Question

Screen turns off and back on after launching PhotoShop on MacBook Pro 16

Does anyone else experience this? Every time I launch the program my display will turn itself off and back on after a second or two. It seems like the GPU driver is crashing.

Doesn't happen with Illustrator or InDesign. I've also noticed that if I reboot and start the program it doesn't happen. But as soon as my laptop goes to sleep and is eventually woken back up, it starts happening again. Also worth noting, if I turn off GPU switching and keep the laptop running on the dedicated video card, it doesn't happen. So I assume it has something to do with graphics switching.

Thanks!

Experiencing the exact same issue, can confirm that when Automatic graphics switching is turned off it works again. Altough this is just a temporairly fix and i'd like to see it resloved.

I am experiencing this on my 16" MBP. It started with the previous update to Creative Cloud, the one that came before Photoshop 21.2.2.

Really disappointed that this latest update did not resolve the issue, I have had certain bugs in Camera RAW that I have lived with for a decade now. Hope it's not the care with this issue.

Check your Energy Saver under Apple System Preferences. Automatic switching should be checked off.

Yeah... it sounds like an issue with switching integrated graphics to discrete graphics which, of course, is supposed to be a clean hand-off (and usually is).  If that is the case, it's hard to know if it's a macOS update or Photoshop update or both that will resolve it.

Have you ever used gfxCardStatus?

I'm running version 2.3 under macOS Catalina 10.15.6 on an early 2013 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina.  It gives you a menu bar icon for quickly switching from Integrated Only, Discrete Only, and Dynamic Switching.

While I've had it installed for several years, I've been using recently to keep my MacBook Pro in Integrated Only.  Most of my applications that use the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M still run just fine, but some don't (namely, World of Warcraft).

Thanks for confirming that for me!

I actually exchanged my notebook and got a new one, still have the same problem. The specialists all thought it was a hardware issue. Oh well, hopefully an upcoming update addresses it.
