I have done some 3D text but bevel alpha dont work. I have precomposed the textlayer. I also have problem when changing from 2D to 3D, the textstyle changes a lot. I am making som basic error, I know.

Show us comparative screenshots of what is happening where. Could be as trivial as not using collapsed transformations, but then again anything else could be going on just as well.

Thanx,
I have tried collapsed trans. but it does not help.
I have done a text with some nice radial blurr and a lightsource with a null object and pointlight. This works fine but then to make the text more readable I tried to duplicate the text and move this to the top and apply bevel alpha
but nothing happens. I have tried to do this very simple with just text, with 2D its fine but I can not do bevel alpha after I turn it into 3D. I have pre-composed the 2D and tried to pre-compose the 3D before applying the bevel alpha as well as not pre-composing the 3D but something very basic is wrong. Is there a help tutorial on 3D text including bevel alpha?

It looks like this now, letters are not very readable but lighting is good.

Expand your text layer and you should have a Material Options section. Is it set to Accept Lights? If this is on and you don't have any lights pointed to it, then the text will be in darkness. You could either turn this to off or point a light at it. Either way, this should then let you see the bevel effect you add - as right now, its in complete darkness

You're in Draft 3D, which is a limited preview mode that may not give the correct impression of the final result as it effectively simplifies shading and disables a bunch of things. That would be the first thing to fix. Even so, AE does not have any real backlighting, so in order to even see anything you still need to at least add a subtle parallel light or such to the comp to make the 3D-ishness of the text work. That may also be part of the problem with your Bevel Alpha, as that uses belnding mode trickery and may simply not show up on certain color combinations. Though technically it may be there, the underlying math eradicates all visible pixels produced by the effects. Otherwise I#m still not exactly clear where and how you actually apply the effect, but try these things first. Also for argument's sake switch the viewer to actually preview transparency/ the Alpha channel only. You may also be messing up that part with your fancy light rays somehow and the bevel may be applied to the full frame as an outline border instead of the actual Alpha edges.

Thanx,
When I duplicate the textlayer and pre compose it and set it to screen I can do bevel alpha but then it does separates from the rest and does not rotate or move when I rotate the rest of the composition. So this is a step in the right direction but again something very basic seems wrong. I need to learn more about layers.
I can toggle the draft3D on and off and I dont think its in draft in the picture?

the text was beveled in the geometry and this seemed to make bevel alpha impossible, its fixed now. I have anither problem, I want to change the blending mode for this textlayer to screen but the option is no longer available. This is some simple problem again, thanx for your patience.
