Add Formatting menu and Font Controls Missing in Essential Graphics Panel

The following is stated here Create Motion Graphics templates with Essential Graphics panel :

Create groups of controls

You can group controls in the Essential Graphics panel for better navigation and to reduce clutter. This is particularly helpful when you add long lists of editable controls or the master properties of nested compositions to the panel.

To create a group, click the Add Formatting menu in the lower-left corner of the Essential Graphics panel, then select Add Group.

To add a control to a group, drag it over the group name.

Font controls

When you add a text layer to the Essential Graphics panel, you can modify and control the font family, font style, size, and faux styles of that layer in a Motion Graphics template. Use the following steps to add font property controls to the panel:

1. Add the Source Text property of a text layer to the Essential Graphics panel.

2. Click Edit Properties option on the right side of the control row.

3. Select the font properties to control from the following options:

  • Enable Custom Font Selection - Adds the Font Family and Font Style controls.
  • Enable Font Size Adjustment - Adds the Font Size control.
  • Enable Faux Styles - Adds Faux Bold, Faux Italic, All Caps, and Small Caps controls.

I would love to use the group controls and add font controls features but I don't see the "Add Formatting" menu or "Edit Properties" option in the Essential Graphics panel. Am I missing something? I'm on latest version of AE CC(15.1.2). If these features do not exist it would be nice if they did. Or at least removed from the user guide.

The latest version of AE is CC16. All the features you've stated in your post do exist and many users have been using them productively.

I have the same problem, I have the latest update. I learned about MOGRTs from the Adobe Max convention and was excited to use them in my projects, only to discover my custom MOGRTS don't transfer over properly, the only thing that transfers is the text and there's no way to edit the verbiage and the animation is gone, which defeats the purpose of having a MOGRT. I've watched a series of videos on YouTube about using the Essential Graphics panel, only to discover on my After Effects, the Essential Graphics panel is severely dumbed down and is missing some key features that would allow me to do what I need to do.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought I was on the latest version but realized that since we are running on Windows 7 we can't update to AE v16. So we will have to change to Windows 10 to update AE.

As Roland KahlenbergSay's this new feature available from V16.0 also it's better to use the latest update 16.0.1 since adobe improve this, and if you looking to use this on premiere pro so you need to use the latest premiere pro release CC2019 V13.0.2
