Pencil Pen for Photoshop on Ipad Air

Sometimes my pen  pencil doesn't work. My Ipad and Adobe program were bought last autumn and this summer. 

Also I am not really sure of how to adjust pencil and pencil for good work: Pressure  Angle Softness etc...

Where can I learn more about this tool and what can I do if it still doesn't function?
