Show Ruler - Want to set Acrobat XI to show ruler by default

I need help finding a way to show the ruler by default on all documents that I open in Adobe Acrobat XI Standard (11.0.23). 

When I go to Preferences>Units and Guides, there is no option for this even though I have seen that as the recommendation.  I know about ctrl+r, but find it disappointing that this requires repeated manual operation for software as complex (and expensive) as Adobe Acrobat.
