I can't get PS to export at 300ppi, all attempts come out at 72ppi

I have a file at 300 ppi, the project was set up as such, i checked the image size info... all correct at 300 ppi. I tried to export as png, returned the result to PS, checked the image size again, is now 72 ppi. I did the same saving as a jpeg, same result.

I googled a lot, found a suggestion that you need to uncheck the resample box in the image size panel in the original file then export to preserve the resolution. I did that and got the same result for both jpeg and png.

can anyone explain what is going on here and how I can export a png (preferable) or a jpeg and preserve the 300ppi resolution?

Much appreaciated

When you Save As you can choose PNG from the Format drop-down menu and lots of other digital formats.

Woah, I think i have chaps. Thanks !

Here's what i think the issue is. It's an image for redbubble print on demand, they are weird and want you to design in CMYK (as it's for print) but they ask you to convert to RGB to send to then (I have no idea why).

Derek.. I found the save as png option after I converted the psd to RGB and flattened it (not available for CMYK I'm guessing?) Thanks so much for making me look at why that wasn't working.

Test screen, Thanks also for the info on export being a WIP and for resolution info.

Honestly, this place is so great for support, If I ever know as much as you chaps about PS and AI I'll be sure and pass it on.

Thanks again,

Craig.

Update. I manage to get the jpeg to export as (apparently 300ppi) by checking the "all" for metadata in the save for web export . Doing the same for png still results in 72ppi. Another thing I notice was that the file size for jpeg at 300ppi was only marginally higher than at 72ppi so I'm theinking the resolution didn't change at all only the metadata. With png the file size almost doubled despite the apparent lack of change in resolution.

Additionally the jpeg file sizes are around  19mb while the png biggest was 5mb for the same image.

Needless to say I am as confused as all hell.

Follow what Test Screen states, re Save As.

Re file size, whatever the resolution (PPI) the size will be identical, whether it's 300PPI or 72PPI if you untick Resolution in Image Size.

Do not use Export. Despite its name it is only for web use. Use Save As for print use (that is, to keep resolution).

I switched to save for web and got the jpeg to display 300ppi (altho the file size implies nothing changed but the metadata)

When I looked at using "save as" there is no png option and although I don't need it for this image, if I need transparency I need a png.

any ideas (will try save as jpeg now)
