Why have my files disappeared? I still have the file name but no content

The system  no longer contains files I have created.  The file name exists but there is no content.  When I try to open, I am told the file no longer exists.  What have I done and is there any way I can get these files back?

Please be more specific.

When you say the system are you referring to a folder in the operating system? Which OS? and what directory path?

OR

Are you referring to the HOME tab in the Adobe Acrobat working space under "Recent", which is where most of the recent PDFs that you have worked with remain listed there?

I guess the latter,  I open the Adobe site and get a list of files but most seem to have disappeared, or at least I am told they are no longer available

I'm a bit  confused.

In your original post you said your file no longer appear in your system.

Which system?

And now you are saying in the Adobe site... what Adobe site are you referring to?

The Adobe Document Cloud?

The Adobe Creative Cloud?

In any case, I think what you're referring to the Recent view.

When Adobe Acrobat is opened, the most recent files are displayed in that section (or tab if you may) of the Adobe Acrobat working space.

If you don't mind, can you share a screenshot of what you're referring to?

I suspect, that if you were working on a particular file, and had it saved originally in a folder, when you manually move it somewhere else on Windows, the file name continues to appear listed in the Recent view of Adobe Acrobat.

However, the location (or symbolic link) that points to the file changes when you move it somewhere else. And Acrobat will throw thst message.
