After Effects 2025 Crashing on Launch – Tried Multiple Fixes, Need Help!

Hi everyone,

I’m having a persistent issue with Adobe After Effects 2025 where it crashes immediately on launch. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  1. Reinstalled After Effects multiple times.

  2. Used Adobe Cleaner Tool to remove all Adobe software and reinstalled.

  3. Deleted all third-party plugins I had installed.

  4. Checked the "Required" folder for unusual files (found secret.aep and Calder.plugin, which I moved out temporarily, but no luck).

  5. Repaired disk permissions and reset folder permissions via Terminal.

The last log message I see is:

AppDiPs><5>Required Dir = /Applications/Adobe After Effects 2025/Adobe After Effects 2025.app/Contents/Required

 

I’m not sure what else to try. Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggestions for further troubleshooting?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As a test, are you able to install After Effects Beta or After Effects 2024 and launch without issue?

I do have avast antivirus installed!
I did already try the safe mode launch but it still crashed.

Hi @David.Arbor ,

The 2024 AE version doesn't work either.
Someone told me to maybe reboot my mac all together.
Feels like the last move.
What do you think?

If by reboot, people were suggesting you reformat your machine, then yes, I believe there are other steps to try first.

If they simply meant restarting your machine, then that's definitely important to try if you haven't already.

 

Can you try creating a new user account as a test to see if AE will launch there? Also, to reiterate Warren's question, what version of macOS are you on and can you update?
