Advanced kinetic typography effects

I am familiar with the basics of After Effects but these two pieces absolutely stunned me, and I have no idea how the artist was able to do these effects efficiently. If anyone has any help it would be much appreciated. I have provided to example links, but the effects that specifically intrigued me I have labeled prior to the link. Thank you!

Both of these:

can be done in After Effects using 3rd party solutions like Element 3D. They are just text layers used as textures on 3D shapes. 

It would be very difficult to recreate this kind of motion using 3D text layers following curved 3D motion paths.
