changes.

    • Check whether this happens with all mask types or only specific ones (for example, Select Subject, Select Sky, or Brush masks).

    • See if the issue occurs with multiple catalogs/photos or only a particular image.

If the problem continues, could you let us know:

    • Which application you're using (Lightroom Classic or Lightroom Desktop)?

    • The application version.

    • Your operating system and version.

    • Whether you're able to reproduce the issue consistently, and if so, what steps trigger it.

    • Also, if possible, please share a small recording of the issue.

That information will help us investigate further.
