Hello, I am trying to time lapse a video and then play it backwards in After-Effects, but it won't play. Is there any fix to this?
Thank you very much!

What is your workflow? I have done this a lot in the past with no problems. The easiest way is to apply time remapping and then use the keyframe assistant to time reverse the keyframes. This works with any kind of footage. If you have created the timelapse by sequencing stills then you need to pre-compose or just move everything back to frame zero and reverse the selection order of the layers before you use the keyframe assistant to sequence the images. I never use the Time Reverse function. It takes 10 times as long to render as time remapping and there is no control on speed.
I never use the Time Reverse function from the Layer>Time menu. It takes 10 times as long to render as time remapping and there is no control on speed.
I have to admit that I have not used CC 2018 for reversing playback yet. If using the Keyframe Assistant to Time Reverse keyframes doesn't work then let us know and file a bug.

Please us know the value of time stretch your using. I took a video in AE and added a time stretch factor of 10% & than choose the Time-Reserve Layer from the layer menu. It preview the cached fames in real time without any issue. I am using AE 2018 version on Mac OS X High Sierra 10.13

Just ran into the same issue... I have a single layer with a bunch of subtract masks eliminating any animations falling off the edges of the content. I just sleected: Time-reverse layer. I had added a few masks and animated the mask paths, and upon previewing got the same error.
SOLVED: What worked for me was simply selecting time-reverse layer again, playing forward, cache it a bit, and then selected time-reverse layer a third time; I was able to perform a successful RAM prev.
Hope this helps anyone in the future who receives this error.

I have the same issue now.
I wanted to create a gif. Just imported a clip into after effects. I cut it, made a copy and reversed the directin of the clip. First it worked (why shouldn't it? lol).
Now though, I cut the SAME clip abit shorter. Instead of cutting the already reversed clip, I thought it would be faster to coy the now ew cut clip and reverse it again than. But well... I had this error pop up: The disc-cache can't preview negative timeframed clips. soemthing like that (my AE is german).
Now I did not do anything diffrent than the first time, even the clip was the same.
Please fix this since I don't think the mistake was made on my side.

So I just restarted my After Effects. Now it works fine.

After Effects error: Cached Preview of negative time stretched layers is not supported.
Using After Effects 2023, why is this an issue still??
