installed a trial for PSE 2020 Mac but editor won't load - Running Mojave

I have been Using PSE 2018 for a while.  It started to crash my Mac recently.  I had to run repairs, but apple told me to remove elemnets and re-install.  I did that, reinatalled Mojave but of course I don't have the original disc and I can't download it.

I figured I would try the newest version - I downloaded a free trial for Mac, but when I click to open up editor, it won't open.  No message or anything.  I have not upgraded to Catalina yet especially after reading that people are having issues with PSE 2020 and the new OS.  I am just out of luck now?  I don't want to use creative cloud and pay a monthly fee.
