I recently upgraded our documentation from RoboHelp 2010 to 2015. Some of the topics include scripts to open documents in a new browser window. After the upgrade those scripts no longer work. Here is a copy of one of the upgraded scripts, can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
RoboHelp 2015Hello.Newbie question. Need your advice.Product has a back office version and several mobile client versions. Each product version will have its own help system published on a separate website. Is it better to have one project per one product version or a single project for all product versions? Seems like having "one project per product version" is obviously better (no need to use conditional tags to separate content of one product version from another and to change output settings each time when publishing), but maybe I miss something... Maybe there are more pro's than con's of storing everything in a single project? Thanks in advance.
I'm sorry if this is a noob question but I've looked for a pre-existing answer with no luck. We've been using .CHM help thus far, but having upgraded many versions to RH2015 we are now looking at swapping to an HTML5 layout. I have generated an 'out of the box' Responsive HTML5 output which is very slick indeed. We don't want to show our help in a browser frame though, and as far as I have figured out the way to do this is via the Multiscreen variant? I've done nothing with this other than remove the phone and tablet layouts, other settings are Adobe default, and it runs s-o-o-o slow, it's unusable. Click index, wait five seconds. Try to move the window, wait another 5 seconds. What am I doing wrong?I also interrogated Adobe's help, and maybe I'm a little naïve about HTML5 but I found that rather unhelpful too. So any direct answers to this particular question, and/or where I can find an HTML layouts 101, greatly appreciated.
Up until today, I have never had any problem applying conditional build tags. Suddenly today, when I select a paragraph, right-click, and select Apply Conditional Build tags, RoboHelp crashes. I tried it from Format menu as well with the same result. If no paragraph is selected and I select Format > Apply Conditional Build Tags, the list is empty. If I select View > Pods > Conditional Build Tags, all my tags are there. I have tried this in several different help projects, all with the same result, so it's not project specific. This is a big problem that needs to be solved asap. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks,Natasha
I'm working on a moderately sized project (about 15 topics so far, 26 MB total). I've imported HTML files from Google Docs and I'm outputting as PDF. The first time I crashed was a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure what the problem was, but suddenly the screen was frozen, I'd get error dings when I tried to save or click on anything, yet the task manager said the software was running (not unresponsive). I chalked it up to having too many programs open at the same time or too many topics opened, and I learned to not do that when working on RoboHelp. I wondered if the problem was RAM, since the task manager said I had only a little free memory, but my boss got new RAM instead of more RAM.Yesterday I had the same problem, only I was just running a browser, Acrobat Pro, Outlook and Lync, and only had a few topics open in the project. I was copy and pasting tags in the HTML window both times I crashed (I crashed once an hour in the 2 hours I was working on RoboHelp).Details about my situati
We are software a software provider that is using the map ID's (for F1 help functionality) in RoboHelp 2015.I am trying to figure out what is going to be the best Layout to use , to avoid having each user check the security option "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer."Our software is a client/server distribution model, and the techs feel they are leaving the machines Vulnerable by checking this option.Does anyone know the best output to solve this ? Or a Way to get around it?Thank you,
Using RH10 to generate Webhelp output. This has worked fine for users running firefox, chrome and IE10 in an intranet environment. (RH10 has been updated with the IE10 fixes and the chrome fix - whproxy.js file). However, With the release of IE11 users have immediately reported that there are problems with the RH10 Webhelp output. I cannot provide specifics as yet but thought it worth posting so that other users have a "heads up" on potential problems caused by IE11, and hopefully RH techies can start to pinpoint problems and look at providing potential fixes. Will try to identify IE11 problems more specifically and provide further posts regarding issues.OK - Viewing WebHelp output in IE11 - Table of Contents has dissappeared, the icon is displayed on the tool bar but no TOC entries in the list; index - displays the keyword box but does nothing and no index list is displayed; search - search box will display and text can be entered but search does not appear to work. For users who choose
Hi,I have three content categories: user, installation and appendix, with some overlapping content which is controlled by the TOC and sometimes conditional tags. The appendix is a master list of all the preferences/settings mentioned in the user & installation, so the content in the appendix is 100% duplicated elsewhere, but not in the same order.I would like each of these categories to have its own browse sequence, down to the 4th TOC level, matching the TOC structure. I've tried a few different ways, including auto create using TOC and selected 4th level. The issue I have is that I can only create ONE browse sequence this way. I can't add additional browse sequences. It's not useful for the users to scroll up and down book levels, and not be able to scroll within them.It is not realistic for me to manually create browse sequences for each category - not to mention (but I will) the maintenance required each time a file is added to my forever gro
Hello everybody...When generation the output of a multiscreen-html5 project, I find in the output folder a sub folder for each screen profile - so far so good.As a sub folder within the screen profile folders there is a folder called template. Inside this folder there are folders for each Layout that is used in the whole project... I've expected to find there just a folder for the choosen screen layout and not for each existing layout. Can I delete the "unused" folders with screen layouts? Thanks for your supportStefan
Hi All,The Web-help output (Non-Flash Mode) is not opening in Mozilla Firefox. Please help to resolve the same.
