We have context sensitive help links from our software to our help site. On William's site, it recommends to have the CSH URL from the software in the form www.helpsite.com/index.htm?rhcsh=1&rhmapno=10. However, I've found that www.helpsite.com/topic.htm?rhcsh=1&rhmapno=10 also works (replacing index.htm with topic.htm). Does anyone know of a reason NOT to use topic.htm in the URL? This method looks better to me as it reduces the number of redirects a user sees before the help topic is displayed, but maybe I'm missing something.I'm using HTML5 layouts in RH 2017.
Hi everyone,I researched the RoboHelp forum on this issue and found that the recommended way to add photos to RoboHelp is to insert them. I didn't know that, so I've been using Snagit to capture my images and then pasting them into RoboHelp. I know RoboHelp has an image capture feature, but out of habit, I stuck with Snagit.I have some questions:In many cases, I have image 106.gif and image 106.png, and these are two completely different images. Can someone tell me why these have the same number and also why one is .gif and one is .png? Many of my images appear in the Images folder in Project Manager, but many are outside of the Images folder in Project Manager. RoboHelp will not allow me to move the outlier images to the Images folder. Why?Is it possible to rename these images within Project Manager without messing something up? Or would you recommend I leave things as they are?Lastly, since it appears the recommended way to add images is to insert them, do you also recommend I use Rob
We are on the latest service pack.I follow the Help instructions to create a WebHelp skin:Right-click on Skins folder in Output Setup.Select Create Custom WebHelp skin.In WebHelp Skin Editor, make a minor change to the background color and click OK.Click Update View.Click OK.In Save As dialog box, enter name of this skin and the file name and click OK.Nothing appears in the Skins folder in RoboHelp or when I look in the folder in Windows Explorer. Is this feature broken for WebHelp in RH 2015 or is there something I'm missing here? Thanks.Carol Levine
RoboHelp HTMLRoboHelp 2017Is there a way to set RoboHelp so that any hyperlinks which appear in popups are disabled? Here is what I am doing...I created a straightforward topic Terms and Definitions. I link terms from one definition to other terms in the same file. For example, I have defined Trailer as a term, and I have defined Tractor as a term. Within the definition for Trailer, I refer to Tractor; within the definition for Tractor, I refer to Trailer. From within the Tractor definition, I have set the hyperlink to the Trailer definition to display that definition in a custom-sized popup of 400x300. These hyperlinks work just great, except for one thing: within the popup displaying the definition for Trailer, the hyperlink that refers to Tractor is hot. If I click that hyperlink, RoboHelp opens another popup within the current popup, but it is blank. What setting must I use to remove hyperlinks in popups? Or what settings am I missing to prevent nested popups? This is a sectio
Does anyone know how to display/add the image typically used to indicate that the link opens to an external site? I'm thinking of a square with an arrow coming out of the corner, or something like that. I'm concerned about spacing and sizing as the hyperlink is within a sentence. How can I get it just right?I'm currently using Webhelp w/RH11 and Responsive HTML w/RH2017thank you!
Hello All,I've been using RoboHelp 11 since 2014 after initially downloading the trial version and then buying a licence online. As such, I have never had an installation CD. The installation files were all downloaded in 2014.I have been allocated a new laptop and tried to install RoboHelp 11 on the new laptop. I used the original install files. However, the install throws up the following errors: When I open RoboHelp and try to edit an html file, the editor does not launch - obviously because RoboHelp has not been installed correctly/the install has unresolved errors. Would appreciate any advice on how to go about fixing this....Many thanks in advance!- Sophie
Hi,I'm authoring a help system in RH15. The output is Responsive HTML 5, and the help will be running on the latest versions of IE and Chrome in my company.I have a topic that's supposed to open in a new browser tab. I don't want the navigation pane to appear, and it doesn't, but a "Show" link appears in the upper-left corner of the window. Is there a way to remove that link from the topic so it doesn't appear on the page? I don't see any reference to it in the HTML code for the topic, and I haven't found a setting yet for this kind of thing. Any ideas? Thanks, as always!Tim HuddlestonCharlotte, NC
I wonder if it is possible for a normal user to get the information of te date that a Worddocoment is made and later on is transferred to a pdf file.
