Advice for mapping a 2d texture to a surface?

Hi,

I'm making a short video for which I filmed a static shot of a surface and I was hoping to map a 2D texture to a particular spot (just right to the comp). Unfortunately I'm having trouble as no matter what I do the texture doesn't line up with the surface and the angle looks off. I'm fairly new to AE and the tracker doesn't seem to be recognizing the right surface so I've been confined to using the (now obsolete) Basic 3D effect. You can see I have a rectangular placeholder/marker on the surface to make it easier. I'm using AE CC 2017.

Any help would be appreciated as I just can't seem to map the comp to the surface without it looking phony or like it's "hovering".

Thanks,

Dan.

Hi Dan. Your information is a bit confusing: is it a static shot with no camera movement (you mention using tracking)? If it is static have a look at the Corner Pin Effect.
