Accessing Convert Vertex tool from Selection tool?

I don't think I'm losing my mind here...When editing motion paths, let's say you want to break the bezier handles of a keyframe. Didn't you used to be able to hold down Command (or maybe it was Command+Option?) to temporarily access the Convert Vertex tool, whereupon you could just click on the bezier handle and drag to convert from a "smooth" keyframe to a "corner" keyframe? This morning, with the newly-installed AE 17.5, this no longer works.

Holding just Command does the trick on a drawn bezier path, but not on a motion path.

Hi galen@bigfott.com ,

You're not going crazy. There's a bug in After Effects 17.5 where the new camera tools are a little overzealous in overriding the behavior of other tools when you hold the Option/Alt key. There's a workaround and we're working on a fix, more information here:

Maybe this will help:

The pen tool (g) with Alt/Option and Ctrl/Cmnd as modifier keys and the selection tool (v) when the Position Property selected are the tools you should use to successfully modify motion paths in the Project Panel or any other motion path like anchor point in the Layer Panel. If you don't have the property selected in the timeline and you don't pay attention to the changes in the pointer (cursor), you will have trouble.

Hi Community,

I noticed that this post was getting traffic due to a recent issue with After Effects v. 18.1 and the Selection tool with the shortcut to select it, "V." If this is your issue, not this issue from October 2020, see the following recommendations.

Thanks,
Kevin