Hi guys,Just wanted to find out if people using RH2017 are experiencing this problem (I'm on RH11, Multiscreen HTML5).Conditions: Output contains dropdowns with Twisties enabled, skin/screen layout includes Highlight Search Results checkbox.1. Search for a word that occurs inside a dropdown.2. Select the Highlight Search Results checkbox.3. Click the search results link for the topic with a dropdown. Can you confirm that the twisty image is not "twisting" when the dropdown is opened because of search highlighting? That is, it is still in the "closed" position, even though the dropdown text is displayed?e.g. In the image below:"Tip" shows a closed twisty image and the content is not displayed (search term is not in the dropdown text)."Entitlement" shows the closed twisty image, but the content is displayed because 'care' is highlighted from the search.I've quickly tested Multiscreen HTML5 and Webhelp in RH11 and see the same behaviour in both outputs. Many thanks
How do you import a Responsive HTML5 skin from another project? It doesn't appear to be in the same location as your usual .skn files, !SkinSubFolder!. In fact, I'm not sure where it lives - you access it and edit it from the Single Source Layout, which is really different. What file extension does it have? What folder is it under so I can use Import>Skins to add it to the project? (can we still do that??) Thanks much!
In previous versions, I used the WebHelp format to create online help for our web application (run through a browser). Now that we have upgraded to RoboHelp 2017, I am wondering if we should be using the Responsive HTML5 format instead. Our web application can be run on a tablet or phone, so I am wondering if the compatibility will be better using HTML5. Are there other reasons we should be using HTML5 versus WebHelp? Any input would be appreciated.

I'm using RH 2015 build 12.0.0.306 on Windows 10.The main window of the RH HTML main window seems to have a "magnetic" border, attracting the mouse cursor when the mouse is close to it. This creates problems for me when I'm authoring on a laptop with limited screen space. With several apps running along with RH, I'm often moving from one app to another as I capture screens, edit images, and edit in RH. With the magnetic border of the RH main window, it becomes difficult to put my mouse where I want it - outside of RH but near it's border. Is there any way to turn this magnetic border off?If not, I'd advocate strongly for it to be defeated in the next version. It hinders my workflow more often then it helps. Thanks for comments,Ben
Hello there,I have a Robohelp 2017 project with multiple FM projects linked to it. Recently, we decided to keep only the WebHelp output and do away with the PDF outputs. So, I need only RH as source. However, as it stands right now, there are hundreds of HTML files and images that are currently used in the RH project (imported from the linked FM files). Is there a way in which I can unlink the FM files and retain the HTML and image files that were generated as a result of the linked FM files; as well as retain the folder structure so I can add new HTML topics to the folders?Or do I have to create a new RH project and import all the files there? Kindly advise.
So I know that in RoboHelp, local/inline formatting will always override linked external (MyCSS) formatting. Suppose there's a project that has a consistent MyCSS applied to all topics, however, someone went into one of the topics and applied local formatting. Is there a way to locate where exactly within a project, or which topic, local formatting has been applied, and can local formatting be undone? Thank you.
Hello, how do I check which release year and version the RoboHelp I am using is? Where within RoboHelp do I go to find this? Thank you. I cannot find this anywhere.