Is there a way to generate an AIR help file that does not require the user to install the runtime? I googled and saw once that there is evidently an option to provide the runtime environment in the app itself (sort of like an integrated viewer file). However I don't know whether this was a standard function of AIR apps or just a hand-coded workaround.
RoboHelp HTML Version 6 I create a project. I add topics using Word as my editor. I add tables to the topics. All of them are specified as being 7.6" wide (740 or 760 pixels when viewed on a screen, perfect for 800x600). Also, when I print with a 0.45" margin on each side, 7.6" is the perfect width for printed documentation. I spend 3 months creating this project with 150 pages of printable documentation. I go to export to either .DOC or .PDF and get the same results either way: Around 50% of my tables have been shrunk to 6" wide. The other tables are still at 7.6" wide. I call in to Adobe technical support and explain this. They try to replicate the issue and are able to replicate it. They don't have an answer right away but agree it should not be acting like this. The rep and I phone and e-mail each other for a few days. I eventually end up talking to another rep who also cannot provide an answer. It is escalated to her supervisor, who tells me he also does not have an answer, but
Hi all:We have a project with hundreds of images. On occasion, we've experienced an image file seeming to be associated with a topic that actually does not have any reference to that image. Nor has it ever had a reference. When we want to delete that image, we have to delete and re-add the ghosted topic. Although this is not a critical problem, it has been happening more often, which leads me to think that RH is choking on the number of images we are trying to manage in the project. So, the question I have is how does RH track the images. I've not found any database mentioned via Google. I am also not finding any system file that is touched when we modify an image filename. It almost seems as though RH is building the relationship between the topic and images each time the project opens - perhaps storing those in the CPD file. Does anyone know if this is the case? Seems inefficient. Anyway, I'd like to know so I might have some sort of method to debug the cause of the mis-attachm
I tried generating an existing CHM SSL after about 9 months of inactivity. It didn't work and RH10 gave me the message that HTML Help Compiler is not installed and that I need to go download 1.4. I already have HTML Help installed but I downloaded it from microsoft anyway and tried to install the latest version (1.3). The installer said I already have a new version installed on my laptop. So, Windows says I already have HTML Help installed, but RH says the compiler isn't installed. Any ideas?
I have my RoboHelp files in source control. Our admin recently made a copy of my help topics and placed them in a different folder in TFS. Now when I create webhelp or compiled MS HTML help, the user defined variables show up as being undefined in the help. When I view them in RoboHelp they look fine, as they do in the viewer. It's just when the help is built that those variables are somehow lost. Is there some required file that perhaps did not make the move in the source control? I backed up my earlier files and those work fine.
RoboHelp 2015 integrated with (for me) Visual Studio Source Control (TFS) 2010 and (for the other writer) Source Control 2013.I edited Topic A yesterday and checked it in. This morning my colleague told me that she had it checked out at the same time and didn't know how I managed to edit it. Source Control detected the conflict and she checked in her version and then made my changes.I don't see any way to enable/disable multiple check-outs in the RH 2015 Source Control settings, and I can't see what the settings are in TFS 2010 or 2013 because I'm not an admin (I've asked for help from the TFS administrator). Do we need to disable multiple checkouts somewhere in RoboHelp 2015? If so, where? Are there any known multiple check-out issues when opening RH2015 projects from within Source Control 2010 or 2013?Thanks for any assistance.Carol Levine
I bought & download elements 14 for win but need it for Mac. I Need refund and buy the one for mac. Please help
I had a problem with red X's through my topics after upgrading from 9 to 11, i was fixing them by hand until I found a tool some genius made which did it all for me. But ever since then I have duplicate topcis in the HTML version, not in the CHM version. I did search and received some information on how to solve it but neither have worked.I have renamed the CPD file and reopened project and I have deleted the HTML single source layout and create a new one, neither of these worked for me.There was one post where the author said to check tools>reports>topic properties and see if there are duplicates which I DO have but he never expanded on what to do if that is the case. Clearly there are two .css files one in the root and the other in the sop folder. How do I solve this? Thanks!
Hi all,With PDF review, the instructions state that you should avoid updating the project after creating the PDF.Does anyone know if it really is the whole project that shouldn't be touched, or is it safe to work on the topics that haven't been sent for review?
I need to download robohelp 11 again due to a HD reformat. I have the license key. do you know the safe link to it?
Hello! In printed documentation headings with Heading 1 style are not included into TOC. TOC is started at the Heading 2 level. As I found out it is a problem with installed RoboHelp 11. The same Robohelp project creates TOC correclty on another computer. Is there any other ideas except reinstall software?Thank you in advance,Ira
We recently upgraded from RoboHelp 9 to RoboHelp 2015 because version "next" of our server product must support multiple browsers. We have a very large Help file that gets called by the server application. It rendered properly on the server when we built the project with RH9. After upgrading to RH2015, I made a couple of changes to two topics and rebuilt the help. The Help displays fine on my local system. When the help output folder was added to the server build, the result was a blank page with the activity indicator spinning in the browser tab. QA used IE-F12 Developer Tools to get the debug message: "Error: Object doesn't support property or method "registerListener2." We have no idea what is causing this issue, but it has forced us to go back to RH 9 until we can resolve it. I cannot send the Help project for you to look at , although I can send you a jpg of the error msg, the whproxy.js file, and our stylesheet (if that could be involved). I noticed the whproxy.js file for
Whilst looking at the generated index from my WebHelp output I have found that the sub-keywords have not been indented to the right as was laid out in my index pod on the RoboHelp project page.Below is a sample of the Index I originally created:Below is the generated WebHelp Index, notice there is no indentation at all:Is there away I can show the indentations in my generated index? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have only very recently started using RoboHelp so my apologies if this appears to be a simple fix!Stuart
When I first generated an output (Responsive HTML5), one the files was a Chrome HTML Document which shows the fully complete and functioning front end of my project. However I have recently made some changes to my project (cosmetic and as well as content wise) and can't seem to generate this file type again.Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,Stuart
Hello,I have a problem with generating CHM through command prompt. As the topic title says, when I generate a CHM with RHCL.exe, all the topics/text that have conditional tags applied do not appear in the output. The problem occurs only with the command line RoboHelp, and CHM generation through GUI works just fine. I also tried doing the same thing with a sample project and the problem persisted. So it looks like RHCL simply removes ALL conditionalized content, regardless of the conditional build expression set.I use Windows 8.1 and Robohelp 2015. Previously, I had Robohelp 10 and never had such a problem with it.Currently, as a workaround solution, I have to generate the CHM files manually, which is very troublesome, because CHM generation is only a small part of our automated doc publishing process. To me it looks like an obvious bug. Did anybody else face this problem? Thanks in advance.Update:Searching on fourms brought me to this topic, which apparently has the same root cause: .CHM