I have used Robohelp for 24 years, and I've worked with virtually every version since then. So I speak with experience when I say that RH17 is acting weird.I import Word documents into Robohelp. These documents have Word styles applied to all the content. Typically, I slap the Robohelp style sheet onto the imported topic, and all is well - the Word styles map to the style sheet styles and assume their attributes in Robohelp. However, when I follow my time-honored steps in RH17, nothing works right. It appears as though RH17 is renaming my styles so they don't map to the style sheet. Then it picks random attributes (like replacing Verdana with Calibri and making the font size smaller) and applies them to the content. I have to manually go through the topic to reapply the correct styles from the Robohelp Styles pod.I tried clicking "Edit conversion settings for Word documents" in the Import dialog during the import process, and selected Automap Paragraph Styles > Select All to map to t
Responsive Layout HTML 5 output has to adjust the screen resolution and setting whereever the output is viewed ie. Desktop, Laptop, Tablet or Mobile. But I can view the output of Desktop only in 95% zoom of the computer, in 100% zoom in desktop shows the output in the below format:Desktop view: in 100% zoom: Its a bug, we need to fix it as like the second screen capture in 95 % zoom on desktop:We need solution for this since we cannot refer the User the browser type & fixed screen resolution,so I need my output should auto adjust to all screens and browsers, kindly fix me as early as possible, since I have been at the final phase of the project
I've never seen this in earlier versions. When I import a Word document, I'm used to having the new Robohelp topic show indentation on the left. In RH2017 there is no left margin at all, so I have to move all the content to the right. I can't find a setting, and don't know what to do in Word to make a margin stick. Thoughts?Message was edited by Peter Grainge to correct version.
Hi all,We have a custom button set up as a div. I can add the div to what would be the button text easily enough, but I can't find a way to link it without just going into the code. That is, it won't let me attach a hyperlink to a DIV.Is there some trick to this I'm not seeing? I could swear I've done this before...Thanks!Christian
Hi,When we generate a word document/output of a help system in RH 2017, there are instances where the formatting is disrupted for example dynamic text, bullets etc.Is there a way/trick where we can ensure that the output is exactly the way we see it in the browser help?Exception dynamic text, which will be shown as flat in the word output.
Hi,I'm using RH 2017, Azure_Blue layout.I have turned "off" the search field in the TOC pane, but kept the search field in the upper-right, header area. I do this so that search results display in the content pane. The right scroll-bar (content pane) does not appear when there are more search results that fit on one page, i.e., more than 7 or 8 results using IE 10. My display is set to 100%.As a test, I searched for a common word and it returned 545 results. Only 7.5 results display on the page - and no scroll bar, no "next page", nothing, at 100% zoom. When I zoom out to 50%, I see that 14 search results display....and at the end of that list it says "End of Search Results". This means that 531 search results are missing and unavailable.I have changed the size of my IE window, thinking a scroll bar will appear as the window changes, but it does not. The scroll bar DOES appear when the search results jump to the left of the screen (TOC pane) as
I'd like to add our logo as a splash page that appears for a few seconds each time online help is accessed by the user. I tried using the design-time controls, and the logo will appear fine when viewing just the page from within Robohelp. However, the splash does not appear when viewing the files outside of robohelp. I've searched Adobe.com and the only thing I can come up with is that splash screens work with Microsoft HTML help only. Is there a way to have a splash page? I saw the option of creating a redirect, but I didn't like the outcome.Thank you! Ellen
When I preview my settings, I see the TOC / Index / Search / Glossary icons in the preview & when I open in a browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE).When I compile and view my HTML5 output, there are no icons.Has anyone encountered this?I've triedopening an older project (A) and compiling with the same layout - the icons display for project A in the browsercopying the !ScreenLayout!\Charcoal_Grey folder from the A project folder to the 'troubled' project folder (Troubled) - the icons don't display after I compile the Troubled project and view in the browser.opening both projects in separate RoboHelp instances and comparing my settings - I don't see a difference.creating a brand-new project (Newbie) and compiling, the icons display for project Newbie in the browser. What else could I try?Message was edited by: Paul Hanson - added screenshot of what I see in the browser, after compiling - the red box is where the TOC / Index / Search / Glossary icons should be.
